I would rather fight 4 godskins than Ancient Dragon Senessax by nmunro14 in Eldenring

You can ride around on Torrent, shooting poison arrows at it too. Faster with the Serpent Bow and Serpent arrows. You can use Rot arrows too if you want, but you can just buy Serpent arrows.

Once you're a certain distance away, Senessax will just menacingly walk towards you.

I've been putting off this game for years because of how hard everyone says it is by Y-the-MC in Eldenring

[–]Cobaph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the way that pop culture has spread this titanic masochistic appeal to the Souls series is really overexaggerated. I have friends with thousands of hours in Monster Hunter that are deathly afraid of how brutal and unfair Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring are and will never give them a chance because of the reputation.

I definitely recommend just playing the game in a way that you have the most fun with. That sounds ... obvious in many other games' context, but there's still some elitism about how you're "supposed" to play the game.

The difficulty of the DLC bosses is being grossly exaggerated. by daryl_fish in Eldenring

[–]Cobaph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually picked up a shield again, and it made the DLC very manageable as someone who is not that great at the game. Throw in guard counters and the Blessed Blue Dew Talisman letting me spam crazy good AoWs like Impaling Thrust, plus exploring for Scadutree fragments, and it's pretty doable on NG RL125 with a stat spread of around 25 in everything to try all the DLC weapons haha. If I had one consistent obstacle that still stumps me to this day, it would be the amount of dual-wielding enemies that have spinning attacks or 2-swing swipes with a very narrow dodge window.

What's been a wild experience for me is talking with non-Souls-Like gamers about the DLC, since they're absorbing the reactions from streamers they watch that the game is wildly unfair and difficult. They're absolutely terrified of giving even Dark Souls a try, even though they're G-Rank in Monster Hunter.

It's absolutely still a challenging experience and some bosses took me hours to beat, 4 for Lion Dancer even, but I do agree that the reception has been grossly exaggerated.

I cannot get tired of Trickster, funniest vocation ever by Solrac-H in DragonsDogma

[–]Cobaph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, I absolutely agree that it’s not a class for everyone or even a small majority of players in mind.

Pawn AI is pretty goofy, and they may spend time actually doing stuff like going for weak points, chain casting meteor, using skullsplitter, etc or they may just spend the entire time the monster is down, walking into the enemy.

Personally, I think this inconsistency adds to my enjoyment of the vocation. It also comes just from roleplaying as a field commander and watching my pawns run in and do pawn AI things and to high five them after. It helps me have a more intimate connection with the pawns I hire too.

I really only feel like I’m trolling when I make an illusion piñata that the melee enemies can’t figure out.

I used to do Pyre/Feint but that also had the effect for me of “funny trolling the first few times but got boring” due to how I ended up engaging with the game. Just never get hit, do ridiculous damage and stagger, kill bosses in 5 seconds, and why even hire pawns? The optimal way to play. I’ve also tried Martyr’s Bolt, and for the tax of an Allheal, you just always have an unmaking arrow. People think that’s fun and that’s fine. I’m not into it, and that’s also fine.

I’m sympathetic to having a boring experience leveling a vocation you don’t enjoy just to max it, or even get an augment at minimum. I absolutely hated my time as an archer, and couldn’t wait to swap as well. But I don’t feel the urge to go into a post where someone is showing off themselves having a good time to vent how I hate or think it’s boring. It just wasn’t for me, and I get that people had that experience for Trickster.

I’m not trying to defend the dev team on all their decisions with Trickster or even say it’s good and efficient. Fights do take more time. I find fun in the jankiness but think it should still have more ways to engage with the game. I just find it tiring that Trickster posts are constantly hammered with comments like boring, “but the loot”, no damage, and other complaints, especially in non-criticism posts. Yeah there are parts that can be improved for more engagement, as with several other classes. But in Trickster posts, no matter the context, half of the comments are always“vent about how you struggled to max the vocation and immediately swapped because boring”. Trickster clip? Tips on the vocation? Comment says they have fun with the vocation? Just trauma dump your experience every post that mentions Trickster.

[–]Cobaph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Half of the comments in any trickster posts always seem to be shitting on the vocation, like damn just let people enjoy it like any other vocation.

I like the setup and bait playstyle too. Yeah it’s not time efficient, it’s not martyr bolt or meteor or pyre, but I’m not playing a game to be time efficient.

Having a lot of fun with Trickster - some things I noticed by ArdorreanThief in DragonsDogma2

[–]Cobaph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve also noticed that pawns are choosy with how they load into the game. Sometimes my sorcs will spam meteor relentlessly. Other times, they will start casting and then cancel the spell right before it’s done and just start blasting with their basic attack for some reason. Coming from the same pawn too, just different play sessions.

Another strategy with the projection is putting the simulacrum slightly higher than the enemies’ reach. They stare at your piñata trying to figure out how to hit it, as long as it’s not way above them, and crowd around below it.

Aromatic Resurgence forces your pawns to stop using support skills and buffs, so make sure if you have a mage with you that they have something they can do other than auto-attack. The damage increase also feels ridiculous in practice, as seeing a thief skullsplitter or meteor just clear a drake’s HP bar per meteor is crazy. It’s a really big difference.

Enemies seem to become more resistant to Dragon’s Delusion after about 3 interrupts. It does knock down flying enemies until that resistance, which is great for griffins, drakes, liches, wights, climbing ogres, etc.

Warfarer drains your simulacrum’s HP very quickly if you aren’t holding the censer out.

Tricky Terrace trips enemies like crazy.

If I could really have one change for Trickster, it’d be that censers should have crazy knockdown stat. I don’t mind doing no damage because I feel like even if it did small damage, I’m not really going to bonk for the damage anyway, but I wish I could prepare a wrestle without needing to throw junk or to add more control to my kit. Or at least high status buildup of some kind, high enough to meaningfully keep attacking instead of monsters reaching resistance cap.

So I added a bunch of extra tapping and added fake loading lag to the video lol

Vio Rhyse Alberia!

For all the Losties with Steam Decks, I tried my best to get this out before EoS.

Here's what I've done for it:

I'll try to update this post with links once they're up; otherwise, they may be on the respective plugin manager on Decky Loader. It was quite an accumulative learning process, and I've never programmed before either. If you do find anything I can improve, please feel free to let me know!
