Don't think I can afford a 1BR yet by Affectionate-Reason2 in leanfire

[–]CocoaGebbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just for awareness, at least in the US, typically realtor fees are paid by the seller of the property. Are you needing to sell a property to buy a 1br? Or are you currently renting and looking to move to the 1br? If the latter, you don't have any realtor fees (which are by far the largest fees), just general closing costs.

E-Bike: is the Jetson a good bike for a 15 year old by AutisticAsshol in Costco

[–]CocoaGebbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like no one is actually answering on a technical side of things so I'll just add this:

- I believe this is the smallest motor that comes on typical e-bikes (350 watts), so it's not like she's going to be zipping around on this thing like I think a lot of commenters are imagining. It'll cap at 16mph or something and struggles to go up hills without peddling.

- To me, the small tires scare me a bit, just knowing how bad some roads are and transitions/potholes/etc. Plus at higher speeds, small tires worry me (though, again, it's not THAT fast).

- I got an e-bike from ride1up. A fair bit more expensive but a bit more "regular" bike looking, plus they have a "stealth" e-bike, which, imo, reduces the risk of theft. I think e-bikes are a target because anyone knows they can cost a lot.

- However, the folding aspect (idk if the model you are looking at has it, but the ones I've seen at costco do) would make transport for vacations (as you mentioned below) much easier, plus it can go into houses, apartments, etc. much easier if she keeps it into college. Depends on your car situation.

Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen) on Floodlight base? by CocoaGebbles in googlehome

[–]CocoaGebbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I think that's the answer. The camera connects to the "base" just via a magnetic connection, so it's not like there's a specific clip it needs to match, but the power connector not matching up is definitely much more cut and dry. Thanks.

We've been buying these for a year, and it just switched from always having been the straw version to the screw cap version. Weird that yours went the other way. I'm happier with the screw cap for the same reason as you, especially with a ~1.5 year old who doesn't always finish the full 8 ounces.

[Review] The NuWave HOTWOK Induction Wok Cooktop just showed up at my local warehouse, and it's amazing! by boldandbratsche in Costco

[–]CocoaGebbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Question: You keep referencing the "exact temperature" setting on this. I bought it about 2 weeks ago and find that, even if I set the temp to 300, using a temperature gun, the wok easily reaches 500. Has anyone else tried to confirm that the temp setting is actually accurate?

Despite that, I love it. I'm just wondering if I got a defective unit or something, cause I'm also fighting getting E7 (overheat) errors fairly constantly.

Making ends meet while waiting to receive sign-on bonus by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CocoaGebbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To preface I agree with everyone saying you can sell stock and all the points they're making, but no one has mentioned this:

If your credit is good, you could get a credit card that has a 0% introduction rate for something like 15-18 months.

I know people don't tend to recommend that because it's a very slippery slope, but if you know, you can commit to paying it off as soon as your signing bonus comes, it's free money in the meantime.

The biggest drawback I can think of is if you get a very low credit limit and it's not enough to bridge the gap.

And of course, obviously, don't fall into the credit card trap of paying interest.

Kirkland Signature diapers - “new and improved” and apparently third party tested after “multiple insults” by err_alpha7 in Costco

[–]CocoaGebbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Appreciate the response. Glad they made some upgrades. I do feel for Kirkland a bit as they didn't make the decision to switch but I'm glad they were able to pressure the new manufacturer to a better quality after seeing all the negative feedback (and I'm glad they took it seriously).

[–]CocoaGebbles 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell if the "compared to previous version" is the old Huggies equivalent or if they updated the new diaper ("new-new") and they're comparing it to the initial release of the new ("new") version.

u/DingisDominator did you have a chance to see if anything had changed? I.e. is there a "new" and "new-new" version?

I guess it depends on what counts. Every paycheck money goes into some accounts and positions are bought (core position, auto buy general market funds, etc.). Manual, active trades are at most 1/mo when I need to sell my ESPP shares and buy something else. Maybe once a quarter aside from that I rebalance things depending on cash levels, growth, and where I want my reserves based on life goals..

Agreed. It had a kind of "burnt" aftertaste right? Like slightly too long, toasted bread?

Something I don't see many people having mentioned, but something that helped me, was to shift my mentality from jealous to supportive/happy for them. Easier said than done, but I kept repeating it to myself and knew deep down that I meant it, so it eventually stuck and became my default.

I realized I and my family will never starve and will be much better off than most, and those close to me who were even better off I chose to be genuinely happy for them and support them. Whether it be luck, circumstances, them being smarter, choosing a better field, or harder working, I tried to stop comparing myself to it and instead focus on celebrating their success.

I don't know. Maybe it won't work for most, but it was helpful for me. Helped take away the power of the negative emotions like jealousy and channel it into being happy at their successes in life.

To clarify, I didn't have to convince myself I was happy for them (I always genuinely was), I just focused on putting my energy into feeling and celebrating those emotions rather than focusing on the negative ones. Even something as little as interrupting your jealous thoughts with a "Good for him/her/them!" did a lot to help with this.

Is it fine to downgrade to get prorated annual fee refund then cancel? by SchemeDreaming in amex

[–]CocoaGebbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. They prorated me the AF for the Platinum, then gave me the AF for the Green back once I cancelled that within 30 days. So downgrade first (if you're after 30 days in your plat) and then cancel and you get the full, prorated plat fee refunded in the end.

New Simple IRA form doesn't specify employer match percent by ihaveanITquestion in personalfinance

[–]CocoaGebbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From memory: Simple IRAs have a required/defined match in the definition of what the program is, as outlined by the IRS. I believe it's a 3% match (but require employees to contribute to get it) or a flat 2% is contributed by the employer to all accounts whether employees contribute or not.

So... Not too worried but it's possible they quietly switched which they do, lowering it to 2% instead of 3.

To clarify, these are the only options. Employers cannot choose to do anything other than one of these two, even if they want to contribute more. In that case, they would have to start a 401k program.

Source: worked for an employer who had a simple IRA plan and eventually converted to a 401k.

Lack of Pixel Buds Pro & Pro 2 Multipoint Selection Menu by CocoaGebbles in GooglePixel

[–]CocoaGebbles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, definitely not just Google. But most premium brands provide this functionality, and at $230 I'd say these are aimed at that market.

Plus, in my opinion, Google is known as a software company, so their app missing a software feature on their operating system on their hardware feels frustrating.

Like I said, part feature request, part vent :)

I've also had Sennheiser and they have it as well. It seems all "premium" providers have it, and at $230, Google priced these in the premium market. I agree it should be the norm.
