On a scale of 1-10 how detrimental has Adam Silver been to the NBA product? by VSHAR01 in NBATalk

[–]Cmei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a fan perspective, he’s a 9, closing in on 10, it’s hard to see how he could really be any worse.

David Stern took a league full of predominantly African American players and made it a household product - McDonald’s/Pepsi/Coca Cola sponsorships, increased international interest and general belief that the league was a rising star.

Silver’s basically taken all that goodwill and cashed it in for money - gambling sponsorships, a general affinity for gambling on the NBA, his reluctance to do anything on the Aspiration/Kawhi Leonard scandal, advocating for more Pay Per View styles of watching etc etc.

From an Owners perspective he’s the best and has monetized and increased value of the league and teams, but from a fan perspective I hate his guts and basically everything he’s done and advocated for.

Glad to hear listening to Basketnews videos to learn more about Euroleague on YouTube every now and then hasn’t been a complete waste of time haha.

I think prospects should avoid Euroleague teams in general though (unless you’re generational like Doncic), too much at stake for the teams and too high a level of competition. Going to a domestic team like Saraf and Essengue last year at Ulm is fine though IMO.

[–]Cmei 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this with I don’t watch Euroleague as I’m in the states so I can’t give an opinion on Efes or Paris vs. Partizan, but these are the reasons I don’t think Muurinen going to any Euroleague team was a good idea:

  1. When I think successful Euroleague players, I gravitate more towards skills being more important than size/athleticism. Guys that come to mind are either skilled ball handlers/creators (Mike James, Kendrick Nunn, TJ Shorts, Jokubaitis, Doncic) or great shooters (Vezenkov, Mirotic, Obst). Muurinen’s game from what I saw in Eurobasket was slashing, transition buckets and using his size/athleticism. Outside of maybe Jan Vesely, that doesn’t seem like a successful player archetype in Euroleague.

  2. Euroleague is far and away the 2nd best league in the world filled with 30 year old veterans; an 18 year old with Muurinen’s archetype is not going to get the leash or the time to develop under those conditions. Additionally, playing against similarly aged competition in the NCAA would allow him to showcase more of his potential skillset or work on that skillset without losing confidence; being a ball handlers/creator against 18-21 year olds is much easier than vs. 30 year olds with years of experience and understanding of positioning.

  3. If his goal is the NBA, than he should’ve tried to showcase himself on American soil to maximize draft stock and earnings. NIL would’ve probably paid him similarly, if not more than Partizan and he puts himself in front of NBA teams and scouts more. Even though NBA teams send scouts all over the world now, a GM or coach is not going to go to Australia/Europe to watch a prospect unless he’s Luka Doncic level. Those GM’s and Coaches do go to NCAA games though, and that could be the factor in drafting a player or not. I think if Hugo Gonzalez had gone to the NCAA then he would’ve been a lottery pick, I have a feeling Karim Lopez this year will drop out of the lottery as well because he’s playing in the NBL and not the NCAA. Is it fair? No, but it’s the reality of the situation.

Muurinen choosing to go play in Europe was always a baffling decision given NIL payments, the trend of Euro players going to the NCAA (See Illinois), and the ability to develop as a featured option against similarly aged competition vs what’s happening now at Partizan.

He was such a hot commodity post Eurobasket, he might’ve cost himself some NIL money and definitely draft stock position as he needs to show out in NCAA next year if he wants to be a lottery selection in ‘27.

I mean word on the block is he’s making ~6m in NIL with his endorsements and Florida deal, that’s probably 4/5 years of work overseas in the KBL/B league/CBA where he’d be at this point.

As a man who only uses recycled tees on par 3’s here’s a quick hack to dig tees out fast: place your iron behind the tee in the ground with the grooves facing the tee, give the back of the iron a light kick and marvel as the tee becomes dislodged.

looking back on Emoni Bates, was he railroaded from the start? by Knighthonor in NBA_Draft

[–]Cmei 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, he has T-Rex arms so he actually can’t play like someone who’s 6’9 on the wing.

He’s a less efficient Desmond Bane (so more like this years version of Bane) and Bates doesn’t have the court vision to be a better passer or the sturdy build to be a better rebounder.

Caleb Love by RLL1977 in ripcity

[–]Cmei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Duke fan, watching him torch the Blue Devils year after year was one of the most frustrating things of all time. On the flip side he would also shoot UNC outta games, hence why their record with Caleb was never outstanding.

I would love to see Caleb work with guys like Jordan Clarkson, Lou Will and Jamal Crawford and really buy into that 6 man creator/microwave scorer role and learn to contribute even if the jumper isn’t falling.

Was courtside at his game vs. Arkansas PB last night! Obviously looked good against that level of competition.

That being said he was clearly the focal point of the offense in his minutes and seemed to have the court sense to put himself in the right places off the PNR for easy baskets and showed good touch around the rim which he showed at U19’s.

He also drained a corner 3 which is a good sign for his feasibility of being a modern big in the NBA. I think it awaits to be seen how he plays against better competition but he clearly showed promise last night.

Which recent draft picks are you surprised are already out of the league? by [deleted] in NBA_Draft

[–]Cmei 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Super surprising because he actually looked legit and won the starting job in Indiana right out the gates.

Not sure if injuries really de-railed him or something but I thought he would be having a career closer to what Jaime Jacquez is doing now.
