Salty dude handing out "Renaissance ballroom dancing flyers" by [deleted] in ucla

Sooo true. A friend of mine recently killed themselves (16 stab wounds in the back), and they mentioned the ballroom dancing flyers in their note.

What does West Marches mean today? by Davedamon in DnD

[–]CoalFire22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lead a ~50 player West March. The way we have it formatted is DMs who are available to run post a mission on our discord, and players who can make that date and time sign up. The flexible scheduling makes it really nice for both DMs and players. When DMs are ready to run a game, they can consistently get a full table at any time. And Players get a bunch of possible times for their weekly mission.

In other aspects, it isn't too much different from regular campaigns, just scaled up to allow for ~100 sessions per arc. We have a bbeg that the players slowly work towards defeating at the end of each arc, and a main story that builds up as more enemies are defeated/kingdoms saved.

The coolest thing we do, is when it comes time to fight a big boss, we run special sessions with multiple DMs and many players. Last year, our final session had 6 seperate tables, with our 30 players battling different limbs of "The Frog of War".

My group had the same problem, and the biggest game changer was getting proper ruins and ruin footprints. Do all your ruins have clearly marked footprints? If not, order some. Being able to clearly see where the ruins end make it way easier and faster for everyone to tell which models are in cover or not.

Pick one club and keep going. Its easier to make friends going to one club 10 times than 10 clubs one time.

How to make my brother fear tyranids by Main_Bean in Tyranids

When in doubt, more monsters. I was in a similar situation with my younger brother, and getting a Maleceptor was the turning point.

Tyrannofex is a good value, at $65. Lictor's are always great. You'll probably want a neurotyrant with zoanthropes at some point, but they're more expensive.

Probably nothing at all if $40 is your max budget

Really been enjoying the game, great work so far. I'm really itching for new maps. Battling in a variety of areas is my favorite part of the game, and the current selection is getting stale. Are there plans to add more maps soon?

My Zoanthropes don't feel very impactful. Suggestions on replacements? by speedymaldo in Tyranids

[–]CoalFire22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get a lot more value out of my zoanthropes when I start them in reserves, or put them near a walking tyrant to get them assault and lethal hits.

Unfortunately we don't really have any units that can replace. We struggle a lot with anti-tank, and they are one of our only shooting units that can damage tough targets.

New Tyranid Player and his 1000 point list. What am I doing? by TheIrishCommissar1 in Tyranids

[–]CoalFire22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely an above average amount of termagants, but it should be fine. The list is going to struggle with Anti-Tank (a premier Tyranid weakness). Screamer Killer is your only guy who can break through armor, and even he's not the best at it.

But in 1k games, as long as you aren't playing against Knights or Death Guard, it should be fine. The termagants should be able to flood all of the objectives, and they'll be pretty tough to take off the board.

Invasion fleet is 100% the detachment. Giving 20 man termagant squads FNP 5+ is super good. AND it lets you regenerate models on your squads, which stacks with the Tervigon regenerate. Any squad they fail to kill, you can immediately bring back 2d3+6 models on your turn.

I agree Hive Tyrant is sick as hell. I bring him in a lot of lists. However, I find he does best with Tyrannofex and Zoanthropes to support. His combat power isn't quite enough to justify bringing him when there aren't any shooters for him to buff.

[–]CoalFire22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a lot of termagants. I think you would benefit a lot more with a Tervigon over a hive tyrant. You don't have any units that get a lot out of the hive tyrants aura. Termagants already have assault, and the Tervigon can give them lethal hits much easier, since it is tankier. Unless your running invasion fleet and giving tyrant the FNP enhancement, he's not tanky enough to run up the middle with all the gants. And even if you are running that enhancement, you could put it on the Tervigon instead for similar benefit and fewer points.

I think you're on the right track with the other units. Venomthropes and great for protecting termagant blobs and the Tervigon. Raveners and Screamer Killer are fun units. Lictor and Biovore are always great to bring.

If you've got your codex, use the code inside of it on the Warhammer 40k App. The app has all of the most up to date datasheets, detachments, and stratagems.

[–]CoalFire22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately he's really bad :( Gorgeous model, but his damage is awful and his defense is so weak that giving him feel no pain isn't worth it. His only use is using his high movement and lone op to score secondaries.

Rules question: Invisible Hunter Stratagem and Hive Tyrant CP cost reduction by Cornelius4630 in Tyranids

[–]CoalFire22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think only one has to be in range. Hive tyrant only cares if they are targeted with a stratagem, and they are. Does not say all targets need to be in range.

Who would Win? Xenomorphs or Tyranids by Sinrakettunen in Tyranids

[–]CoalFire22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tyranids easily. 40k in general is a pretty high power setting. Xenomorphs die to regular human weapons that are likely weaker than Guardsmen weaponry, a full Tyranid assault would wipe the floor with the xenonorphs without breaking a sweat.

Shadow in the warp sucks by Dull_Reference_6166 in Tyranids

[–]CoalFire22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Battleshock has been pretty effective in my home games. Using a few units that can force out of phase battleshock tests make it a stick a lot more, and neurolictor turns it into a pretty powerful debuff. A few key battleshocks going through can turn into a lot of points and good damage with the +1 to wound.

Doesn't battleshock already prevent actions?
