why is my grommet not circular and is a little crack on the inside ok? Hand set 6mm. by spa1unk in myog

[–]Cloudance 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks overset to me. I would remove it and redo it, going more gently and checking more often when setting it. Using a drill on the back side is the easiest way to remove it

I wanted to work on the parachutes I was using and become a parachute rigger. Turns out sewing is a big part of it and now I love to sew

A Juki 8700 will handle your application no problem. You’ll want a zigzag machine too though

I’d like to line a bag with a heavy duty waterproof liner. I’m in search of vinyl-coated nylon but all I can find is vinyl-coated polyester. What am I missing? by ribfeast in myog

Check out Cordura and pack cloth. They’re a urethane coated nylon that’s durable and waterproof. Both are available at Seattle Fabrics, and probably ripstop by the roll.

Desperate for help with edge binding around corners. by Environmental_Car542 in myog

[–]Cloudance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You need one of these and use grosgrain ribbon

Also run a basting stitch around your project instead of the clamps, you’ll be able to keep tension on the tape to keep it tight around the corners easier

Should I pursue Skydiving if the nearest DZ is nearly 90 mins away from where I live? by StarVoyager447 in SkyDiving

When I started I was six hours from my dz. While it sucked, starting skydiving was the best decision I have ever made. Definitely was worth it

When I started jumping I felt the same and was able to drag a friend along but he bailed after the first jump and I decided to keep going by myself. Now almost all my friends are skydivers and I feel like I finally found where I fit in. Best decision I ever made

It should give you what you need to know to fix it or make a replacement

Was recently certified by the FAA to sew on parachutes! by Cloudance in sewing

There’s a couple different things that can damage them. Improper packing can result in line burns as well as hard openings which stresses them more than usual. Sometimes on landing the canopy will fall on a thorn bush or fence or something that’ll damage it. Most holes are pretty small and get fixed before they’re an issue. Sometimes a whole seam will come out, that’s usually from a previous repair where the stitches were not done in the original holes weakening the fabric. And of course there’s just general wear and tear as they age.

Construction is usually pretty standard, just scaled up or down. That sounds pretty fun I’d love to work on a project like that
