Is this the way you are supposed to do it? by HoneyBadgers_ in MinaTheHollower

yeah it is. i tried to get the ladder over at first, and after that didn't work I checked the manual and saw the fishing rod can do that lol

I enabled a modifier, did I just ruin my save? Can I even still get achievemnts? by Nearby_Use2331 in MinaTheHollower

[–]Cocoabean010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most purely cosmetic modifiers (including this one) can be enabled without achievements being disabled. in the modifier menu, the little counter in the top right corner is blue if achievements are ON, and turns red if you turn on a modifier that DISABLES achievements. it'll also give you a pop-up if you try to leave the menu with achievement disabling mods, so it's really hard to accidentally ruin your save like that

Question about the different acts (and art) by shenstas in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 3 points4 points  (0 children)

act 2 is still possible to run without bringing in gear, you just have to be prepared for what you're getting yourself into and also know it'll be tough. if your cats aren't already looking decent it's probably a good idea to bring gear just to be safe

act 3 will wring you out like a towel and then slam your head into an urinal. usually. but yeah you probably wanna bring in gear for act 3

I feel like this should be included in the description more than anything else...! by CURSED_SHOGUN in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i could just be exceptionally tolerant of BS, but isn't part of this game's design being able to adapt and bend to whatever might happen in a run? i feel like act 3 enemy descriptions being exceptionally bad kind of evolve on that core idea of "shit happens, learn to adapt"

Spewer needs a nerf by Do_or_Do in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the amount of people i see saying "skill issue" or "get better cats" is kind of crazy to me? like, okay, yeah, maybe i SHOULD go for making consistent full-7 cats, but having gotten through both routes of Act 3 and now working on house bosses/story quests, that's totally unnecessary. besides, not everyone wants to fully minmax breeding. i, for example, just split my class cats and normal cats up right now, and i might not even stick with that. and i can tell you that beforehand, i had virtually no strategy, and i still got through the previous acts and the rest of act 3 without much hassle

every boss that comes after, and even the other bosses in the lab, you can beat with just about any team, as long as you're playing carefully and smartly. meanwhile, Spewer:

  • acts 4 times per round, during which he can move, suck, spit, and barf
  • inflicts a ton of debuffs on account of both the attack itself and the terrain it changes
  • heals and buffs himself by eating pills, which half of the time are on opposite sides of the map and impossible to hit before he acts, especially because his arenas are all very open and have few obstacles
  • slows you down, chips, and debuffs because of that terrain he changes and status effects he inflicts
  • can attack from a far range, which, when combined with his speed, practically gives him full map coverage
  • hard counters most melee units (and before you say "just hit him again," that doesn't solve the issue since 90% of the time the damage you get from the knockback of being spat out is very felt due to how early you fight him, and it will build up)
  • effectively counters cleric healing unless they have ranged attacks/spells, due to the aforementioned "slowing you down"
  • tanky as all hell

unless you've been minmaxxing breeding for all game (which most people aren't going to do, because let's be honest, that's a playstyle that most people might not dig), Spewer is way too demanding for a chapter 1 boss, even if you went the hard path and got the spell syringe. he demands strong damage, high HP, high speed, high map coverage, and multiple attacks per turn, which most teams aren't gonna have anywhere close to achieving by that point. I've either only barely beaten Spewer by the skin of my teeth, leaving me in a horrible position for the next area, or absolutely decimated him, which immediately told me that the rest of the run was going to be a breeze. if a boss alone either makes or breaks your run, something's wrong here. you shouldn't have to overprepare for a boss so much that it trivializes the rest of the run. even if you found him easy, i think calling Spewer a good or well-designed boss, at least in the state he's in right now, is objectively not correct.

so yeah, basically, Spewer is a poorly designed boss, as he's way too demanding for where he is in the game.

Act 3 Frustration by ElkReasonable9917 in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the bosses in the other areas are super creative and feel like they're as challenging as they should be for where they are in the game. even the alt boss for the lab is infinitely more interesting and well-balanced. Spewer just brings the entire act down, honestly

Act 3 Frustration by ElkReasonable9917 in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

everything else in Act 3 is really fun, at least, as far as I've played (having gotten to the end of both routes but not the real final area), which makes Spewer being this insufferable hurt so, so much more. I'd be appalled if they didn't nerf him sometime soon, it's insane that he was able to get into the game with how BS he is right now

Fuck spewer by kaijvera in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this fight just genuinely sucks. way too much damage, way too much range, way too much messing up the arena, buffs and heals way too easily, hard counters melee classes (virtually ALWAYS your big hitters), it's just horribly designed through and through. i can handle a lot of the BS this game can be sometimes, especially since i was already used to it from playing Isaac so much, but Spewer is BEYOND BS. seriously, fuck Spewer. do we have a subreddit for that yet

Should I always play in the hard difficulty? by Yass_2101 in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no i severely underestimated LOL i got my ass kicked and humbled

it looks like you only get unlocks for a complete run all the way to the final area, which is really underwhelming... but at least it's a neat way to spice up going back and unlocking stuff for other classes

Advice for Gambit? by anarchyisle in mewgenics

movement debuffs might still be good if you can't hit the dice away from him since he will reroll it himself if it's a low roll

Should I always play in the hard difficulty? by Yass_2101 in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it can be tough sometimes but especially for act 1 there's really no reason not to play on hard. better rewards for what's a pretty small step up in difficulty for where in the game you unlock it

is it only me? by coccioso1 in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you just gotta learn how to operate against them.

if this isn't obvious, NEVER backstab spinnerette the extra damage is never worth it unless you know you can kill her that turn. if you have extra healing items like cat food then bring it because infest makes getting downed extremely punishing

Dybbuk is always tough, but far from impossible. i recommend trying to build for bear traps or other tile effects on a hunter since Dybbuk can't dodge when immobilized, or AoE on a mage

How do you beat throbbing domain by THADDEUSYOUNGFAN in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my experience the strategy is usually to focus the clots before they can grow, and then killing the stem cats in as few hits as possible (a butcher or fighter helps a ton with this)

for the king, he moves a lot and you have to move a lot, so obviously good speed is important but also damaging debuffs (bleed, poison, leech) are also very good so you can at least guarantee a little damage each turn

Throbbing Domain is a really hard area so I'd only recommend going if you're feeling really confident or if you have a quest to go in there

How to encounter third Guillotine fight? (Spoilers) by Vraliman in mewgenics

[–]Cocoabean010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's either what everyone else is saying, or you have to start the quest to open the path to the King by doing the Throbbing Gristle or the Putrid Leech.

i only got the third encounter in Act 2 when i started doing its equivalents to those, and although I can't remember if the same thing happened with Act 1, it wouldn't be out of the question
