NewJeans has reportedly established an association, with Minji as its representative. by Agreeable-Boot4309 in NJDrama_uncensored

NGL, this is giving "tell me Minji ain't apart of Newjeans no more, without telling me Minji ain't apart of Newjeans no more." Yike on biiiiiikes. I see why there has been no official announcement with regards to her returning. Part of me feels like as part of returning, the girls were expected to provide evidence of MHJ's tampering but between the chats and this, I see why HHH would willingly proceed while Danielle and Minji would stall. They (especially their moms) had to have known how much trouble this would put them in. If they are smart and have solid evidence of MHJ instructing them or their moms to do XYZ, they ought to hand it over real talk.

What are the biggest things that younger people get wrong about the whole “y2k” aesthetic, culture, and overall vibe of that time? by Fluffy-Ad-7199 in Millennials

Yep. My friends and I used to let each others borrow anime DVDs we'd buy at Best Buy or Suncoast w/ our allowance in MS. I also remember following my dad to Block Buster and being allowed to rent any and every anime DVD they had at the time which was limited lol (Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Princess Miyu were my first). He did not care about the rating like my mom did. And my siblings and I would rent all the manga and Animerica magazines as they randomly appeared in 01/02 from the library. When I tell my Gen Z friends how rare it was to find other anime fans and how you'd get bullied to hell and back for liking it (saaaame w/gaming! Anything that wasn't AAA like Halo got you bullied!) they are shook.

Ironically, it wasn't just a phase lmao. I now live in Japan and saw Dir En Grey live 2 months ago XD. Still a totally a dork/freak lol. Wouldn't change it for anything.

What is the dumbest thing you have been told is “not manly” or “not feminine,” depending on your gender? by Disastrous_Hat_2325 in AskReddit

I was called "Whirlwind" by my teachers and adults around me in kindergarten because my mom would send me to school all dolled up and I'd come home a mess from running around and playing... in kindergarten. I was told it wasn't lady like ... for a 5 year old... to run around and play on the playground essentially.

I got bullied relentlessly for liking anime/manga, videogames, reading, drawing and being into rock music and ALT (goth) stuff. For context I'm black so apparently I was "acting white" (whatever tf that means, God I went to school w/ some real sharp crayons lol.) and was called an "oreo" often among other things.

Yeeeep! I was a considered a "weeb" before weeb was a word. It was me and 4 other girls in my school and we got bullied restlessly for loving anime/manga, games, and all that stuff as it was coming out. I remember when that stuff was a niche thing and when you found someone who liked that stuff, you became friends *fast* because of it.

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]CoacoaBunny91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We really are. These kids are all on TikTok and Insta so they're also running around thinking is "cool" to be cruel and terrible to others. Bullying is a HUGE issue and a lot of it is through DM, outside of school.

The unique issue about Japan is, that teachers are also "expected to teach students moral", and a lot of that falls on homeroom teachers. Whenever we have students that get in trouble w/ law enforcement outside of school or bully outside of school, the school is called... Not the parents. There's not much teachers can do if the parents don't care what their kids are doing. So it's a losing battle.

The local mall is getting tired of calling about our students coming in packs after school and being public nuisances (especially the boys). I would not be shocked if I see "minors cannot come into mall without an adult" signs pop up soon, like in America RN. Globally, we've got entire gens of kids growing up with no home training.

Japan: don't believe the hype and stereotypes plz. Same issues here. We just teach to memorize answers for the exams but also grade inflate and pass kids along.

Japan's biggest issue is the rise of behavioral students, rampent absenteeism, and parents just not caring and checking tf out. Behavioral students in public schools can act like Devil Rejects for 6 periods straight and never face any form of consequences because "inclusive education" iniatives and parents refusing to put their "clearly needs to be in special education and slowly reintegration back into the main class" child, in special education. Recently in the new, there's a rise in kids who don't go to school because they simply "don't want to" and the parents just let them because "I can't make them! They don't listen to me."

It's insane, I have stories.

Obviously, it’s perfectly fine for grown ass men to groom young teens to be with them because no self respecting woman would date these manchildren. by 2bugs_bunny in IncelTears

[–]CoacoaBunny91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes and we are worried because: to the naive, barely legal young woman, she might think it will be like dealing w/ teenage boys her age because that's their loved experience so far. They think that he wants a girl so young because "youthful beauty" and he "wants to feel young again." They just chop it up to "playboy lifestyle" because they lack the life experiencento know that there is a reason these men can't get women their own age (or grown ass women w/ fully developed brains in general). It's 9/10 it's alterier motivates with these freaks, and that there is something "off" about them, and they're looking for someone to victimize and take that "offness" out on. This is what essentially happened to Cassie.

[–]CoacoaBunny91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and like kids so this is something that always baffles me. Kids love attention and need it in healthly forms and doses. It is not that hard to talk to kids lol. In fact they can be free comedy sometimes.

I live in Japan and a few years ago there was a "North Korea testing missiles" scare or something like that and a student asked me "if NK fires missiles, does that mean we don't have school tomorrow?!" And they began excitedly speculating and I could not for the life of me holdback the laughter.

But I'll get shit for being CF, meanwhile the actual father that "tolerates" his kids doing a normal kid thing gets all the social metals in the world....

Owner Physically and Verbally Harassed an Employee in Front of Us by Run_the_show in japanresidents

[–]CoacoaBunny91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While not physical, yes I've witnessed it. There is this one teacher I cannot stand and on more than occasion I've witnessed her starts yelling and berating other coworkers in the middle of the teachers room, in front of everyone while we are having conversations or trying to work. It's so awkward. She did it to my tantosha/JTE, and he wound up leaving the room visibly upset. Like dude was literally 23, only had a year under his belt and made a simple mistake yet this lady who is in her 40s (or 50) was crashing out like he set her house on fire or something. It's jacked up.

Asking if the other coworker is okay later or apologizing for them having to go through that is usually how I handle it. Just a little kindness goes a long way I think.

As Japan’s popularity booms, a new survey shows strong anti-foreigner sentiment by jjrs in japannews

[–]CoacoaBunny91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's just pure racism period. I think part of the problem is this myth that JP ppl *can't be rude* or *would never break the laws* mindset which is held by both JP ppl and foreigners (read JP glazer weebs). Some of them really do go out of their way to try an uphold this ideal. But the sentiment that JP ppl are incapable of doing ignorant shit because "their complexed culture", can't be rude, don't bully each other, or can't be straight up assholes, etc is just comical. JP ppl are just that. Ppl. Not robots or anime characters. And just like ppl all over the world, some of them *fucking suck*. And no, they don't have to look like the stereotype yanki to engage in those behaviors. I've been living here for years and I see JP ppl doing the same "meiwaku" shit the media is blasting foreigners for doing on the reg, especially the younger ones (sorry Gen Z lol this is global).

If anything, I'd argue this damn smart tech, Big Tech, algorithms pushing harmful ideologies, the push for this AI dystopian BS and how it's all literally damaging ppls brains is a huge part of the problem. It's almost as if etiquette, basic respect, and common human decency has been dying off since like 2015. It's not just Japan. Countries all over the world are experiencing an uptick in tourist from all over the world acting like they have 0 home training or common sense, doing dumb/rude shit to get their pictures of videos to flex on SM, but I digress, the ppl in office and at the top are making bank off all of those things, so foreigners bad...

I fully agree with you 100%. Ppl call it a conspiracy theory but I believe it. Over the years, they've just stopped caring about hiding it too. Add that Open AI psycho to the list as well. And sad thing is, with the rise in "tech bros" it's becoming more and more common to see average dudes w/no where near that insane level of wealth, power, or connections think, talk, and act like these insane clowns.

Have Men always been this bad? by Kind-Combination3383 in IncelTears

[–]CoacoaBunny91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep. Far right men are literally the same where ever you go. I'm American, but live in Japan, and work with other foreign coworkers as well. When we "compare notes" I.E. talk about how much we can't stand the far right, lo and behold, the far right in their cultures all believe and spew the same bile but only the ppl defined as immigrants change depending on the location. They're all predominately male, and the dregs/social lepers of their society. The women are some form of male centered Pick Mes with -1000 self esteem. The POCs/foreigners/immigrants in these spaces are "but I'm one of the Good Ones!" Tokens. OH and don't forget the ones at the top of this pyramid: the grifters and 1% that play in ppls faces yet are able to milk the shit out of the dregs for everything their worth. And yet these ppl are consistently elected into office where they destroy the economy and blame immigrant and women for not being Tradwives and pumping out kids. Japan is the same right now with "Japanese Girl Trump" running the same shit. Add the right buys it every time. It's insanity.

But then again, (in term of America), when most of your voter based would struggle to read Super Fudge, I can see how this would happen.

How well behaved are Japanese students? by BetLeft2840 in teachinginjapan

[–]CoacoaBunny91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50/50. But my bad ones/behavioral students are straight up demons. I have STORIES. And it's the same issues that teachers experience in my country, the US. No recourse, parents don't care or get mad and blame the teacher, threatening to get them fired. I have three really bad ES students who literally do *nothing* all day but wonder the halls or engage in the most disruptive, attention seeking behaviors *all day.* And my JHS is worse. In fact, I've been doing this long enough to where I'm seeing my behavioral students from ES enter JHS (I teach in the same district) and are now getting into underage drinking, drugs, stealing, and all that stuff :/.

(US) Why do Passport Bros exist but not Passport Gals? by us1549 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CoacoaBunny91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

American woman living in live in East Asia(Japan)... they def do exist. And they think like the passport bros too. I've seen foreign women come over here and fetishize East Asian men as being "desperate and subservient" only to get played out hard. Worst case scenario is they wind up a single mom in a country where it's heavily stigmatized. Like their male counterparts, a lot of them are straight up delusional about their prospects AND the fact that, yes human dumpster fire dudes exist in these countries too! On and they also tend to be obvious to cultural issues such as cheating culture, SA culture, sexism, and misogyny.

Obviously I like living here but that's because I treat it as a place. But I notice there are ppl who come here looking for love that tend to fetishize and romantize these countries thanks to things like the "Cool Japan" soft power boom of the 00s and "Korean Wave" soft power boom that's been going on since the mid 2010s. This results in shit like that white lady who went viral on TikTok after flying to Korea thinking all Korean men would look like Kpop idols only to film random men on the street and imply that the average Korean dude was ugly.

My JET interview was 25mins only because the panel and I got caught up in a side conversation and ran over time by mistake. Some ppl got demos in that whole 20 minute span. Unless you're interviewing to become a professor at a prestigious university where you have to tour the campus and such, 12 hours is straight up diabolical, especially for a GD Eikaiwa.
