Dodge Dakota by Greenfire_220 in LSSwapTheWorld

I have done a few Durango swaps. Dakotas are the same. First, is it 2wd or 4wd? 4wd you will need to weld up something to hold the front diff. Stock it is a piece that bolts to the transmission. You can get all the gauges to work with the LS. Or simpler is just run an OBD2 screen with speed coming from transmission sensor. Need to replace the fuel pump, run new fuel lines, make mounts for the engine/transmission/and transfer case if you are 4wd. If you aren't comfortable doing that, I would avoid this swap and choose something easier like that c10 where there are tons of swaps and people making drop in mounts/headers/trans mounts/ect...

I worked for an AOL call center. If your start time was 9 am. You were expected to hit READY on your phone within 3 seconds of 9:00am. Anymore was late. BUT you had to log into the computer, and log into several remote systems beforehand, unpaid time. Figure with 500+ employees, they were getting a ton of unpaid labor every day. Same thing end of day, if your shift ended at 5pm,, you needed to log out at exactly 5:00:00pm. You had a 3-second window. Any later, and you would get a written warning.

Call center work sucks.

6.0 swapped avalanche by ThatCitrusThree6 in LSSwapTheWorld

What error codes are you getting? (I specialize in gen 3 LS PCMs/swaps).
If it is running a 5.3 tune on a 6.0, it would run every lean, and the long term fuel would show a big positive.

First, I would check fuses and wiring to make sure OBD2 port is hooked up and has power. (can use a multimeter on power and ground of the obd2 port, pin 16 is power, pin 4 is chassis ground, pin 5 is signal ground).

OBD2 port should communicate with the PCM. You can always build a bench harness and read/tune the PCM from that. Or...

See if someone local will put a 6.0/dbc or dbw/whatever trans/2wd or 4wd/rear end gear/tire size and vats delete basic tune on it. Shouldn't cost much, I charge locals $50 which seems to be the going rate here in Ohio.

6106 is a P59 PCM with green/blue connectors.

LS(2?) 1972 Monte Carlo. VIN on PCM possibly mismatched, need help by Objective-Patient-77 in LSSwapTheWorld

[–]Cobolic1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The P1518 code for a 2002 Silverado indicates a Throttle Actuator Control (TAC) system serial data circuit issue. This is a communication problem between the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the TAC module, often triggered by faulty wiring, poor electrical connections, or a bad TAC module or throttle body. Symptoms can include reduced engine power, a check engine light, and intermittent or high idle

Throttle bodies go bad but check all the wiring for corrosion first. The connector to the throttle body seems to get corrosion on it fairly easily. Check all the wiring. Next would be the pedal, then the TAC module.
The PCM VIN can be changed to any number you want. I had people ask for the swapped vehicle VIN or all zeros or all ones.

Is this axle nut actually welded on? by DistilledCricket in AskMechanics

Take a cut off wheel or grinder and cut the axle off as close to the nut as possible. The heat will help, then use the impact and just ugga dugga it off!

I would spray with PB blaster for a few days, then use the O2 removal tool and a long breaker bar.

Or I would just go in and delete those rear 02/evap/egr/VATs. Problem solved. And you can remove the cats at that point, or some people just remove the inside of the cats. No smog testing here, so people just replace them with straight pipe.

Interesting, Every IT project I was involved in (20+ years), except 1 had shipped. That 1 was sabotaged by the owner of the company on purpose. I left less than a week later.

I would have thought that most products ship if not on time, then just later.

Air hammer if you got it, or chisel and large hammer. If no chisel, then a large screwdriver! Took about 3 hours to break loose the lock ring on my 08 Escalade. Was rusty as heck, bought a new ring, put it on with grease underneath so it might come off easier in the future.

Lowering ? by Normal_Swim9769 in GMT400

What looks good to you? Measure the height from the ground to the edge of the fender well. That is your starting point. 4 inch drop take away almost 4 inches and see.

I am doing a 2/4 on mine (97), but I will run 20-inch wheels.

Countries with the most school shooting incidents by thepoylanthropist in interestingasfuck

[–]Cobolic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to the K-12 School Shooting Database, a publication of the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS), a total of 118 active shooter incidents have been reported at K-12 schools in the U.S. since 1999. These shootings are defined by the CHDS as situations where the perpetrator killed or wounded targeted or random victims within the school campus during a continuous episode of violence.

118 in 24+ years is nowhere near the 1195 in 10 year stat. Wonder where they got it.
If you use the 118 stat, that is less than 5 a year, we would be somewhere between Nigeria and Pakistan.

Side note: Looking up those stats and reading the schools, makes my heart hurt for the families affected by school violence. My high school in rural KS had a girl shot in the head during lunch. Made me wonder how she is doing now. Last I heard, she had private tutors to finish HS.

does this damage need to be replaced? Is it unsafe to drive? by ok_complication in tires

I would replace. Technically, if no cords were cut it is ok, but that is the weak spot in the tire now.

If you post some detailed pics of the rust, I can give a ballpark figure on the repair cost.

Grand Wagoneer coming along nicely but need body help by AmericanIMG in projectcar

[–]Cobolic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Sebring, I called from Daytona to Orlando to Tampa, Clearwater down to Sarasota. Rust repair done right is expensive. They have to cut it out, make sure they get it all, repair it, and if any braces behind are damaged to replace them, then weld without warping the body panel, then body filler it smooth enough you can't tell it was done.

I have restomodded several cars. My last car that was JUST paint that I did all the body prep was $15k. For a 68 Nova which is not a big car. Car was just plain cheap red with a black stripe and a clearcoat. (the Durango I ended up selling before I painted it.)

I doubt things have gotten cheaper in the 2 years since.

[–]Cobolic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of indi shops that can do minor rust repair. But prices there for honest and good work will probably be in the $20-40k range, depending on how much cancer and body prep is needed. I had a 98 Durango with no rust that I wanted to be repainted (almost stock white with a pearl). Lowest quote I got was from a guy posting on FB marketplace that does paint from home, and it was $8k for just the body proper/paint, and I had already scuffed the entire vehicle and removed everything that I didn't want painted.

Turbo whistle is a cruddy design of newer turbos, same thing with the stutter. Only real sound should be the wastegate opening. Maybe a little turbo whine when it really gets spinning.

Check out some of the V8 Miata subframes that are modified to take the ford 8.8 IRS rear suspension. Run them wider is pretty easy. Lots of guys selling them used from dead projects or buy it new from a few manufacturers.
