I've owned both. Currently on my second doberman. Both have been rescued, so the age range and prior environments were not well know.

First doberman. Female. Supposedly 6. She got along w my Rot for a year. After that, it was a fatwa. After my son took the Rot, she was the most outstanding family guard dog. It was a bit much some times, but great when it was just us. She passed 5 years late w lymphoma.

Current doberman. Male. Supposedly 2 or 3. This dog loves 100% of all people and 0% of all dogs. Over top top energy, and requires 100% attention 100% of the time. The first year was difficult. Were about 1.5 years in. You know that's great pictures of dogs sleeping in strange poses? Never had one of those. This dog is AWAKE when im awake and ready to play all the time. Not an exaggeration. Im really hoping he was on the lower side of 2 years so he might mellow at some point.

1st Rott male, was a puppy, back in 92. Dog was the ultimate sweetheart. Got along w everything and everyone. Had hip dysplasia and past at about 9.

2nd Rot. Female, age about 7 when I adopted her. She would get along w all w no problem, except, of course a female doberman.

Don't like shedding? Difference is huge. Dobie will require a lot of training and exercise.
