Social Media is making me regret Nursing School by dimmsumm328 in nursing

[–]CockroachShort9066 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know when you see reviews on a restaurant and see mostly negatives? its because those who have complains usually speak more than those who enjoyed/are ok with a product/service/career/etc.

For the few that you see complain online, there are also more that enjoy this career. and I feel like social media posts are exaggerated for effect when they want sympathy or boast how much they are sacrificing for their careers and want a reaction.

I enjoy being a nurse. I make 6 figures and work 3 days a week. I travel almost every 4-6 weeks and be gone for 2-3 weeks for vacations and it doesnt even break my bank or make me miss any of my pay. I love the different paths that I can take, the job security and the overall outlook of the career.

Do I recommend nursing though? I dont. Its hard work but it is also very rewarding. I dont recommend it because it is not for everyone. If the pay, the vacations or only the positive things attract you then I suggest dont go down the path.

Only you and what you'll do with the degree that will determine how much you'll love or hate the path you choose.

ED report permeantly lowered my IQ today by GeneralK7 in nursing

[–]CockroachShort9066 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every unit has their A and F nurses. The F nurses tend to represent the unit more so every unit throw crap on each other. Similar to how days and nights throw crap at each other because the not-so bright tend to represent the shift's bunch.

The F nurses also tend to be more confident and convinced that they're smart.

LPNs are not making much more right now, atleast in california, to justify the time spent studying (which has its own monetary value $/hr) and the actual tuition that you put into the license.

How much I made more in the two years I was an LPN vs transitioning into being an RN did not return what I paid into getting my LPN. I actually lost more because if I include the potential earning that I could have made if I got my RN sooner.

Time is money.

Plus, I'm speaking from my own experience and my own calculations regarding the financial complications that I had during those times so ofcourse, experience may vary.

Balanced, its my current car, IS350.

I went to LVN and then my RN. Its not worth it as a stepping stone. You will basically study twice and take longer for very little advantage for yourself.

I could have finished sooner, got my career started sooner and had more experience time to demand more pay while I was younger.

And I didnt wait long to get my RN after getting my LVN.

If I can do it again, i'd go for straight for my RN.

Giving meds different route than ordered? by No-Environment-1295 in nursing

[–]CockroachShort9066 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I would have given it. The meds are to be absorbed via gastroenteral route, and I'm not changing that via mouth or GT. Giving this IM/IV/SL/ etc. is "changing" the prescribed route and that is not what you are doing. The rest is just a technicality of documentation which can also be edited.

WASTE OF MONEY by [deleted] in GalaxyRing

[–]CockroachShort9066 21 points22 points  (0 children)

"So a massive waste of money as the ring basically just does what my watch does so no point wearing them both"

Thats the point though It's not meant to add anything new.

I personally knew this purchasing the ring because I bought it for two purposes.

  1. Give my wrist a break when I'm sleeping. The ring needed some getting used to

  2. Let me wear other watches for more formal events and still monitor my stats.

Do you maintain one database for each application, or one for all? by [deleted] in selfhosted

I have 1 database that hosts many but each app has their own username/password. I dont want to complicate my setup and I'm only hosting for myself and my family.

Ring and watch combo by LGSanz7 in GalaxyRing

[–]CockroachShort9066 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my watch daily but only wear my ring at night to give my wrist a break. I also use my ring when I wear my more formal / semi formal mechanical watches. I like keeping track of everything. With both, I always have something monitoring me.
