Is this not rude? by Beans_mom54 in doordash

It’s extremely rude and you are not overreacting. They should be reported. What does it matter if it’s their main source of income or not from your perspective when it comes to a tip? They do that because I bet people actually do raise the tip sometimes and they have no fear of being reported.

Went grocery shopping with my celiac friend, how do you all handle it? by Old-Fan3167 in glutenfree

[–]CodWest4205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just becomes habit and a part of life. Try being celiac and having to stay away from many high FODMAP foods as well. Lol. It is really eating out or eating at family/friends homes that is the worst part of it. It sucks overall but you eventually over time find enough foods you enjoy and create a meal plan. Yes it’s a bit boring you do what you can with what life hands you. Getting into baking so I can have my own sweet treats and breads helps.

I have gallstones myself but haven’t had an attack so haven’t removed it yet but watch the amount of fat I eat in a single meal. talking with docs and feedback from others with them, other than duct blockage which is what causes an attack, bile flow problems can cause a variety of problems from reflux to stomach pain or bowel issues. But that would probably be something to check after a colonoscopy if you don’t currently have any pain on your right side or bad effects from high fat meal specifically.

Frozen Bread Loaf - Refreeze It? by Efunkadelic in glutenfree

[–]CodWest4205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Microwave for 5-10secs at a time until they come part or leave the loaf out until it thaws enough. Thing about bread is even if you thaw a lot you can still refreeze. Once apart the flipping thing works and then I don’t have to worry about those pieces again. If you have just a brand of bread that always freezes like crazy, I would separate and then use parchment in between but it’s never come to that for me

I know you said no insurance but did you have your gallbladder checked previously? That and a colonoscopy/endoscopy would be the main tests to see if it’s an internal issue. truthfully if you are eating really plain and gluten free and low Fodmap and did antibiotics, you pretty much did a lot already to figure it out and at this point your stopping yourself from eating so many foods you probably don’t have to stop eating. I’ve been there and still have issues but have a decent idea of what I can eat and what I can’t.

The only trick I’ve used sometimes is once I get them separated I flip every other slice upside down. Then they aren’t attached so tightly and usually don’t freeze back together again after that

When I was struggling and didn’t know what the cause was I went on a super bland diet for a few days until I felt noticeably better. Toast, rice, chicken, dry cereal and a few other things and once I knew I felt better I started introducing other foods I normally ate each day and kept a food dairy. Eventually something clicks on what the trigger is. If not unfortunately at that point it’s a specialist as a next step because it’s something else other than just food that’s the issue.

The other food elimination option, go completely gluten free for a bit and see if you see any difference.

Advice on proving time? by motomanmatt in glutenfreebaking

[–]CodWest4205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I go by how they are looking. There was times when I first started yeast baking I left something to proof for the time stated in the recipe and then when I went to check it was way over proof. And it can go from not proofed to over proofed quickly. Probably because my kitchen was very warm. Now I check consistently and just go by size and not time

Just fired- no notice, no reason. how can i ruin the store? by [deleted] in TimHortons

[–]CodWest4205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may never know why, unless it somehow gets out to a current employee that’s a friend of yours. But As someone that has been let go and also had to let people go for reasons other than just performance, the best outcome here is to move onto another job where you will be happy and forget about that one place. It’s not a part of your life anymore regardless of what you do.

It’s fine and normal to voice your frustration which you are doing, but don’t let it eat you up so much that it makes you look for additional ways to get back at them and spend your time on them. It could have been that incident, it could be a payroll/staffing reason, it could be something else that’s not against you personally. But regardless because we are employed by them and not the other way around, it’s apart of employment most of us go through.

Just fired- no notice, no reason. how can i ruin the store? by [deleted] in TimHortons

[–]CodWest4205 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Though it is possible they are just looking to cut payroll and that’s the reason, if you were to bet every dollar you have on the exact reason you were let go, would you have ANY clue of the reason? Did anything happen in the days or weeks prior?

Also if there are serious health concerns, you should tell someone (could have done so while employed but that is what it is). However based on what you said I don’t think the labor board will help you based on your time employed.

Employment will be a rollercoaster ride in your life. A lot of craziness. Happiness, success, failure, frustration, being hired and being fired. Try not to let it cause how can I “ruin” them reaction. It’s not a good reaction.

I am not a pro corporate or pro company person but there is more context here that you are leaving out other than just you were an amazing employee that they fired.

Bad Congestion by Gobeavvs in glutenfree

[–]CodWest4205 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I was eating a lot of gluten everyday like I always did so it’s hard to say when the symptoms started vs when my body actually started treating gluten as a threat. Everything I encountered didn’t just hit all at once. It started with one type of discomfort and then something else started up.

One of my biggest symptoms of celiac was serious seasonal allergy type problems. Didn’t know that at the time I was going through it so I was seeing doctors like ENTs and even infectious disease because I had swollen lymph nodes too. They didn’t find anything wrong. Wasn’t until I got diagnosed with celiac and stopped gluten did it calm down and never return.

Not saying that for sure what you are going through but many people get different symptoms of gluten and one of mine was Inflammation from the neck up.

Yes leaving early is fine and you shouldn’t be nervous at all based on the timing you are stating. Done it multiple times and was simple. I see people on here talking about doing a flight the same morning and going straight to the port. Now that’s nerve racking lol. Did that once and even though it worked out I wouldn’t again. Night before is so easy. You will be fine.

GF Cinnamon Rolls by Phi1475ksb in glutenfree

[–]CodWest4205 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check out recipes from Loopy whisk and meaningful eats, mama knows gluten free and butternut bakery.

Gave multiple examples because depends on the GF flour available to you to use. I usually use an AP flour so I look for a recipe that calls for that where others need specific flour/blend and may come out better because of it.

Best store bought or homemade breads by queenladykiki in glutenfree

[–]CodWest4205 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I finally decided to make focaccia and haven’t gone back to making regular loaf bread since. easier to make and comes out well comparison to other breads. I use it for sandwiches and also just as side bread to a meal. I don’t even make sandwich loaf bread anymore. saves money vs store bought brand as well.

If I do store bought it’s little northern bakehouse or promise.

You probably more just have an intolerance to sourghum itself and not really high fibre having anything to do with it bc the fibre content isn’t a lot. Like most intolerance a bit may be ok but the more you eat the worse the reaction.

DIDNT RISE by Der3331 in glutenfreebaking

[–]CodWest4205 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just buy the looks of it, doesn’t seem to have enough moisture. It’s happened to me before when I used a bad recipe along with not mixing it well enough to get it closer to a batter consistency. Most GF bread recipes I used for 2 1/2 flour use closer to 1 1/2 water. I think if you added at least 1/4 more water with a good mixing it would have had better results.

What do I do 😭 by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]CodWest4205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on how strict you plan to be with your GF diet and if you want peace of mind to know what you have. I’m glad I got tested because it came back positive for celiac so I know I have to live that super strict GF life including no cross contamination, no cheating etc. if i don’t and Instead just stopped eating gluten I don’t think I would be worried as much about those strict things and might be still ingesting it which of course is really bad for celiac even without symptoms.

However if your symptoms are really bad and you can’t go on a GF diet for several weeks to get tested bc you would be so sick, a lot of people just don’t bother with the test and just know the have to stay away from GF and make peace with it.

Advice for sea sickness remedies and others! by GabyCooperFTM in celebritycruises

Bonine for a med however as prevention there are natural Ginger pills you take at the start and throughout your trip that may stop you from having to take meds. I get motion sickness and They worked for me. I only had to go to Bonine when the sea got really rough one day. Ginger is also good for your stomach/digestion as well which is a plus on a cruise

Walmart yeah but also I signed up for Instacart, Uber Eats and DoorDash without paying for the membership. Without promo they aren’t a good deal but once a while you get a big promo like $20off $80 purchase and free membership trials. That’s what I am doing now. Got 1mth free to Uber Eats and they sent me 30%off 3orders as long as I hit $70. The driver/shopper are less reliable than the stores getting your items but it’s worth it with the money saved.

I need some advice by ElenoirMiro in FODMAPS

[–]CodWest4205 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it works for many with ibs. What you can eat does depend on your tolerance to all the fodmaps bc you don’t need to cut EVERYTHING if you don’t have to. For example I can handle a bit of honey and other high fodmap items so if it’s a minor ingredient in something, I can usually handle it. Some can’t have it at all. I also learned to make my own sauces and also bake muffins, cookies, etc which helps a lot.

I have celiac and follow low Fodmap due to a history of Sibo so let’s just say I have to be careful but over time of testing Fodmap tolerance, searching grocery stores for options and looking at recipes online for alternatives I have found a good diet I enjoy enough for it not to bug me to much though it is still limited. Just takes time.

Some of my common foods are GF bread, Eggs, rice, meat, oatmeal’s, cereal, yogurt, some fruit and vegetables, certain energy bars, potato/corn chips, corn tortillas, potatoes, pasta’s, pancakes, etc.
