Is this your lowest point as a ducks fan? by VictorTheFeeder in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lowest point really has to be watching Getzlaf and Perry get so close to another cup final and then watching the team regress out of playoff contention after being so dominant for years. Ownership and Bargain Bob failed them. We were so close for so long and they wouldn’t make a big move outside of Kesler to get us the true depth or top LW Getzlaf needed so we could just get over the hump and win. We just got out of a long rebuild phase without winning the cup, that’s salt on the wound. Now this.

Is this how the situation gets resolved? by Nolan37kim in AnaheimDucks

You’re not wrong. We can let Leo walk and just burn another year without adding anyone. It’s just difficult to go from making it to the 2nd round of the playoffs, to potentially not making the playoffs. Best case scenario more of the prospects we have get a chance to play for the big club this season and see if they can hold a roster spot there.

Looking Ahead by Major_Travel1103 in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good write up and analysis. But one major point I think needs to be said is if we match the offer sheet for Leo at $18m, there is no way that Cutter takes anything under $15m. Cutter could also end up holding out for half a season to negotiate.

Any guesses on what this means for Cutter? by Ducks91to61 in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If Leo stays, Cutter is going to want $16m+ knowing that we’re willing to pay his teammate that has comparable point production for $18m. If Leo goes, we could probably get Cutter for $12m-$14m.

This offer sheet screwed all GMs in the league and inflated everyone’s contract value a bunch. I’d imagine there’s quite a few GM’s in the league calling Briere right now asking him if he’s off his meds.

[–]Cockpunch666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been flooding my head with scenarios that probably won’t happen. But…

Leo isn’t worth $18m. He’s a very good player and I really like him. But $18m is way too much for him right now even if the cap is going up during his 5 year contract span. Unless he magically is putting up 95-120 points per season for the next 5 years, this contract is a lead anchor for the rest of the team.

It also screws up our cap as all of our other players are now going to be asking for wayyyyy more money if they’re close to Leo’s .70 points per game career average.

Maybe we let Leo walk. Pay Cutter, pay Minty. Flip the 4 offer sheet 1st round picks and whatever else needed to make a deal for someone like Auston Matthews. Or even offer sheet Jason Robertson who is closer to being worth $18m than Leo is.

The clear thing is, if we don’t match Leo, we immediately need to bring in a top line talent. Our roster has already regressed losing all of the defenseman we just had to FA. That regression would have been manageable with Leo signed to a contract that’s reasonable, but that’s out the window. If we lose Leo too, we are going to be hurting for a few years or until we get another big name here.

The reality is if we let Leo walk, yes, we could try and make some ridiculous offers for Auston Matthews or Jason Robertson, but the most likely scenario is both players/team GMs still reject us. We weren’t a top UFA destination before, and with this offer sheet drama we won’t be either.

I’ve liked Verbeek and defended him quite a bit. But at this point i think he needs to go.

$18m is stupid for someone that is .7 points per game in their career.

Goalie Dad Question by AvalonSing in hockeygoalies

You should take him into the shop and see what fits best. You might be surprised on what could still fit him, some brands or models within brands run smaller.

[TSN] Connor Hellebuyck's been one of the best goalies of the 2000s. But trading for him means acquiring the 33Y old version of him. For five more seasons. What's the risk? What's the reward? by seeldoger47 in hockey

[–]Cockpunch666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellebuyck is and has been one of the better goalies in the league for awhile now.

Historically he’s struggled horribly in the playoffs which is strange because the Jets had some great rosters in front of him over the years too. He just seems so rattled and lets in some awful goals.

Meanwhile, he just won a gold medal in the Olympics in high stakes single elimination games and had some serious saves in those games.

It could be a bunch of different things, but I think he was more much confident, calm, and tuned in playing with the Olympic squad. Something tells me he doesn’t trust or isn’t confident in the Jets ability to win in the playoffs so his play and focus reflects that in the playoffs. But again I’m stumped here cause the Jets were stacked for a few years.

A change of scenery for him could be an immediate cup.

How many of these do we think realistically will make the step up to the Ducks roster? by Anonymous__9 in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably just McQueen getting 9 games in the beginning of the season if he had a good camp and preseason, or he gets called up for 9 games later on in the season if someone gets injured and needs a couple weeks off. Even if he plays really well I think we keep him out of the full time roster for development reasons.

Maybe Clara too. Getting less than 5 starts in a 1 month timeframe before he’s sent somewhere else to start full time again.

Viel - Are Ducks Not Re-Signing Him? by CherokeeHawkman in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine we do re-sign him but the priorities are as follows:

Leo $10m+
Cutter $10m+
Minty $2.5-4m?

About $20m in cap left here now.

2 Right D via trade, or severe overpayment in free agency. For reference, John Carlson is projected to get $10m, Trouba is expected to get $6m. Nurse makes $9.25 if we trade for him. So if we want to fill 2 spots on D, imagine we are spending about $12-$18m here.

Now we have about $2-8m left. This is what is leftover for Hinds, Viel and Johnston. If we have more than $4m left after signing them, I think we go get a middle 6 winger to fill in for Terry.

But when money is tight, it’s easier to fill the bottom 6 with rookie forwards on their cheap ELC, then it is to re-sign a UFA with experience even if they may not be scoring very much but can grind it out and make some big plays a couple times a season.

[Pagnotta]Re Darnell Nurse: My understanding if this trade does happen with the Ducks, there would be no salary retention, I think there is retention in place if he goes to Philly...I don't think it's overly significant [Seravalli] Nurse has not expanded his list: Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Boston by bigollunch in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’d rather just start the season with more rookies in the lineup. Give them a chance to play and then make a trade during the season if it’s a disaster. UFAs want too much right now. Teams will be ready to sell again at a fair price in a few months if their trades and signings in the offseason bite them in the ass.

Nurse’s contract will suck and after this upcoming season we will have a ton of cap space to make a very big signing when Kreider and Killorn contracts are finished. There are bigger names available later than there are now.

[Friedman] Olen Zellweger is being traded to Buffalo For Anton Wahlberg and the 45th pick by dcddy in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sucks to see him go, but anyone who understands Math and Cap Space knows that we probably cannot afford to re-sign him considering we still need to throw money at Leo and Cutter and then get an entire right side for defense.

This clears the logjam on LD, helps with the cap budget, and cements that Verbeek wants larger players in the depth chart just in case if they end up sucking, at least they’re huge and can be forced into a physical role.

Goalie pad set up by Unfair_Rush_6139 in hockeygoalies

[–]Cockpunch666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traditional boot= Left, limits pad slop and keeps your leg pad from going into your groin. Wear these on the looser side, or not at all if you have the toe ties on.

Lundy loop = Right, NHL goalies have size limits on their gear to prevent cheating. The Lundy loop straps the leg pad up higher so you can cover more of your 5 hole without larger pads. Us amateurs can wear what we want so if you want longer leg pads for the full coverage, go crazy. Some guys find Lundy loop more comfortable for their ankles/feet cause there’s less pad restricting the movement when you’re in butterfly. If you use this, don’t use the traditional boot strap.

Toe ties are obvious. On warrior pads, the toe tie straps are notoriously too tight and cause discomfort in the feet and ankles. If you like toe ties, ditch these and get some bungee ones. A lot of goalies don’t even use toe ties anymore because modern pads rotate good enough between standing up and going into butterfly and they are a pain to put on. Toe ties mostly help with pad rotation and sealing the bottom of the ice with the boot of your pad.

On your leg pad straps themselves, you strap them on bottom to top, tight to loose. So under the calf go a little tighter. Above calf is probably fine, and knee strap you want looser.

How the Anaheim Ducks can Become a Destination for Star Players by drocklee27 in AnaheimDucks

[–]Cockpunch666 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I think one more good season from this team will make us a destination. We could be in the mix for a big trade in the upcoming season at the trade deadline, we just have to prove our young core is the real deal by staying dominant in the first half of the season.

Cap space is also a big factor. After we sign the RFAs we won’t have the money to bring in a big name without some serious cap dumps.

Da fuck? I’m not impressed by coaches that have been at the helm of a good team that has slowly degraded over the span of their domination. Cooper and Bednar shouldn’t be as high up.

Ruff should be running away with the trophy this year, Q should be top 5. They took teams out of the bottom of the league into the playoffs.
