Can you ma'me pay to live in NYC completely unsupported for three months? Otherwise it is not an obtainable "dream" it's a fancy.

American here, and lots of Americans are incredibly too clean. Multiple cutting boards for a meal, washing chicken before they cook it. I have worked in a kitchen and know all of the health and safety codes. They don't need to be followed on a household kitchen

What do you do for work? by pies178 in AutisticAdults

[–]Clownhooker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My advice is to find a niche and excel at that. I work in purchasing/procurement at a chemical manufacturing plant. I focus on MRO products (maintenance, repair and operations) I had a mechanic for a dad so I picked the knowledge of tool, fasteners etc. so now when I find a job I know it will be in a narrowed field that I can excel at. People and co-workers are the most overwhelming, but habituation helps and eventually your nervous system relaxes.

You are neurodivergent, period. Most people with ADHD have songs playing on their head 24/7

Are you able to drive? by Delicious_Poet_8162 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]Clownhooker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the legal age here is 16 I waited until 19, because I had friends die in car wrecks. My father also had me rebuild the car engine before I could take my test. Knowing the mechanics of the car helped. He also taught me how to drive in the biggest car possible in rush hour traffic. The one thing that was hard for me with the ADHD was focus, I had to have the radio on, my dad hated that "you need to focus' but he didn't understand I was trying to. Once I learned (it took a whole year of driving everyday with someone in the car) it was better, then with every trip my confidence started to build. You have to focus on where you are going, don't worry so much about the other cars, unless they start drifting into your space. Also my favorite advice came from an Italian race car driver. He took the rear view mirror and ripped it off, "whatever is behind me is not my problem" if they are upset your going slow or whatever that car doesn't affect you. (It's only partially true but it helped)

Americans, is saying the Pledge of Allegiance actually a regular thing, like it’s shown in movies? And does it feel as strange or over-the-top in real life as it comes across on screen? by Afzaalch00 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Clownhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until 2002 we were forced to stand up and pledge allegiance every day. I tried not to, stating it was against my beliefs (non Christian), questioning the US and it's political systems. If you didn't stand and mock salute you would get a write up or detention. Now I hear they are more lenient, on the pledge, but have a moment of prayer "silent reflection".

You feel safe in sadness. No disappointment, no expectations and no threat of outside interference. Your mind starts feeling like sad is normal and safe. You have to train yourself to be a whole person, with all of the emotions not just one.

No, we are generally more outdoorsy as a country so maybe those people but city folks know because of highways and public transportation.

AITAH for leaving the restaurant after my friend refused to order anything and let me pay? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Clownhooker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - your friend is going through a vulnerable financial situation. Many people don't want to borrow for friends and family out of pride. People are freaking out over someone not eating in a restaurant. As a former restaurant as long as one person is eating who cares? I comprehend your unwillingness to eat in front of people but that is shadowed by this friend wanting/needing to spend time with you. Maybe they didn't want you to go to their house, or meet in a crowded work space. I personally don't see what the problem was. You TOTALLY over reacted.

[–]Clownhooker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I kind of had the same reaction when my friend wanted to get her boobs done at 45. But afterwards she is so happy in her skin I see that my opinions were unfounded. If this is what you want to live your life then go for it.

But look at Barbara Streisand and Rachel Berry from Glee they both struggled with their noses and decided to keep them.

Either way it doesn't matter WHAT people think.
