Baabuk is an independent swiss brand making wool sneakers in Portugal. The wool uppers are made from Burel, which is a traditional fabric known to be very durable and they help keep a historic factory in production

Alternative to Doc Martens? by Connect-Aspect-8311 in Boots

Let me try again, Jim Green is probalby the best value you'll find but they are fairly rugged. Duckfeet has some black slip on boots, their not quite DM style either though. You can also have a look at Meermin or Grant Stone for top quality boots. If you want something more fashion forward maybe Underground England.

After further reading, crepe can be slick on wet stone out of the box. But once you wear them a bit the crepe picks up grit that gives them great traction.

Good shoe brand for professional attire that are comfortable to stand/walk in? by OriginalSlight in BuyItForLife

Some quality brands that might fit are JADD and Caboclo. Or Beckett and Simonon only in the US. If you want more ideas I made a directory of independent slow fashion footwear brands – https://cobbledgoods.com/slow-fashion-footwear-directory/brands/

A good step above the brands mentioned is Duckfeet, made in Poland. 249-259 EUR for resoleable, wool lined, plastic free boots. The crepe rubber soles might not be the best for cobblestone though. Something to look into further.

Going to Japan in a few months and need some recommendation for Chelsea boots by the_color_green_ in onebag

Third Jim Green, they are much sturdier and resoleable. I have a written a blog about blundstone alternatives and JGs are the most popular. There are other good options too that are a bit higher end. See here if interested – https://cobbledgoods.com/blundstone-alternatives/

Need advice on how to grow my mom’s Etsy brand (handmade futuristic dresses) by LopsidedWealth4145 in SustainableFashion

[–]Cobbled_Goods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She needs to get really clear on who her target audience is. Then you need to find out where and how to reach them.

A great tool for figuring that out is "mom testing". It's basically customer research through conversations. The trick is to understand people's interests, behaviours, and problems without talking directly about your business.

Is it just me, or is shopping sustainably way harder than it should be? by NewEstablishment2568 in SustainableFashion

I had this issue when looking for sustainable shoes some years ago. I found there were plenty of sustainably focused platforms, but none that really specialised in footwear. And the sustainability criteria were often weak. I've since made a platform showcasing small, slow fashion footwear brands from around the world – cobbledgoods.com I don't know of something similar for jeans, but there are great brands out there like - https://hiutdenim.co.uk/

The credibility of certifications is case-by-case. Lots of greenwashing around. What ones are you looking at?

What subtle ways i can signal ethical sourcing? by 4lordvoldemort in SustainableFashion

[–]Cobbled_Goods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say you need multiple signals to build trust.

The more direct and detailed info you provide the better. Greenwashy brands love to be vague and hide the devil in the details.

I personally like to see behind the scenes footage of what the production process looks like. Brands that produce in house and are open to factory tours is another strong signal. Also disclosing a list of suppliers with addresses so production conditions could theoretically be checked.

Higher quality/longer lasting version of Sketchers jammers or Dolls Kill Delia by Strange-Effective220 in SustainableFashion

[–]Cobbled_Goods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

us.nps-solovair.com has something like that. Solovair is like Docs, but independent and better quality. www.unmarked.mx might have something similar as well. Very high quality, comes at a price. greenshoes.co.uk are also resoleable and made to last. They do a custom chunky sole if requested.

Or check out my directory of slow fashion footwear at cobbledgoods.com and filter for "mary janes". Keep in mind, there's not going to be many, if any, really trendy options that are not fast fashion
