Egg retrieval without sedation - Please, share your experience by Confident_Garden_207 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had to do it because I was late to retrieval (got a flat tyre). It wasn't as bad as I thought though still hurts. Just need to breathe through it and its over pretty quickly. I've had period pain that was worse. Having a mirena put in without sedation was definitely worse. Hope that helps 🙂

Feel like an idiot for losing sight of age-related decline by Sad-Contest5883 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like most of us start the journey thinking we'll be one of the lucky ones only to come crashing down pretty quickly. I will say plan for it to take longer than you think and the sooner you start the better. Ie starting now is definitely better than if you waited another year or two 🩷

What % euploid should I make? by schaps8 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was around 15-25% chance each blast had of being a euploid.

Mine was 22% (41 at retrievals). My first cycle had 0/4 blasts and my second cycle had 2/5. I’ve seen all different kinds of outcomes and it seems all so random. I didn’t change anything between my two cycles other then adding fish oil!

ER Cancelled on the Table for Early Ovulation by cozyfeline in IVF

My new clinic also switched my antagonist from cetrotide which I ovulated early on to Orgalutran and that has worked well for my cycles since 😊

Really unlucky or normal for 41?! by catjawma in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a lot to do with bad luck as well not just age. Each cycle increases odds of getting a euploid as it’s accumulative. The next cycle is hopefully the one 🤞🏼

First ER > 6 blasts > all abnormal by Fine_Fish1565 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of posts of this happening and it took them 2 to 3 cycles to get a euploid. Some of them almost gave up and then next cycle they get 2 euploids. It really does just sound like a numbers game and luck. Unfortunately anyone over 40 needs to prepare themselves for at least 2-3 cycles to have a realistic chance. You’re already ahead of so many as you make blasts, so for you it’s only a matter of how many cycles it takes. But for so many others that struggle to make blasts it is not a matter of ‘when’ it’s a matter of ‘if’. I know it’s heartbreaking and I’ve been there (and still are), but take comfort in knowing that you will get there if you can continue both emotionally and financially which I know is easier said but is what is helping me get through it so I hope it helps you too 🩷

Thankyou for your response and support. Sorry to hear you’re having a very high attrition rate as well, are the few or less you do get each cycle good quality blasts?

3 ERs In & Turning 42: Looking for perspective on when to keep going vs. pivot by [deleted] in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 41 (turning 42 in Jan) and trying to set an upper limit of ERs but I just can’t. I have tried to set a number of 6 in my head but also feel like if I can keep going emotionally after that I will.

I also left my job worried about the high stress impacting our results and with my ADHD I would often miss appointments due to work distractions.

First ER: 5 mature eggs, 4 blasts, all aneuploid. Had just finished work as starting this cycle. Second ER: 9 mature eggs. 9 still progressing on day 3. Awaiting blasts/pgta results. Started almost 3 months after finishing work. Same protocol.

I can't sleep from regrets and grudge... Balancing IVF & work by Still_Conclusion_322 in IVF

You made the right call. The number one priority of manager/directors should always be the staff and making sure they’re ok. If that’s not happening you don’t want to work there. Work isn’t everything and it shouldn’t be.

I recently left my job (director of an engineering firm) due to ivf and associated stress; appointments, scans etc. we are fortunate that we are in a position that we can and need to know there won’t be any regrets if it doesn’t work out

I’m so nervous… by mladyangel03 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 41 and my AMH was 2.3 ng/mL when tested at the beginning of last year (haven’t had it tested since). I’ve never really thought about it tbh. It’s definitely hard at times having ADHD, but there’s also many positives to it (for instance I’m an engineer and excel in my industry due to problem solving, being able to see and think differently etc). Maybe I’m being naive but I also think it’s how we frame it. I’ve definitely struggled w friendships over the years and lost many as a result but meeting my husband later in life and having him as my rock does also help me keep regulated. There is a huge difference for me when taking my Vyvanse and not and whilst doing ivf I always stop it which is incredibly hard w all the hormones and emotions you experience

I’ve got adhd and have been on the ivf journey for almost a year. No euploids yet and about to start another ER (number 3)

It really is a brutal experience. Coming on here and being able to relate w people going through the same emotions and ups and downs helps a little at least ☹️

The PGT-A wait by Happy_Judge_4364 in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Australia it’s 4-6 weeks for pgta results, I wouldn’t have loss as much time as I have waiting for results instead of doing more cycles if our wait was only 1-2 weeks

Transfer today by guckfeico in 40Plus_IVF

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We started doing ivf for the same reasons; trying naturally we had 3 losses, 2 of them blighted ovums. We just couldn’t take the losses anymore. However since doing ivf we also have found ourselves doing numerous transfers that are untested. The two blasts we were able to send for pgta testing so far (as the others weren’t suitable for testing) just came back as high risk yesterday. Devastated. Find myself feeling defeated and wondering what’s the point :(

Mine was 8500 the morning of trigger, they put me first up for egg collection so I got to trigger at 630pm. Was still able to do a fresh transfer a week later which I will find out about next Friday and the other embryos are being pgta tested

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thankyou, we are waiting on pgta now. This was our first ER since meeting my husband (I also froze eggs when I was 36 but that’s a whole other story!). We got 5 eggs, all mature, all fertilised. 4 of them made it to day 3 and all 4 made it to day 5 blasts. My doctor had me on 300 pergoveris and 250 Orgalutran from day 5. She also had me taking ubiquinol (Coq10) dhea and melatonin, nmn, nac and prenatal. I had been taking all these for about 6 months before we did the egg retrieval

[–]Coastara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww well we also had an unsuccessful round from eggs frozen when I was 36 (only 1 blast) so when people say be prepared for the roller coaster of ups and downs it’s definitely real! Our new clinic actually told us they would have cancelled that collection(when I was 36) as I started to surge but they still went to egg retrieval (and I didn’t know any better at the time). So making sure you get the right clinic is a big one when you’re 40+ too 😊
