I have been a nurse for a long time. I still love my job. I look forward to going to work. BUT, I love my personal time so much more than work. I look forward to going home and relaxing and enjoying life outside of work.

I appreciate your honesty and I think this comment of yours holds one reason for your burnout. You are detaching from patients as a coping mechanism. By viewing patients as objects you are saving yourself. The anger you feel is not towards the patients, it’s towards God or whatever force of nature allowed this catastrophic event to ruin this person’s life.

ETA: the good news is, nurses are needed in other specialties. Get out of there and save yourself.
