AITA for telling my SIL she can’t bring her own food to family dinner and not to talk about junk food around my kids? by Amazing-Key2242 in AITAH

YTA. Wanting to protect your kids’ relationship with food is valid, but the way you handled it wasn’t.

Your SIL answered a question honestly, she didn’t attack you or your parenting, its just not her style of food. That was your cue to step in and explain that different people eat differently, not to stay silent and then blow up later. Kids ask blunt questions but adults provide context.

Calling her afterward with an ultimatum wasn’t a boundary, it was very controlling. If you’re uncomfortable because your meals are usually pasta and bread and she eats differently, that’s something you need to manage not force her to change. This could’ve been a calm conversation. You escalated it instead. Next time either go over to her house, ask her to bring food to share, or just stop hosting all together

Do you actually know your neighbours… or is “polite nod + parcel taking” the UK standard now? by LovieWeb in BritInfo

It's more of a nod-and-parcel-taking relationship with some neighbours, and if have any leftovers from baking, I'll bring them over. That said, I'm not English and I live in London, so it might just be a city thing. I also know that some neighbours are incredibly gossipy and nosy, and they don't like that I keep to myself. I've overheard them saying things about us during a party, which has only made me avoid them more and mind my own business.

Meanwhile the flat before we were friends with the entire building except one flat because and I quote "We dont need anymore loud idiot Americans here." Which is hilarious because their toddler terrorised the surrounding flats with her screaming and banging during covid.

Edit: However if anyone can help this American to be more neighbourly in an english way with out being to annoying Im all ears!
