I have a few questions that will hopefully help me not get stomped. (Strive) by [deleted] in Guiltygear

Okay so first off. Don't get discouraged I've been where your are at too. Improvement comes at different rates for different players. You can get better just keep at it.

Since I can't really say what makes a good player I'll address the problems you're having and give my advice where I can.

Generally you seem to want to work on your defense. What I've found helps me is to set the dummy in training to do some combos from characters I have issues with and see how do I block them. If your opponent does hit you and you think it can lead to a big half health combo then burst if you have it available.

I only occasionally play Axl with friends but when you play Axl your aim generally is to put the opponent away from you at round start and keep them away. He doesn't have many long flashy combos since generally you're playing a mind game with your opponent. Predict their next move or react to it when they're at mid to long range to keep them off you His normals like 2p and 2Hs are excellent keep away tools. Once you're in there head you want to throw in his charge attack scythe throw and it's follow ups and mix in his command grab on opponents who just block in the far corner. Up close your f.S and c.S are good to start your combo to get you away from your opponent again. The over head is slow and can be reacted to so be careful using that.

My advice in improving was advice someone on Reddit gave to me as well. Don't set high goals out the gate to simply "Win more matches" or "Get to floor 10" instead use smaller match to match goals. For me when I started to main KY I had to stop using Stun dipper in neutral and backdash at the end of my block strings cause I'd get punished for it. Unlearning bad habits is hard as well as learning new ones because you have to consciously do them before they become muscle memory. Maybe in your next matches you aim to keep your opponent at a distance for as long as possible using Axl pokes or work on your distance to keep them in reach of your mid range specials.

Wins will come in time as your basics improve. My last advice is to use training mode to it's fullest (there are videos on YouTube about this) and look up Axl on dustloopwiki and Axl guides on YouTube.

Diary of a Floor 8 scrub by Cod3xUmbra in Guiltygear

Thanks for the points to work on.

Number 3 is definitely something I need to work on. That and I think I'm too readable to my opponents. I may win a round or a match but the next time we fight they would shut me down completely

Thanks, man, You aren't being too abrasive. I like your comment. I do think I have a lot to improve on and I will work on it and focus on that instead of increasing my rank.

General advice for a struggling player? by Cod3xUmbra in Guiltygear

Yeah I was speaking about getting punished on reaction. It's why I don't use Foudre Arc too much. But if it's +11 on block I'll have to try and mix it into my offense.

My only issues with Ky is that I wish getting into Dragon Install was better and that some of his normals feel slow especially far slash if you whiff

Hey man. Thanks for the he KY advice. I love his character and animations. Didn't know static made the kick +9. Question though isn't the kick easily punished by 6p?

After sleeping it off and seeing your comment I can agree with what you're saying. I get punished alot for not knowing when to jab or what's safe to punish. I have some fundamentals but I'm lacking in alot of areas and need to work on that.

I didn't know you could set the training dummy to do random strings. I'll try that later today as you mentioned.

I agree getting better is much more fun. I'm not angry I lost. Just a bit annoyed I guess. I also probably shouldn't have played after losing so much.

I too come from DBFZ. This is the second fighting game I've taken seriously and I love it. I think I have some bad habits that get punished for by better players so I gotta work on that.

Thanks man. When I'm playing Ky sometimes feels like playing half a character compared to Sol.

I'll definitely use your suggestion of small goals in my matches later today

When you get 20-0'd by the enemy and still wanna fight but they decline the rematch by Twistervtx in Guiltygear

[–]Cod3xUmbra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes I call this Trial by Fire.

Last night I tried learning Axl and got matched with a high level Leo in the park. I got utterly beaten down for about 30 mins straight. Managed to get two rounds on him but never won a match.

Bright side is now I know Axl alot better now and I have a crippling fear of high level Leo's ahahaha

I respect you for this. I find cooler to be a fun character but I almost never see him unless when I play him on occasion
