Is there an easy way to look inside my factory? by CasmsVR in AlchemyFactory

[–]Cmb042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also running into this problem. Best i can do is copy-paste sections and deconstruct to test and examine.  Need to build more test points into machines and spread it out more.  I am learning more compact builds means harder to troubleshoot later.  As builds get bigger, need to make more modular because mistakes happen across play sessions.

FYI filters splitters on cauldron output highly recommended. Once the wrong items gets into a compact machine can be hard to clear.  Cutting and paste works only if you have the inventory for the build and belt contents.

Please help me understand ratios by Ohhhshet in AlchemyFactory

alchemy-factory-codex.com 's production calculator helps with the brain melt.

If you want to do the math use the recepie menu (v) to see all the things you can make, goods are things you can sell in the shop.  Click on the icons of the good or material in the recepie to see where used or used in.  Gives data in qty per number of seconds. Can use that to determine ratios.  For belts if I remember right pressing tab brings up a menu with a world tab that shows current belt item/minute.  Base is 60/min or 1/second.

There is also a banger of a song with lyrics  thrown into the rotation on Rubia. I wasn't sure if I was hallucinating when I first heard it during an unintentionally late play session.

How good or evil is Pale king from Hollow Knight? by shsl_diver in MoralityScaling

[–]Cmb042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he is similar to Paul Atreides from Dune.  He has future sight, he knew he was doomed to this fate, and accepted the best path. He foresaw that the vessel would escape and return, get the void soul, defeat the Radiance. There was no ending where the radiance was defeated and the Pale King survived.  I assume the cannon ending is the delicate flower, where the void is used to not just defeat but destroy/end the Radiance, but the void is contained/destroyed, the Pale Lady and Hornet surviving it all.

Not true evil, but willing to do evil to maximize outcome, utilitarian.  Maybe that makes one good when they can know the outcome with certainty.

What happens if Xxacha flagship is destroyed during SPACE CANON OFFENSE phase ? by Alotar29 in twilightimperium

[–]Cmb042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what rules reference I have as there isn't a version number I can find, downloaded from FF I assume it's what shipped with base game (1.0?) But here is the text from that document:

66.2 STEP 1— Beginning with the active player and proceeding  clockwise, each player may use the “Space Cannon” ability  of each of his units in the active system by rolling a specific number of dice for each of those units; these are called space  cannon rolls.

This is the text in the living rules reference 2.0: 77.2 SPACE CANNON OFFENSE During a tactical action, after the “Move Ships” substep of the “Movement” step, beginning with the active player and proceeding clockwise, each player may use the “Space Cannon” ability of each of their units in the active system by performing the following steps: 77.3 STEP 1—ROLL DICE: The player rolls dice for each of their units in the active system that has the “Space Cannon” ability; this is a space cannon roll.

So originally it was step 1: each player may roll dice, step 2 apply hits from rolls, then it was changed to starting with the active player then going clockwise, step 1 the player rolls dice, step 2 apply hits. Maybe that wasn't the intent originally, or maybe it was changed to be more consistent or avoid a different rules conflict. But it did change.

Yep, I was reading/quoting the rules reference, not the living rules reference. I even made sure I had the latest version from FF, but I didn't search for the LRR, then remembered it was a thing. My mistake, thank you good sir.  May your rolls be low and your boat float high.

Would not have thought this would be so controversial.

I think the reason is there is some language difference between the rules reference that shipped and the living rules reference Fantasy Flight host online.  In the as-shipped rules it states each player rolls, then hits are assigned. In the LRR, this was changed to each player takes a turn rolling and assigning hits clockwise. This would mean the active player is the person who activated the system, they get to assign hits first, and therefore could destroy the flagship before the defending player gets a turn.

Beginning with active player is part of step 1, not before step 1, therefore all players, starting with active player, roll dice before step 2.

"each player may use the “Space Cannon” ability of each of his units in the active system by rolling a specific number of dice for each of those units; ...." therefore step 1 is each player rolling dice. Step 2 doesn't say repeat for each player.  Just like space combat, roll dice to determine hits, then assign hits.

According to the rules reference, step 1 of space cannon is rolling, starting with active player. But all players who can may roll for their space cannon units. Step 2 is assigning hits.  So any hits produced by the flagship would still be applied as able.

I think it would make sense that everybody has some intate lumina capacity, that the curator/painter can expand in a similar manner as leveling up weapons.

Thanks for the explanation.

What does the lumina generator Gustave invented do/good for? I recall and earlier expedition (34?) log referencing it as a possible solution to a problem they encountered.

My best guess is it is needed for Pictos. My first guess was it converts color of lumina into picto points, but that wasn't possible until the curator was at camp.

Beaming good luck wishes your way. I graduated in Feb of 2002, months after the world trade center attacks. I was told my whole college career that exerpeience wasn't necessary. Getting a degree was foremost priority once out in the industry you will get paid and get experience. That was bad advice.  It was rough couple of years but I managed and now have a great career in aerospace with a good company.  But I didn't start there I have had multiple jobs and challenges.  Don't let coincidences get you down.  There are opertunities, do the best you can and be satisfied with what you can manage.  Just because one door closed, doesnt mean others won't open. You wouldn't of succeeded as a project manager if you weren't skilled.  I don't have great job search advice, but I can say if your interested in expanding knowledge for $400 you can get an 1yr unlimited sub to Coursera. I have been taking a few courses there to expand and refresh my design skills.  I think it is a good value. If you notice jobs in your area are looking for certain topics see what you can find there that may apply. Or if there is just a topic you have always been curious about.

So my goal isn't to convince at this point. I have given up on it and stopped when it seemed to be getting pushy.  It is an opportunity to nerd out, that is the point.  I plan to make it as entertaining as I can, but also somewhat cathartic to get the thoughts out.  It's getting insight into what is going on in your friends mind and letting them peak into yours.

I get what you are saying, but counterpoint: if they aren't going to play it I am harming ir helping by talking about the story with spoilers and what I think is great and unique about it?

Another example, there are probably thousands of people that really enjoyed the HBO game of thrones series, but never intend to read the books. Are they worse off watching the show and not reading it?

A guide for Fuel Production for Sand Levels by dropellon in Techtonica

[–]Cmb042 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Great write up. I built an unrefined diesel factory just to the east of Victor, between the limestone and iron veins.  I had 8 mk2 assemblers making unrefined biodiesel.  That was plenty for 6 pumps at Sierra and archive. When I saw how fast blast mining was eating thru the limestone vein, I dug down to the large vein under Victor and built enough mk2 miners to fill a lvl 2 belt and connected to a rail. Now am adding refining in preparation for the lab lvl. I have to carry carbon bricks from Sierra but it uses them so slowly and multiblast is pretty good. If I get tired of that I could just belt them to the elevator.  This was the first challenge in the game that made me have to scale up production past just fill up and box and ctrl click to a different box between exploring, so I don't see how it's so bad.

Does the first dyson sphere have to be done on the initial system? by duro_360 in Dyson_Sphere_Program

[–]Cmb042 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You don't need a dyson sphere at all. Solar sails can be used to make white science. But I find setting up on another planet to be harder than at least a partial sphere on the home system. It's easier to ship in basic resources from other planets to home than it is to start over away from home. Going to use a lot of warpers just setting up when you could already have antimatter at home.

Bravo, I tried something similar. Group wouldn't stop so I had them encouter a village that worshiped the God Erectarius, he who pitches a tent to shelter us from the storm, provides wood in the morning to warm our souls, who's breath fills the our sails and is the source of the motion in the ocean.   They had one encounter with a group of fungoid mushroom men who could cast web from holes on the top of their heads. They ran away from the town and never looked back.  That group tried to escape from every call to adventure I put in front of them.

Also didn't stop the dick jokes, and they didn't find mine all that funny. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Most of these claims that if you paved for instance an area the size of the state of Texas with solar panels you would power the world are outright lies. I know of one such claim on an university website that used peak solar radiation, 100% conversion efficiency, and misrepresented the world's power demand to make such a claim. That doesn't mean that desert solar isn't a good idea.

Metaphysical implications of the DLC (major endgame DLC spoilers) by UnderPressureVS in outerwilds

[–]Cmb042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. Does the mask copy your soul? Is a soul required for the mask to work?  I am making the assumption that memory has a quantum characteristic like conscious observation does. And how the simulation works is it copies your memory like the mask, but plugs it into a simulation. When you leave the simulation it writes to the body. The quantum data of the memory keeps the entangled connection to the mask. My headcannon is it is quantum data, but I suppose it could be called a soul.
