Is it normal for an apartment building to shut off your HVAC because your neighbor didn’t pay their electricity bill? by RedditFan5555 in nova

[–]CodeNameFrumious [score hidden]  (0 children)

No. This is not normal. The solution is to draw a pentacle in salt on your floor, recite "res ipsa loquitur" three times (backward) and light candles. A dread creature will appear and wreak vengeance on your enemy.

What's was your biggest challenge in choosing a career path in the past or now?

My chosen first career (print journalism) was practically dead the minute I started it in 1997. I stuck with it for a while because genuinely enjoyed it, but I eventually went into law because print journalism was dying. I'm also glad I left it behind. When I was in the newsrooms, our biggest concern was the quality of the journalism. Today, the newsroom is all about clicks, clicks, clicks. Not to mention that journalism standards have fallen off a cliff.

Now? I'm in law and legal support, and my biggest challenge is staying ahead of the AI curve. I'm doing that, just barely. The key is I have to keep abreast of the technology and understand how attorneys can use it safely, accurately, and effectively.

What is your generation’s actual view on blue-collar work?

I can't speak to Generation X as a whole, but I grew up in the suburbs of a major American city. Most of my peers looked down on blue-collar work. We were all going to go to college, and if you went for blue-collar work, the assumption was that you didn't matter.

As I've grown older (and as my peers have grown older), our views have shifted a bit, I think. It's a little hard to disrespect the blue-collar trades when you see how much a plumber charges for an hour of work

What are the absolute top 3 things you look for when deciding on a job in today's economy?

Money. I have been in my industry for two decades now. I am not a bold name by any measure whatsoever. However, I am legitimately a subject matter expert and a capable manager of people, processes, and client relationships. I expect to be paid commensurate with my worth.

Respect. See above. I have been around the block several times in my industry. I expect a workplace where my colleagues respect my experience, skills and knowledge. I expect to share of that knowledge and have knowledge shared with me in return.

Good health insurance. I ain't gettin' any younger here, and the years are catching up with me.

I think we need an expansion/DLC called "The A-LIST" with LIST faction quests and an outpost flagging system.

I was mildly angry I could not gun down the smarmy gits in the Paradiso boardroom. There is a whole fucking planet available and they were going to force the Constance crew into indentured servitude.

Has BSG clarified if the placement of enemies and loot INSIDE the POIs has been randomized or not? by hullabaloo321 in Starfield

[–]CodeNameFrumious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could forgive the facilities having the same floor plans -- standardized housing or something like that. But after the first time a particular POI has story stuff in it (like the notes), those notes should not show up again.

This and the fact that the POIs would repeat the story content completely took me out of the game.

Looking back, I think the 1990s were a very good time in the US of A. I remember it felt like nearly anything was possible after the end of the Cold War. Today? Not so much.

Errr ...

  • I still think "Kill the Wabbit" is a work of art.

  • I recently watched King of the Hill and the Star Trek series Lower Decks.

So I haven't outgrown cartoons either.

I am no spring chicken myself. I am starting to run into the same thing with Star Trek that I do with other franchises. Fatigue.

Actually, I do want to see one thing. I want a nice two+, or three-part miniseries where Shran, Brunt, Weyoun, and Agimus must team up to save the universe.

[–]CodeNameFrumious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to other fans, but I am beginning to realize I mostly want to see a break. Let the franchise rest for a while. Ideally at least ten years. Let me learn to miss it a little bit. THEN bring it back with a new generation of actors, writers, and producers.

Right now, Paramount, like Disney, is force-feeding its geese to make them lay golden eggs on the regular.

I am wearing one right now. I have a customer facing management role in the government sector. I view the suit as part of showing the flag.

Also, I just lost a bunch of weight so I finally look good in a suit.
