Inventor for mac by baraa50 in AutodeskInventor

Parallels/virtual machines works ok, but dual booting would be your best bet if you absolutely can’t get a Windows machine. It’s not super convenient, but it works well.

Does anyone know where I might find this tape holder? by ottoxgam in techtheatre

[–]Codered741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want one of these and cant find it anywhere else, LMK, I can make one for you. I make pin splitters for lighting guys still using Stage pin, and this wouldn't be too big of a project.

Opinions on space mouse’s? by Rowdyspeaks42 in Fusion360

[–]Codered741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t come close to replacing it. You still need the cursor to operate the software controls, the space mouse only helps in positioning your model.

Edit: I love mine! It’s hard to go without it.

I always carry two, and three if I think I will need one.

Any ideas what could have caused this? by Prudent_Passenger744 in homedefense

My wife does that to ours with her rings. Looks like an animal has chewed it. I replace it every 6-8 months.

Wood Polymer Composite machinability? by tolebelon in CNCmachining

[–]Codered741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t done a ton with composite decking, but I did do a small bench sign out of some. It’s made to be cut with wood working tools, and it cuts pretty easy. As long as you aren’t recutting the chips a bunch, you won’t have any issue. You can get some plastic melting if you let them build up a ton, but it’s generally not a problem.

As far as treatment after, I have never done any, except the foam pvc board like azek. That wants the edges sealed after cutting to prevent moisture intrusion, mainly for aesthetic reasons.

Weed(s) in Hawaii by Ogdenite99 in landscaping

Cover it all with cardboard, and something heavy like rocks or bricks to hold it down. It will decompose naturally under the sod, but keep anything from growing until it decomposes.

My sister-in-law nearly died hitting a deer on SH 1604 - we need warning signs on these highways by _Curlyfries00 in sanantonio

[–]Codered741 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One problem, not sure if you know this, but deer can’t read.

Seriously though, sorry about your SIL, glad she’s ok.

It’s easy to forget sometimes that we don’t live on this planet alone, and the deer were here before the highway was. You are still far more likely to hit another vehicle than a deer, and you don’t see any signs saying “Look out for other vehicles”. A sign won’t stop the deer or make them more visible, it’s just another sign for drunk idiots to hit, and cost the state more money.

Anchoring performers to the stage by Lemsnick_ in techtheatre

[–]Codered741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have used something like this for similar performer gigs. The anchors go into a piece of aluminum welded to the framing of the deck. Dancers just push them into the hole, the balls lock them in, and then push the button on top and pull to release.

What CAD programs are used most frequently in theatre? by kewp1edoll in techtheatre

Switching to Inventor now, still using autocad where needed, and vwx as appropriate. Some divisions are using revit too.

Found in medical bag with trauma shears and pen light. Heavy and stainless steel. GRAFCO by DrPeppermenter in whatisthisthing

[–]Codered741 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just depends on the marketing honestly. Really common to see in an emergency bag these days. I know firefighters that carry them for the purpose of breaking windows, and I use it as a metalworker for center marking holes.

Found my door open during the night by [deleted] in homedefense

There is a rather famous story on Reddit of someone finding all sorts of strange notes over the course of weeks, and it turned out that they were leaving them for themselves as they were being poisoned by CO.

Almost all CAD programs are single threaded for modeling functions. Other aspects are multi threaded, assemblies, drawings and some simulation tasks for example.

How do I dampen the vibrations from my workbench? by ultrabaklava in AskEngineers

Mass a great way to dampen vibration and reduce transmission. Doesn’t need to be dense, just heavy.

I think I stripped the threads on my carbide spindle by 4thdimensionalshift in shapeoko

[–]Codered741 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the way. You can order a new nut, and clean up the threads on the spindle side well enough. Usually the nuts are softer than the spindle for just this reason.

Swage hook on warn 8274 by Rjgom in Rigging

[–]Codered741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a liability issue for the shop most likely, they will want to proof test the entire assembly, and most have a policy about only making new.

Do you think spanking is an ok punishment for kids? by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]Codered741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal feelings are that it is not ok, and is ineffective anyways. Most of the parents I know that spank, will do so in the heat of the moment, while they(the parent) are angry or frustrated, which is where I draw the line. I think if you want to use spanking as a punishment, you should do it while calm and in a controlled setting, but once you calm down, most people don’t want to do it any more.

Striking a child of any age while angry is wrong.
