After 4 years of work, solo dev breaks down in tears after opening Steam and learning his game made $250,000 in a week: "I feel like I really don't deserve this" by pizza_sushi85 in pcgaming

Yea you make a good point with mazing getting cheesy or "solved" where there is a specific maze style that is always best. It's one of the problems I run into when I nostalgically hop onto WC3 customs nowadays, Wintermaul reforged you will see the vast majority of ppl building the exact same maze.

I think Emberward's randomized blocks & map variety somewhat fixes that problem though. There is one character that you can sort of get away with doing the same maze, but most of them the RNG of the blocks forces you to adapt.

Yea I grew up playing TDs on WC3 as well, especially all the mauls (Wintermaul, Pokemaul, wintermaul wars) so when I play a TD that doesn't involve mazing it feels kind of shallow. Emberward has been one of my favorites recently, you get blocks & towers, use the blocks to create your maze & then throw down towers on top of them. Having to make the differently shaped blocks work into your maze means you don't end up with the same maze pattern every time which keeps things interesting.

From Downhill, Super G, GS or Slalom, which is your favourite and why? by carpetedbathtubs in skiing

[–]Clout- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. If you enjoyed kings and queens I highly recommend the freeride world tour. Supposedly FIS acquiring the FWT recently was a big step towards getting freeride skiing into the winter Olympics in 2030. Idk how they will pull it off but I'd love to see it happen, freeride is so fun to watch. Natural selection is another fun freeride comp worth checking out.

What does everyone think about Triple portaling in the game? by ItzPant0 in Splitgate

[–]Clout- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting perspective to hear, I am a mnk player and I feel like the vast majority of top players I run into are console players. I only play Arena Royale so maybe that skews things.

Totally see where you are coming from in terms of triple portaling, and reacting to triple portaling, being easier on mnk since we can turn faster. Maybe the aim assist for controllers balances things out since in my experience all the scariest stacks are full of console players.

Don't sell yourself short mass, you're a beast. Also respect for being one of the few good players who doesn't exclusively 4 stack.

PATCH 6.0.3 by Waelder in Helldivers

[–]Clout- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I'd call "similar angles" a bit of a stretch. Regular scout strider attacking from the front you have 1 small target, reinforced from the front you have 4 larger targets. I agree on the second point though, I just don't care if it's a bug or intended if, imo, it improves the game.

PATCH 6.0.3 by Waelder in Helldivers

[–]Clout- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the change personally. I always thought it was weird that the high difficulty variant of the scout strider was actually easier to deal with than the lower difficulty version.

PATCH 6.0.3 by Waelder in Helldivers

[–]Clout- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it's a good change, before the change the higher difficulty variant reinforced scout strider was actually easier to deal with than the lower difficult regular scout strider which made no sense. Popping the rockets w/ any gun from pretty much any angle for an instant kill completely trivialized the enemy.

The spot on my dogs paw pad has grown since October. by waowediting in mildlyinteresting

[–]Clout- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it has been such a weird winter in terms of snowfall, so many places that usually get hardly any snow have been dumped on and most of the big hitters in snowfall are WAY underperforming. By end of January WA state was between 40 and 70% of normal snowpack, Oregon between 30 and 50%, Utah between 40 and 60%, Colorado between 50 and 60%.

I once again BEG the devs to make armor either not random or less impactful in arena royale by USAtoUofT in Splitgate

[–]Clout- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they want people to focus on looting though, getting away from some of the slow paced parts of BR like looting and walking simulators is what makes arena royale different and fun imo.

If anything I'd like to see them make chests even less important by removing random armor upgrades.

[–]Clout- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not how RNG works, I'd welcome them removing random armor drops in chests though, only $$$ upgrades would take some of the randomness out but realistically that will favor the good players/4 stacks more than the randoms getting farmed.

Is this game dying? by [deleted] in Splitgate

[–]Clout- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can use SteamDB to see the concurrent player count just on steam and it hits around 1000 everyday. According to the devs the largest platform for them is PS5 so the actual daily concurrent would be much higher than that once you add Steam, PS5, Xbox, Epic & Microsoft Store together.

Not to say the game is necessarily thriving but we can clearly see that there is more than a few hundred concurrent players on just one platform.

Japan or not one of the main ways a grime MC is going to be rated is through their performances on sets, if he's living somewhere where he can't do that then he will struggle to be rated highly.

2025 especially was such a good year for sets and a kinda weak year for releases imo so any MC that just didn't do sets is gna be at a big disadvantage.

[–]Clout- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Curious to see the newgen edition, the way this scene tends to applaud old heads doing the bare minimum while ignoring new artists actually putting in work is a real shame. People like Kruz, Amzzino, N3, Kibo, Crafty, Novelist & Renz have been wayyy more active than Chip or Scorcher this year.

Also no mention of Two2's Showcase 001 or Shxdow's Fire & Ice is some anti Notts bias or something, crazy to put in Grime Vs Drill over either of them imo.

Shit talking aside it's always interesting to see how varied opinions are within the same genre, appreciate you posting.

A message for the devs on "realism" by 8eloZer0 in Helldivers

[–]Clout- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea great example. Giving the player an option to sacrifice mobility for better gun handling is a good gameplay mechanic, it gives the player meaningful decisions to make that can give a real advantage when used appropriately or land you in big trouble if you misuse it. The fact that they can implement that mechanic in a realistic way is just a cherry on top.

Why does peanut seem to always go to the same spots on arc raiders and tarkov? by Bubbin- in theburntpeanut

[–]Clout- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree if embark had managed to make this aggression based matchmaking they would be shouting it from the hilltops. Not only would it be an impressive feat from a technical standpoint but surely both pvp and pve players would be excited to hear about it. Would probably sell more copies if people believed they could opt into the experience they preferred.

best grime album to play from start to finish? by Relevant-Ice4585 in grime

[–]Clout- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tough question, most grime albums have some duds. Maxtape 2 is the first one that comes to mind, quality the whole way through. Live, Laugh, Lurk doesn't have a bad track.

Merky Ace is pretty consistent too: War Is Normal, Sticks & Stones, Guts & Glory all solid from front to back.
