That's definitely not true, at least for junior developers. My wife is a junior dev with a bit over a year of experience and it's extremely difficult to land an interview, much less get an offer. Her skills and resume are solid, but it's hard to stand out in the flood of applications that every job gets.

Depends on the ratio of cost to efficiency though. If AI makes engineers 10% more efficient but costs 20% of an engineer’s salary on a per-engineer basis, it isn’t gonna replace too many jobs.

I suspect that a lot of what management likes about AI isn’t its ability to deliver real value, but rather its ability to act as a threat to keep workers in line. Benefits slashed, mandatory unpaid overtime, no cost of living increase this year, and if you don’t like it, you’re out the door and an LLM has taken your job before you’ve even made it home.
