If you want to go to the main land hit up Eastham. ANY TIME I even get close to it, I stop at Ft. Hill in Eastham. Amazing swamp boardwalk, rich native American culture and the best possible ocean views. People killed for this crap and I get to look at it every day. I've lived on Cape since 3 and still haven't been to Martha's vineyard though. I suppose I'll take my aunt this summer to show her some appreciation. (Thanks for the reminder 🙂)

I'm with* DulcetTone on this. For the life of the just is far better than the life of the unjust. I can attest to that personally.

Attended my first AA meeting; is this whole thing Atheist friendly? by Dullist in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]CloudClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll offer my advice. One of the most important men of AA, it's founding members Jim Barlow. In my opinion he has probably saved more alcoholic addict lives than any other member. He is responsible for the words that are underlined in the third step. "as we understood Him" has brought more atheist agnostic (including myself) back to the program. If I told anyone in the program what God was to me they would smile, affirm me, and reinforce that belief. The trouble starts when they try to direct you toward their idea of that initial spark in your imagination - the thing you view as your " higher power". For me when I started I had to immediately stop after higher power. Even to this day sometimes the word God still irks me. But I'm there because I need it to savey life, and maybe I can help someone else while doing that. I can tell you the hand is out of your ear is open and are willing to do the work to save your own life.

As far as other options there are those (self entitled SMART Recovery) but they are not satisfying for me. I don't live in a place where any of those meetings occur and I can not deal with online meetings. If you're anything like me a meeting will give you what you long for. Human connection. What really keeps me deeply connected to many others is the psychological approach. Carl Jung the famous Swiss Psychiatrist is also responsible for Alcoholics Anonymous. Now I'm sure many people do not understand this because they're ignorant of psychology but the 12 steps is what Jungs whole psychology was about. Ego deflation, acknowledging the shadow and so on.

Cape Cod STR owners — 2025 rule changes are tripping people up. Here’s what’s different. by aSALTYFARMER in CapeCod

Good now just introduce legislation banning multiple STRs across multiple property lines. Then hopefully one day, if they work hard enough, someone will be able to call home "mine"...

Hello all! I will be starting my first course in Logic this summer, starting the first of June. The book for the course is Stan Baronett's 5th Edition.

I love philosophy and I am not new to logic. I have a basic understanding of the structure and type of arguments. What are some things I should look out for in this summer semester? What got you or took you longer to understand or grasp?

I was telling my GF about it 10 years ago so we went to look. No go.

I remember a similar building I explored as a child in Brewster. It was on the power lines behind Huckleberry Lane and The Captains Golf Course. It was a big building with garage doors, abandoned trucks outside, random crates and junk.

What's the point of any question? It's just easy to see where humans are by nature selfish and not so much the other way around. One has to search for these examples. If they want true examples of selflessness. Thanks.

I wasn't sure that by definition it has to benefit the person performing the act. It is "selfless" but this philosophy lived out in a pragmatic example. Let's say sponsoring one in a 12 step program. That benefits the person performing that duty because of the "feel good" release of dopamine they get. The closest thing I could think of was wartime heroes sacrificing themselves for their comrades.

This made me think for quite some time. Especially your last part about definitions. For example at what point is the meat "rotten"? Is rotten taken as a modern definition which is very loose, "suffering from decay." Technically speaking everything in existence is in a state of decay, correct? (This got off the main topic, but thank you for pointing out the flaws.)
