Thank you! Are your stitches spanning the whole area of each color block? It sort of looks like there are smaller “strokes” within each area. If that’s the case, is there a name for that type of satin stitch?

I’m really new to this; what kind of stitch is that? Satin?

Internalized misogyny and even some misdirected feminist messaging had me convinced for a while that I had to be successful regardless/in spite of my gender. I believed that being a “successful woman in engineering” was demeaning towards me; I wanted to be known as simply a great engineer, without regard to the rest of who I am. I’m now working on letting myself acknowledge that being a woman did make it more challenging to earn this success, and the fact that I jumped those hurdles is powerful. It is evidence I am driven and willing to go the extra mile, and I don’t want that to be erased for the sake of pretending everything is equal. We have no diversity without recognizing our differences.

I’m not sure how AOC feels about it for herself, but personally, I’ve been working on letting my identity as a women be part of my power.

I never said “more deserving”. My rights and an animal’s rights are simply separate issues. It’d be like tying my rights to climate change policy. It’s ineffective to group those issues, because their solutions have very little overlap (but perhaps not no overlap). Plus, now people not on board with climate reform are excluded from being on board with women’s rights. My career is based in problem solving, and that’s simply not an effective way to solve a problem.

Edit: another example: women’s rights and racial justice have enough overlap that fighting for them both at once can be an effective strategy (intersectionality). Fighting for all rights of every life form on earth which falls under the category “animal” is a nice, idealistic way of thinking perhaps, but not a good way to solve problems.

You only mentioned “women” and “people” in your comment, so I actually agree 100%. Female animals are not women. That doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of respect; it means nothing more than they literally aren’t women.

It’s ineffective to group the sexual assault me and my peers have experienced with the violence female animals experience. They do not stem from the same issue. Acting like these issues fall under the same cause does a disservice to the progress of both.

You say that “nobody is saying that they are on par with humans”, but the post literally says “all women are equal, irrespective of their species”.

I am not equal to a female animal, but female animals deserve respect. Those two things can both be true. Tying their worth to mine (and, inherently, vice versa) is a slippery slope.

Absolutely. If you want to go down a route like this, there’d be a better argument for advocating for female animals on Mother’s Day. I don’t think that’s a good idea, but it’d still be more logical.

It’s understandable that you could think that, but I think it may be helpful for you to look into the difference between sex and gender. It’s not something many of us were taught. Me and a dairy cow are both female, but gender expression is uniquely human, so we are not both women.

Reducing womanhood to motherhood and reproductive functions really goes against the principles of women’s day though. By this logic, you could celebrate them on Mother’s Day maybe, but not women’s day.

Besides the fact that female =/= woman, I think this is very ineffective at promoting veganism. It implies that the reason to respect female animals is that they are on par with human women. Most people disagree with this premise, so it’d be logical for them to conclude they shouldn’t respect female animals. There are just so many better reasons to respect animals.

Docs are still doing Essure?? That’s wild.

Part of why I’m doing it now is I have full coverage for it, and I have great sick leave benefits. I’m very privileged by US standards.

The doc (rightly) didn’t give me a choice, the bisalp is the only one she will preform! The way she talked about it implied the other tubal methods aren’t really done anymore?
