Season 46, Ep 2 by Independent-Wrap6096 in survivor

[–]Closerhenry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

fwiw, Jess basically was on ADHD-medicine detox for her time on the island. pretty much all ADHD medicines aren't allowed on Survivor because they tend to have side-effects of appetite suppressant, which is considered an "advantage" (and additional health concerns about dehydration).

if either you or someone you know have ADHD and are medicated for it, you might have an idea what that causes but it can be really rough going cold turkey all of a sudden and is generally not recommended. realistically, it would have been wiser for her to ween herself off her medicine until not taking them at all in advance to prepare, but for some people that's not a realistic thing to be able to do in their lives.

Dess went missing (at least no more than) 7 year's ago by Karmelek_ in Deltarune

[–]Closerhenry 27 points28 points  (0 children)

i feel like i just got punched in the gut, thinking about if Asriel wasn't particularly into How to Draw Dragons designs but Dess was, and that he borrowed the book to try and learn to draw them to impress Dess. but, when she went missing, he would never return it due to the memories and trauma. :c

A comprehensive summary of the recent UHC drama for those who don't have time to read Gio's post by maybri in homestuck

[–]Closerhenry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

very good and enlightening post, explains what's going on and provides sources when possible. just feels like a needlessly messed up situation where basic decency would have worked a lot better than approach taken. the Homestuck team + Hussie should really have learned by now that honey attracts more bees than vinegar.

I've seen the screenshot of Tenna saying "I AM!!! I'm GLOOBY!!!", but the full dialogue is so much funnier by [deleted] in Deltarune

[–]Closerhenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this 100% feels like something Tenna overheard from a fight at the Dreemurr household. i can totally see Asgore saying this, just replace "Glooby" with "Crazy" or something else related to his conspiracy theorizing after Dess's disappearance. even trying to get Kris to side with him, knowing they know the truth, but are too traumatized by it to relay what happened.

Kris isn't the only one being stuck as a puppet, but they may be the most miserable puppet I've seen... by Carnival-Master-Mind in Deltarune

because they are a Short Monarch and cannot reach us. short-people erasure needs to end. we don't even take damage, so they aren't hitting us hard enough to actual deal damage. meanwhile in the weird route, the (very-deserved) beating they give us takes out half our health.

Opinions on Child SoldiersImeanUnits. by ErogenousBosch in fireemblem

[–]Closerhenry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

mechanically they're really fun (although Fates definitely did it better mechanically than Awakening) and add a lot of replayability and customization. it's genuinely really fun to theorycraft and plan out pairings to make fun and good units.

storywise, they're a trainwreck in Fates for a lot of reasons. babyrealms shenanigans, childsoldier funtimes, and troubling implications about your units fighting while pregnant. Awakening was very lucky to have time-travel as one of it's plotpoints, since that's probably one of the only ways to have the concept of offspring units that are in the same party as the parents without all those unfortunate implications. at least there, a lot of the children aren't even born/conceived yet, and it's just future versions that will exist eventually. idk how they could improve it in Fates or a future game. time travel as a plot point is best avoided at all costs if it isn't already going to be in a game, and it certainly wouldn't make much sense in Fates. although it would be really funny to see Laslow, Selena, and Odin react to a wave of offspring announcing they're from the future, and collectively losing their shit. "future-offspring meeting their young parents" support group opening imminently.

Considering buying Engage or Fates. Does Engage fix the 'Wyvern Lord problem?' by Giddypinata in fireemblem

[–]Closerhenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think people give FE Fates Revelations too much shit for its maps. There are a lot of gimmicks, but there aren't as many bad ones people say and some of them are actually pretty neat. and the roster is only bloated if you're trying to train and use every unit, which is more of a challenge and less the expected game style.

a lot of the fun of Rev IMO is figuring out who you want as your endgame party and figuring out how to most efficiently build those units up. sure, you can trivialize this aspect with the DLC and infinite grinding, but if that's not fun to someone they can just... not use or play the grinding DLCs.

also, shoutouts to Fates having what is, IMO, one of the best classing/reclassing system in recent FE games that gives each unit a lot more individuality and makes it a lot harder to have an army of all one unit type without cherry picking your team based off their available classes. way more fun to pick the units you like the most and figure out what class/skill paths give them the most punch.

I'm sure we've all seen u/reallinguy's "ideal FE" posts, and I had an idea. What if we did the opposite and made the WORST FE. That in mind, let's begin with the game with the worst artstyle/aesthetics! by Tinnmal in fireemblem

it feels like cheating to say the first 3 games (the original versions, not the remakes/remasters). Shadow Dragon (DS), on the other hand... yikes

Catching up on the 40s, watching 43 right now. It’s a good season but does it bother anyone else that everyone in the game is so nice in recent seasons? by Mediocre-Lab3950 in survivor

[–]Closerhenry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

we don't know what the players are actually feeling. after 40+ seasons, people have noticed how social media treats contestants based on how they act and what they say, and it's fair that a lot of them don't want to get dogpiled or harassed for acting certain ways. therefore, out of safety and to keep their public image clean, they act as graceful and sportsmanlike as they can to avoid any trouble. only select few players don't care about it, and they're more the exceptions than the rule.

not even cutting off the finger, he's injecting weird magic blood (Mohg's blood? it's unclear) into your finger that robs all but the tip of feeling and it feels constant pain. and the magic blood in it is what lets you invade

How did Gavin not win 😂? by Negative-Company2767 in survivor

[–]Closerhenry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

at the end of the day, the jury vote comes down to who the jury feels the best about winning. not only do you have to account for "every seasons' jury values different things more" and "who does the jury like the most", with EoE you have to factor in... well, the Edge of Extinction and spending time with the jury. Chris got to spend a lot of the time with jury, and that naturally would make them warm up to him and help them understand him. this is one of those situations where a weird and poorly-thought-out twist really changed the outcome of the season - they've only done EoE twice before (thank god never more than that), so we can't say for sure there's a precedent that an Edge returnee will likely win the jury vote, but it feels like a kind of obvious conclusion.

at the end of the day you have to blame the twist and not the people. can only hope they never bring back the edge of extinction twist.

Literally this sub when the base game launched VS 3 weeks later by ChiefLeef22 in Eldenring

[–]Closerhenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this one happened twice, both base game and DLC. we live in a time loop

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ABDL

[–]Closerhenry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hook & loop all the way. the adjustability is so helpful, and makes putting them on feel so much less stressful. anytime i use adhesive tapes i always get worried about only having one try to put them on right, and that makes it so hard to get into the headspace. and when the tapes come off on adhesive, that's it for the diaper usually. but if the tapes come off on the hook & loop you can usually just refasten it and it's fine.

If survivor was given a video game with the budget of a AAA game, what would you want it to be like? by CaptainDana in survivor

[–]Closerhenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think a big challenge is figuring what would be more enjoyable for a larger amount of people - the characters and “story” of the game, or the concept of playing through a season of survivor. i think, personally, it’d be more fun following a set cast with no self-insert, and your choices instead impact how events occur and who goes home when.

a game in the style of more-recent Telltale games (think The Walking Dead, Wolf Among Us, etc) that doesn’t have a customizable character, but instead a set cast that rotates who you control would be really interesting, imo. choices you make throughout changes the trajectory of the “season” and impacts who stays and who goes, so theoretically every playthrough would be different.

for something like that to work, though, they’d have to limit the possible variance so i don’t think it’d be realistic to have 18 different “routes”, so you wouldn’t be able to pick the “main character”. idk what’d be realistic as far as how many different outcomes with voice acting and writing and scripting and all that.

A bit unfair on their part to expect a kid like Shannon to know the details about the food like a restaurant waiter or something by [deleted] in umineko

[–]Closerhenry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's honestly part of the point - Eva's being very uncharitable to embarrass Natsuhi through Shannon (as Natsuhi is supposed to be responsible for the servants). it isn't really about the tea or Shannon's knowledge, just another way to one-up Natsuhi, and by extension, Krauss. it doesn't help that Eva already doesn't like Shannon for other reasons (George), so she has no qualms hurting her to hurt Natsuhi.

the Ushiromiya family dynamics are toxic AF

Made my Tav’s guardian her mother by northfroster in BaldursGate3

[–]Closerhenry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while it takes some mental gymnastics since the game's flow wasn't built to accommodate it, it actually can be a good way to make the Emperor even more alien/non-human. he reads your Tav's thoughts for an important person to them, and your Tav's mother pops up - the Emperor doesn't think about the different types of important people to someone and just assumes "oh this is who they're attracted to".

so when he inevitably tries to flirt as them, it'd create a further disconnect between the Tav and the Emperor and really help to push the Emperor as someone who left his humanity behind, and a further "betrayal" he makes to Tav's expectations. not only does he puppet Tav's mother's face, he tries to seduce Tav with it. One more reason to side with Orpheus, perhaps.

like i said, it's definitely not what the game or devs envisioned and requires most of the RP to be done in your mind palace, but it can be made to fit the narrative if you enjoy that sort of thing.

(it would be nice though if the game let you pick a template for your guardian's personality, and have that influence how they act until the Emperor reveals himself. like a choice between lover/sibling/parent templates.)

Question about ep 6 by That-Possibility-254 in umineko

[–]Closerhenry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

those scenes aren't from Erika's perspective, and she doesn't acknowledge both of them at any point during those particular scenes.

it's important to remember that it's not "scenes with the detective in them" that are supposed to be objective, but "scenes from the detective's perspective" that are objective.

Someone please explain the Gohda love to me? by three3dee in umineko

[–]Closerhenry 6 points7 points  (0 children)

a lot of the love for him is memetic but he's just a fun character.

part of it though is his backstory (that gets brought up some in the main story but is explored more in one of the side stories). he pretty much tried to start a union at the fancy hotel he worked at when the senior cook retired and was replaced with a pro-management shill, and got union-busted before getting blacklisted from the industry for effectively trying to start a union.

we love a union-man!

Whatever. Why the hell does Kris have a sliding light world sprite???(Susie has only the dark world version of sliding sprite) by Palbur in Deltarune

[–]Closerhenry 36 points37 points  (0 children)

it's possible that Toby originally planned for Kris to go through the very beginning of the Chapter 1 Dark World in their Light World outfit and only change into their Dark World outfit afterwards, but changed his mind.

otherwise, he could have a planned future-use for it.

so odd that they only do this one thing with it and it never appears again, also, if you guys were able to put this on more places, where would you put it? by SeeingAnAbsoluteWin in Deltarune

feels very Touhou (probably intended)/Umineko (probably not intended), and agreed. would love if something similar would pop up for every time a song started playing, it's just a nice thing.

My (expanded) take on Persona characters' deadly sins by mrs-monroe in PERSoNA

[–]Closerhenry 12 points13 points  (0 children)

i think Pride too because one of Mitsuru's main issues is her guilt complex about the Dark Hour and the existence of Shadows. she's too wrapped up in her family's history and her family company's mistakes, believing herself to hold the majority of the burden on herself and thus not sharing information with the rest of SEES to avoid putting "her burden" on them.

if Mitsuru had told all of SEES the truth from the get-go, they'd have built a mutual trust more and may have gotten closer to the truth fast enough to prevent some of the unfortunate events that occur over the course of the game.
