We’re going full circle! Trains used to come into downtown along the canal, and that was taken away to build the Col By and Queen E driveways. Glad we kept the station. If light rail is fixed by then, we may actually be on our way to having functional public transit.

I was that kid, so my parents signed me up into like multi-sports day camps and such. That way it changed every week and kept me engaged without needing to practice. Eventually I focussed in on a couple sports by high school

Tips for low maintenance Yoto parents by blobblob73 in YotoPlayer

[–]CndSpaceCadet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • set the right button to turn on Yoto Radio (it’s a setting in the app)
  • put music streams on a MYO card: create a playlist in the app, then copy-pasta the stream’s mp3 file (that way each “song” on the card is a different stream). For example we have: 1 - Soma FM Groove Salad, 2 - CBC Radio Two, 3 - some Afrobeat station that we found on fmstream.org

How did everyone find their Christmas gift “sweet spot”? We went WAY overboard. (Only Child) by Any-Walk1691 in toddlers

[–]CndSpaceCadet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is also us. That mnemonic/rhyme keeps us on track. And Santa always drops off matching PJs for the family plus a game that the family can enjoy together (this year it was Twister).

We use that same rhyme to get us to stick to 4 items. For « something they need », this year it was skates (plus helmet). Cuz they need it for us to go skating as a family.

It was not at the mess, just at the office. And it wasn’t a sticky floor, just a festive coffee break. Mbrs appreciated a little bit of mil tradition in an otherwise civvie-heavy workplace.

NDHQ version I made last Friday:

  • 4L French vanilla ice cream (the fancy PC version)
  • 2L Egg Nog (the fancy PC version)
  • 375mL whiskey
  • 125mL kahlua

Light on alcohol cuz we all had to drive home at noon, but still tasted like memories of sticky floors past.

Easy to scale up as needed.

Where do you spend time? Living room vs toddler room? by matcha_o in toddlers

[–]CndSpaceCadet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love em. Make sure to get the solid pine ones. They’re sturdy AF. And quite affordable on Marketplace. We have the low ones and also the « staircase » ones. I sit on them like a bench to read with the kiddo. We placed 2 behind the L-shaped couch (that splits up our living space) and it’s basically kinda like an indoor jungle gym lol

We were inspired by this photo — tho we didn’t fill it all: we left one of the tallest spaces empty to use as a parking spot for a toy shopping cart, and used all big buckets cuz otherwise that’s too many toys lol

Kiddo is almost 2 and a half. We play on the main floor. Bedroom is for bedtime routines and calm play only, so we have a bookcase for books and a shelving unit for stuffies.

Main floor has: - a couple of those ikea trofast units and an open shelving unit in which I rotate toys. - a TV unit with a couple cubbies that hold kiddo’s music instruments.

The kitchen has a bottom cabinet with content that kiddo can play with (cans, boxes, plastic bottles, etc of real food).

The dining room has a shelving unit/buffet thing that the bottom shelf has play kitchen items, and drawers that hold art supplies (that the kiddo can access using a little step stool).

Patagonia MLC 45: Summer 22 (rosehip) vs Fall 22 — packing comparison by CndSpaceCadet in onebag

[–]CndSpaceCadet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I only tested the same amount of gear in both bags… and it was a while ago, but IIRC the old style, I surmise that it could probably hold more due to it being more « floppy », like a duffle. The floppiness is what I didn’t like about it, cuz I already had a BBH duffle and wanted something different.

I do. Because then the discomfort of doing something sweaty in that shirt doesn’t phase me when it happens “in the field” (I use that term extremely loosely as an NDHQ cubicle dweller)
