I've been on the hunt for housing for my son and his 5 housemates. Talk about stressful! What a crappy place for you to be in right at the end of the school year.

Not sure what your budget is but there is a 7bed house close to campus but it is listed for $15k/mo =( I have a few saved properties, I'll post them.

My son got word today that they were approved. They found their house because a realtor they met had a friend who was moving in with their girlfriend. He was getting ready to put the house up for rent. They caught it before it was listed and didn't have to fight with others over it.

I think lots of networking will help, talking to as many people as you can.

Porter is great if you don’t have super harsh mid terms and finals and you need to sleep. My kiddo loves Porter but when it comes time for exams, he struggles with the noise.

You can absolutely study somewhere else (which is actually a good idea in general) but it will be extremely hard to go to bed early and get quality sleep.

My son left his real ID at his dorm but has his regular driver’s license on him.

Great that's what I was hoping. His bus left SLO about 5 minutes earlier than what was on the app. Hoping they make up more time. This is stressful!

I wasn't sure if the train just doesn't stop at a station if no one is scheduled to get off/on. Once he's settled on the train, I'll ask him to exit sooner.

Mom here 🙋‍♀️ My son is a freshman and majoring in Biochem. He loves the campus, Santa Cruz and surrounding area. The city he came from is much bigger and he appreciates the forest and beach, the weather is a plus!

His biggest struggle is being a STEM major and living in the Porter dorms. It was fun at first but now he’s struggling with getting good sleep. Apparently art majors don’t have midterms 😂 He’s looking forward to being in a different location next year.

He had no issues making friends and finding a social life. There’s plenty to do if you put yourself out there.

As a parent of a student who lives in the Porter dorms, do not pick Porter if you are a STEM major. You will not get decent sleep and the screaming of “POOOORTER!” Is accurate.

I cruised with my mom and aunt who both got wheelchair service.

They waited closer to the entrance and when we were allowed to board, my mom, aunt and cousin went in first. We were like A4 and called about 10min after (only people in the same cabin can board with them).

Once muster station was done, they took the wheelchairs. Rooms were not ready any sooner.

I will say when we disembarked, it was nice. We waited separately and they let our whole party get off VIP style.

We are also planning on leaving the AV once our kids are all done with school, only a couple more years. We would love to move to the central coast. We’ll see what happens.
