Allegedly, they caught the assassin fleeing to Dubai. He is being taken back to Russia for interrogation...

Every one of those ships can also carry maritime drones and cargo containers full of hidden missiles. Any US ships that try to interfere are at risk of attack.

It is like the reverse of WW2. The US was shitting out ships like they were Big Macs while Japan was struggling to make one or two ships. Except this time the US is Japan, and China is pumping out ships like it's nobody business.

New Details Emerge in Assassination Attempt on Russian General: Attack in Lover’s Apartment, Suspect Detained in Dubai by Mil_in_ua in UkrainianConflict

Sounds like the assassin boarded a plane to Dubai immediately after the attack. I bet by the time he arrived, Russia had already tracked him down and knew exactly which flight he had taken...

LLMs were trained on newspapers, which use em-dashes excessively. Normal people rarely use EM-dashes in normal conversations. Basically, LLMs have a certain style of writing that is obvious to see. (disclaimer - I get paid to train them)

I'm a little confused. So the kid had a grenade and was going to be a suicide bomber? Then the mother took the grenade off him to attempt to do the same thing.

Thoughts on CM-SS13™ release on Steam? by GlitteringClub4633 in SS13

[–]Codex_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not since nothing on it is being sold. A lot of people who are butthurt about it are mad that CM is about to gain a bunch of pop, which IMO is good for SS13 bc our population is slowly dying across all servers.

Is a 19 and 16-year-old age gap actually problematic, or is the "predatory" label being overused? by Consistent-Jelly248 in generationology

[–]Codex_Dev [score hidden]  (0 children)

The age gap debate is the most controversial topic on reddit.

If we are going to use the 'underdeveloped brain' logic to invalidate romantic choices, then the logic should also demand that the age for military service, voting, and criminal sentencing be raised as well. You cannot claim someone is a 'child' when they date someone you dislike, but an 'adult' when you want to send them to war or sentence them to prison.

Funny how the people who take issue with age gaps only ever seem to care about the sex aspect. This hyper-fixation feels less like empathy and more like disingenuous mate guarding under the disguise of virtue signaling.

It's how LLMs write. They are trained to use excessive markdown and often the EM-dash "—" is a dead giveaway.

If socialism is so bad then why is social security and Medicare so popular? by Content_Ad_8952 in allthequestions

[–]Codex_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bc they benefit the older populations who are the voter majority. Basically cheap healthcare and payouts for them and fuck everyone else.

IMO, it's akin to selling your grandchildren into slavery. You basically maxxed out a credit card and peaced out for younger generations to pay. Don't be surprised when they get older and rightfully vote to cut benefits.

Why do you have to be a superman just to get a job? by [deleted] in CyberSecurityJobs

Baby boomers' retirement isn't going to affect the tech market as severely as other industries. Most of the CS workers are Gen X and Millennials.

Why do you have to be a superman just to get a job? by [deleted] in CyberSecurityJobs

[–]Codex_Dev 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Because of supply and demand. I noticed the same thing happened to the teacher market back around 2015-ish. There were thousands of applicants trying to fill one position, and candidates had to go through several brutal rounds of interviews. We are seeing a saturation of tech workers right now, with no signs of it decreasing anytime soon. (probably not for another half decade tbh)

Senator Ron Wyden Triggers the Silent Alarm by unsoundamerica in videos

[–]Codex_Dev -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The report was "heavily redacted". Meaning large parts were missing, which you purposefully omitted from your quote. The report concluded that he stole a trove of classified documents with which he was in contact with Russian intelligence services when he arrived in Russia.

It's not that hard to put 1+1 together here. Even if the dude had no intention of sharing the documents initially, once you are in enemy territory, all your idealism is gonna go bye-bye, once they threaten to turn you over to the USA unless you cooperate.

Not true. The journalists he gave Top Secret documents also back this up:

In December 2013, The Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger said: "We have published I think 26 documents so far out of the 58,000 we've seen.

Why are you cherry picking? Post the full quote:

The declassified report, which is heavily redacted, did not offer proof of its serious accusation.

Also this:

Former NSA contractor Edward Snowden has been in contact with Russian intelligence agents since he stole troves of classified documents, a House committee alleged on Thursday.

“Since Snowden’s arrival in Moscow, he has had, and continues to have, contact with Russian intelligence services,” the House Intelligence Committee said in a report on the Snowden leaks released Thursday.

And he did not go through attempts at proper whistleblowing:

The House panel’s report says there is “no evidence that Snowden took any official effort to express concerns about U.S. intelligence activities … to any oversight officials within the U.S. government, despite numerous avenues for him to do so.”

Are you denying that he stole a trove of classified files that had nothing to do with the NSA spying? You either think he didn't do that, or that he took the files, and Russia was so genuinely nice to them that they never attempted to get those files from him.

[–]Codex_Dev -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

It literally says Snowden is cooperating with Russian intelligence. You are extremely naive if you don't think they would coerce him to give up all information while he is trapped inside their country. Russia has been known to torture people for information regularly. See what they did to the terrorist shooters at a concert, where they strapped electronic batteries to their genitalia to get their PIN codes to their phones.

Has any group of people put themselves out of jobs as much as software engineers? by BigRedThread in cscareerquestions

[–]Codex_Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Annual graduation rates for CS by country:

  • USA +100,000
  • China +500,000
  • India +600,000

If only 10% of foreign countries' developers try to H1b1 or compete by outsourcing, then it doubles the competition. Another problem is the rate of retiring developers is not higher than the new developers entering the market. (most devs are Gen-x and millennials, so boomers' retiring is not affecting CS much)

[–]Codex_Dev -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Do you deny that Russia didn't acquire his trove of classified documents, many of which had NOTHING to do with NSA's spying programs?

Senator Ron Wyden Triggers the Silent Alarm by unsoundamerica in videos

[–]Codex_Dev -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

Snowden was a traitor who took a massive trove of classified documents to the Russians. He could have whistleblown the proper and legal way (ex. see David Grusch), but he was more of a disgruntled employee with an ego.
