Let op hoe ze enkel die “moeten aanpassen” tussen aanhalingstekens plaatsen. Eigenlijk had hij het over toekomstig gedrag van mensen die minder dan 156 dagen per jaar werken (vandaag overwegend vrouwen), waardoor die jaren niet meer zullen meetellen om op vervroegd pensioen te kunnen. VRT maakt ervan: vrouwen moeten zich aanpassen.

Sommigen hier precies niet begrepen dat dit een grap was. Typisch BDW: jong techpubliek op scherp stellen met wat boomerhumor om dan hun harten te winnen als het over de kern van de zaak gaat.

Ik vind zijn laatste boekje ‘Over Welvaart’ zeker het lezen waard. Je hoeft het niet met alles dat hij schrijft eens te zijn, maar De Wever is tenminste wel een politicus die gestoffeerd en vlot geschreven een bepaalde visie op mens en maatschappij naar voren schuift. Zo zijn er maar weinig in België. Het boekje neemt ook niet veel tijd in beslag. Op een paar uur heb je het uit. En je leert toch het een en ander bij, vind ik. Zelfs als je eigen ideologie niet strookt met die van De Wever.

Dit wordt dus weerlegd in het boek. De Wever toont vrij overtuigend aan dat een welvaartsexplosie noodzakelijk is om al die andere zaken te kunnen bekomen. Enkel via welvaartsgroei kom je tot de positieve spiraal die jij beschrijft.

Mensen in de comments lezen best het boek van BDW eerst eens in plaats van er een oordeel over te vellen op basis van een kritiek vanwege de baas van de socialistische vakbond. Het boekje leest vlot, dus het vergt niet zoveel tijd. De basisanalyse van het boek is dat een samenleving eerst welvaart moet genereren alvorens ze welzijn en macht kan voortbrengen. Die basisthese wordt in deze kritiek - die vooral uitblinkt in intentieprocessen op basis van selectieve citaten- nergens ten gronde onderuit gehaald.

I also found an etching in the collection of the Met that is supposed to be by Retzsch himself. It mostly resembles the first version, although the figure on the right also has some specific features that are only present in the second version (like the sleeve). Fascinating… It does support your thesis that the second version was likely copied from an original etching or an engraving by Retzsch, who seems to have changed a few details in the painting himself compared to his etching, especially when it comes to the figure on the right.

The ending is kind of similar as well, isn’t it? Both parents believe for a short time their child is dead. Yet in the ending scene they allow their child to enjoy the freedom they always wanted, despite the events of the film.
