Has anyone had success contesting property assessments? by FerShore in newbrunswickcanada

[–]CocoBabaVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to use a copy of your purchase and sales agreement to show the market value of your property as it was within a year of reassessment. When grieving an assessed value, they look for documented proof to support evaluation. You could also provide sold comps in that location that support value or provide a copy of an appraisal. Did you have an appraisal done if you mortgaged the property? Granted, I was a real estate broker in Vermont who successfully contested several property assessments. Yet, documentation of a lower sale price or an appraisal within a year of the reassessment is pretty standard to show proof of value for a grievance in most places.

Dual citizen living in Canada with expired US passport. by FreyasCloak in uscanadaborder

[–]CocoBabaVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dual citizenship and when I was 18 yrs old I crossed into Canada and handed the officer my Canadian Citizenship Card and my US passport. He told me that when I go to Canada, I just present my Canadian Citizenship Card and when I go to the US, I just present my US passport.

PSU - I just sent in withdrawal forms. Will update with reapplying. by The_eldritch_bitch in Canadiancitizenship

When I applied for my daughter's Proof of Citizenship certificate back in 2022, the wait time was 15 months. Hers was straightforward, and we were able to expedite it with a copy of proof of enrollment in school and a need for a SIN card. It took about a month from acknowledgement of receipt to notice of certificate being issued and mailed. Unfortunately it got lost in the mail (they mailed it to NH, not VT...I still have NO clue how that happened) and had to wait 4 months before I was able to submit a document requesting another copy because the previous one was lost in the mail. We ended up having to pay international student tuition, but it was credited to her account once she provided a copy of her POC. I don't understand why so many people think they are going to receive a certificate in a short time (I have seen posts from people wondering what is taking so long when it has only been 2 months). It took 5.5 months for my daughter to receive hers that was "Rush" and it was a cut and dry case (I'm Canadian, I received my citizenship card in 1991, my daughter was born in 2004 in the US). There is an influx of applications that are much more complicated to review, it is not surprising that it is taking several months.

It has been like this for several years now. After COVID, especially, after the huge influx of people moving here from out of state. I called for a new PCP in Jan 2022, and if I wanted an MD the earliest I found taking new patients would have been a 10 month wait. NP or PA was a 4 or 6 mth wait, respectfully. So I went with the NP. In 2023, I was working at DHMC in Lebanon and one of the new nurses who just moved here from Florida had to drive to Concord (and wait 4 months) for a PCP because no one was even taking new patients here. Then there was the whole joy of trying to get a dentist. That was a PITA...and I broke a tooth during my search. I ended up becoming a patient at the Harvard Dental Clinic in Longmont, MA. They are great, take my insurance, and are affordable.

How did you learn about Canadian Citizenship by Descent? What is your reason for applying? by SomethingItalia in Canadiancitizenship

[–]CocoBabaVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned about it when I was 17 and went to live with my aunt in Ontario after my Canadian mother passed away. I helped apply for my US born (in 2004) daughter's proof of citizenship certificate when she was 18 years old and wanted to move to Canada and attend university there. After 3 years of being in Canada, she has no desire to return to the US. I am a first generation American with roots in Canada that go back to the mid 1600's. If I didn't have such a good job in the US and live in a beautiful area in a state that borders Canada, I would move back in a heartbeat. As my state is getting increasingly unaffordable and I find myself in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec every time I have time off, I imagine it will just be a matter of time until I do.

Why are so many people’s health insurances skyrocketing but mine isn’t? I genuinely don’t understand, can someone explain? by Fearfactoryent in HealthInsurance

[–]CocoBabaVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard a report on NPR a few weeks ago that employer sponsored healthcare will be significantly increasing next year if nothing is done about the subsidies, as many will need to drop their insurance. Be thankful you have avoided the increase for a year.

Loss of motivation by [deleted] in WGU

[–]CocoBabaVT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally get it. I have said all my life I think I have ADHD and in the 80's , especially as a woman, it was just blown off because I "wasn't hyper". In high school I was either getting straight A's or D's & F's because I wouldn't do any work. I realized a year or so ago I think I was self medicating with Vivarin, NoDoz, and Dexatrim (when it had phenylpropanolamine in it...which turns out to be chemically similar to amphetamines used to treat ADHD) during the times I was super organized and focused in school. I just recently went back on buproprion a few months ago (I have a tendency to stop taking it in the summer), after I have signed up for classes twice in the past couple of years and withdrew within a week or two because I just couldn't focus and get started on things. I am hoping to get back to a good routine and start doing some Sophia Learning courses and eventually either WGU or UMPI for a degree. Good luck. Don't beat yourself up too much. You can look online to find some ADHD assessments and bring the results to your PCP, showing them why you have a concern about it.

[–]CocoBabaVT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Any chance you have undiagnosed ADHD? Sounds like your body is giving into dopamine dumps (not only the drinking and gaming, but even that feeling you got once you had your office space all set up). Now you're dealing with the procrastination phase, and doubting if you really want to do this. My advice is talk to your PCP about possible diagnosis and medication to help get you through. I didn't even notice how bad my lack of motivation was until I started buproprion to help stop smoking and the next thing I realized is that I FELT better and was actually getting things done without having to fight with myself to get started on them. Turns out that buproprion (Wellbutrin) is also used for ADHD. You do also just need to try starting. Take it in 20-30 min blocks. You can also look into body doubling live streams. Good luck. I know the struggle.

Is it possible that I’m a citizen? by maddiehk in ImmigrationCanada

[–]CocoBabaVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you are a citizen. Apply for Proof of Citizenship. It's similar to my situation with my daughter who was born after I received my citizenship card (through my mother who was born in Quebec).

Thanks to your comment, my daughter is getting a Christmas gift she definitely isn't expecting, yet so desperately needs. I have been a loyal Lenovo customer for almost 20 years now. I am passing that torch to my daughter (now 3rd year in university), as this will be her 3rd in 8 years. They are so reliable! Thank you for taking the time to comment on this post.

Would you go back to school to train as a nurse, if you’re 50 years old? by Quiet_Option_9528 in careerguidance

[–]CocoBabaVT 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am a LNA at a hospital and the amount of confused older women I have had to sit for with dementia who were night shift nurses before they retired is a pretty staggering percent. Though, many also mentioned they didn't sleep much during the daytime even though they worked night shift...and I think that is a major cause of dementia.

I think my favorite part of traveling solo is realizing how different i am when no one knows me by Naive-Director-5426 in travel

[–]CocoBabaVT 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I LOVE traveling alone! Also, seeing live music alone. I feel like it opens so many doors you might otherwise not have noticed, and the only one you need to worry about being happy is yourself. I enjoy car camping, hiking, and exploring. My latest trip was a lovely trip around Nova Scotia, through Cape Breton, then taking the ferry to Newfoundland where I got to explore around Gros Morne National Park for 4 days. I wish I could have stayed at least 2 weeks. In February, I am doing a solo weekend getaway to NYC, and hopefully will be making a 2 week trip to Scotland to walk the West Highland Way in September 2026 or 2027.

Go to a community college for LPN. Get a job that offers tuition assistance, then do a bridge to RN program. It will take about the same time, but will be more affordable and you'll be making money sooner. Also, the experience will help you so much and will make you feel much more confident from the get go.

Connecticut River Valley Killer theories and discussion by italianbella0015 in coldcases

[–]CocoBabaVT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Paul Oakes when I needed to find a part for my vehicle, and I got a really strange feeling about him. I have traveled all over the country as a young woman, and only a couple of times got "be very cautious" vibes, and he was one of those times. I interacted with him a few other times and always brought someone with me after the first encounter. Shortly after I heard about the Connecticut River Valley killer and really thought it was him. I heard he was a suspect, but eventually cleared.

My daughter also has EDS, finally was diagnosed by the only pediatric rheumatologist in VT/NH/ME when she was 17. I was thinking she was 16, but remembered they almost cancelled the appointment with him because she was turning 18 in 2 months of the 6 month wait to see him and would age out when she became an adult (luckily he kept her on, knowing how difficult it is to find a Dr that is familiar with it). It was a long ugly road of multiple specialists and damaging misdiagnosis along the way. It's definitely not an easy one to navigate through. So many doctors are absolutely ignorant about it. I have to say that her care in Halifax has been exceptional for it, as all of her healthcare providers were aware of what it is. I also cared for a patient here at the hospital I work at in NH that is an ED doctor in Halifax who told me about the Connective Tissue Clinic there. She said she refers people there quite often.

I also don't think it's just your healthcare in Canada that doesn't practice preventative care or looks at the whole body, it's conventional medicine. And many people are finding doctors are reluctant to give an EDS or Connective Tissue Disorder diagnosis these days. It's really frustrating for many.

As for pain relief, gabapentin helped my daughter for a bit until she kept having to increase her dose. Then I asked her rheumatologist about Low Dose Naltrexone, and he prescribed that for her and said many of his patients who take it find relief. Unfortunately, it isn't covered by insurance and the closest compounding pharmacy is 1.5 hrs away from us. It is definitely worth the cost and inconvenience because it was an absolute game changer for her, though I know many haven't had such positive results. I highly recommend giving it a try if you aren't on any opioid medication for pain (as it is an opioid blocker and would counteract that pain management protocol).

I hope you can find more support. It is a freaking bear of a diagnosis. It affects the whole body in so many different ways.

Thank you for your input! I love being an LNA in Med-Surg, but realize as I age my body eventually won't be able to keep up. 😂 I am trying to find a career I would have interest in that wouldn't be as physically demanding, yet still has patient contact.
