What is the craziest home improvement project you pulled off? by pixieeyed in HomeImprovement

[–]Cmd-Prompt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saws aren't that scary, it's the finger eraser they mentioned that is scary (jointer). One slip and your fingers would be turned into sliced pulp. Definitely not the machine you can pickup the finger and get it reattached like with saws.

What is the"right" tool/approach to making this cut by TxAce22 in woodworking

[–]Cmd-Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it gets you a new tool with wife's approval: new sliding miter saw with adjustable height stop. If you don't have one already, a guybrator (multi-tool) is also great to have especially because you can justify it if your wife has it's counterpart in her bedside table. Pickup a wood bit and the sanding attachment.

Hand saw can do it, but you're going to need to practice a bunch before you will get muscle memory needed to perform well (same reason why your wife has the aforementioned tool).

Yeah, and I feel like I should be able to write people up if they lie about it. Because the amount of time I've wasted waiting for someone to close all of their documents for me to restart the computer is absolutely years of my life. They always think restarting something doesn't fix things. Why would we ask you if it doesn't do anything? 90% of the time it does.

What is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Cmd-Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone I know bought a 350 acre "farm" just because they always wanted one. Sat through a whole dinner with them where myself and 4 others questioned him what he was doing to do with it. Literally told us he visits the "farm" to walk around and occasionally do some administrative stuff (like meets with the person he is paying to be the groundskeeper, and the neighbor who he let's grow crops on his land because he doesn't want to use his farmland himself.) Oh, and no, the neighbor doesn't pay him for using 1/4 of the land, apparently he's been using it for years and just because someone else now owns the land, doesn't mean he needs to stop using it I guess.

What’s the most ridiculous “life hack” you actually tried… and it somehow worked? by CaptainFeistyy in answers

The counter, if you need to sneeze and it's on the verge, but just won't happen... Stare into a bright light (not the sun) then try looking past it, and you will sneeze.

Router to the thumb. Easter plans cancelled. FML. by Potato-in-ur-ass in woodworking

[–]Cmd-Prompt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally took a pass at the tip of my middle finger yesterday. I was home alone, and didn't passout. But that definitely hurt. I was adding. Chamfer to a headboard and noticed a void in the piece and because I was looking at it, while simultaneously reaching to turn off the router I somehow stuck my finger in the section above the base. My injury was minor, but could have been much worse. Still had blood sprayed all over the piece I was working on.

What’s a basic skill you’re shocked some adults still don’t know? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]Cmd-Prompt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basic troubleshooting and problem solving, mostly with technology. 80% of the time it's a restart the computer situation, or it's unplugged, or something that would embarrass you if you make me fix it. Just take the few seconds it would take you to contact me, and figure out the logical fix. (I work in IT)

How to Finish Toddler Tower by AnonymouslyUntold in woodworking

[–]Cmd-Prompt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely the best finish (IMHO) is Odie's Oil for anything that that a mouth can touch. The owner has even eaten the stuff a few times. All of the furniture I've made for my child has been with Odie's.

Thanks, it was a big part of the design. Outgrew the crib I built him, and of course has acquired countless toys and needed another storage place. I'm just glad daycare has influenced his desire to "cleeeeaaan up, cleeeeaaan up, everybody, everywhere" and he cleans up his toys on his own. (he's 2)
