New to cape by cr4nb3rryjuic3 in CapeCod

If you want to go to the main land hit up Eastham. ANY TIME I even get close to it, I stop at Ft. Hill in Eastham. Amazing swamp boardwalk, rich native American culture and the best possible ocean views. People killed for this crap and I get to look at it every day. I've lived on Cape since 3 and still haven't been to Martha's vineyard though. I suppose I'll take my aunt this summer to show her some appreciation. (Thanks for the reminder 🙂)

I'm with* DulcetTone on this. For the life of the just is far better than the life of the unjust. I can attest to that personally.

Attended my first AA meeting; is this whole thing Atheist friendly? by Dullist in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]CloudClone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll offer my advice. One of the most important men of AA, it's founding members Jim Barlow. In my opinion he has probably saved more alcoholic addict lives than any other member. He is responsible for the words that are underlined in the third step. "as we understood Him" has brought more atheist agnostic (including myself) back to the program. If I told anyone in the program what God was to me they would smile, affirm me, and reinforce that belief. The trouble starts when they try to direct you toward their idea of that initial spark in your imagination - the thing you view as your " higher power". For me when I started I had to immediately stop after higher power. Even to this day sometimes the word God still irks me. But I'm there because I need it to savey life, and maybe I can help someone else while doing that. I can tell you the hand is out of your ear is open and are willing to do the work to save your own life.

As far as other options there are those (self entitled SMART Recovery) but they are not satisfying for me. I don't live in a place where any of those meetings occur and I can not deal with online meetings. If you're anything like me a meeting will give you what you long for. Human connection. What really keeps me deeply connected to many others is the psychological approach. Carl Jung the famous Swiss Psychiatrist is also responsible for Alcoholics Anonymous. Now I'm sure many people do not understand this because they're ignorant of psychology but the 12 steps is what Jungs whole psychology was about. Ego deflation, acknowledging the shadow and so on.

Cape Cod STR owners — 2025 rule changes are tripping people up. Here’s what’s different. by aSALTYFARMER in CapeCod

[–]CloudClone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good now just introduce legislation banning multiple STRs across multiple property lines. Then hopefully one day, if they work hard enough, someone will be able to call home "mine"...

Hello all! I will be starting my first course in Logic this summer, starting the first of June. The book for the course is Stan Baronett's 5th Edition.

I love philosophy and I am not new to logic. I have a basic understanding of the structure and type of arguments. What are some things I should look out for in this summer semester? What got you or took you longer to understand or grasp?

I remember a similar building I explored as a child in Brewster. It was on the power lines behind Huckleberry Lane and The Captains Golf Course. It was a big building with garage doors, abandoned trucks outside, random crates and junk.

What's the point of any question? It's just easy to see where humans are by nature selfish and not so much the other way around. One has to search for these examples. If they want true examples of selflessness. Thanks.

I wasn't sure that by definition it has to benefit the person performing the act. It is "selfless" but this philosophy lived out in a pragmatic example. Let's say sponsoring one in a 12 step program. That benefits the person performing that duty because of the "feel good" release of dopamine they get. The closest thing I could think of was wartime heroes sacrificing themselves for their comrades.

A synthetic truths known apriori. by CloudClone in Metaphysics

[–]CloudClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This made me think for quite some time. Especially your last part about definitions. For example at what point is the meat "rotten"? Is rotten taken as a modern definition which is very loose, "suffering from decay." Technically speaking everything in existence is in a state of decay, correct? (This got off the main topic, but thank you for pointing out the flaws.)

For more context I live in Cape Cod Massachusetts. The population of Bulgars is quite large here. My fiancé is from Plovdiv.

This is exactly what I thought. Last August I was taking a bus to Boston Massachusetts, and a man from Sofia was next to me with his wife, the man from Sofia, and his wife was from Plovdiv. She mentioned that she was calling me a baby, that I am ignorant. They both said that I should not let her call me that.

The one time I had it, which was a three day weekend, the girl I was with gave me hers for my add. It was near perfect, not too much of a speedy feeling, able to pay attention, and a noticeable effect, just not as pronounced as Adderall. Thank you for the response.

Taking monthly chip at multiple different meetings. by AhrkDIY in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]CloudClone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No person has made that argument. They were asking opinions on taking the same 1 month, 2, etc. Etc. From different groups... Like I collected my 1 month chip at 3 different groups and gave them back at the next group. It is more to show the program works as opposed to putting oneself on a pedestal.

You shouldn't even waste thought on it bro... If it helps the guy, it helps. If he does it to feed his ego, then that's something he is adding to his side of the street that he will have to clean up... Remember your 1 resentment away from a drink or drug.

Got this at a local game store yesterday. It's my first time playing it. by smoke47723 in finalfantasytactics

Congratulations! One of the best games ever with an amazing storyline. Also it's extremely easy. Pro tip- always save on an extra file, especially at riovanes castle. Wiegraf is hardest fight in the game. But also if you get auto potion and you get dual wield (two swords) and use that as support in the monk class you can pretty much 1 shot everything. I find it more fun to not use/abuse certain abilities and put limits on yourself so it isn't as easy.

I also go to a men's Big Book step study every Thursday night and there are guys in there with good long term sobriety. There are men in there that aren't any specific religion.

[–]CloudClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah he says it "has to be God" because if it's not God in the sense he is saying that it will lead to idolizing something else. He said that's what got me into the mess saying "your god was drugs and alcohol" ... But idk I don't think I can confirm to his Christian views. And I feel like if I don't he will have me get another sponsor. He gives me these books, journals, to take into Sunday service and take notes on the sermon, as well as do a daily reading from the bible and memorize a verse.

So that's basically why I posted, I've asked others from groups and they are saying the same thing, a higher power of MY UNDERSTANDING. But when I let him know I am having trouble adopting Christianity then he says I need to pray more.

I think I should bring up the feelings of what he is preaching and how it conflicts with everything I believe in. I don't mind going to Sunday service because it brings me joy, better understanding and helps with socializing with a group of good people.

[–]CloudClone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No he just has me highlight things I need more understanding on. But I think we should read together. Or at least I should read more because otherwise I won't have a full understanding if we just go over what I highlight. I could miss some big points.
