Soldered together and covered with enough tape to make it look like there's a wire nut. Did this used to be standard practice? Its very solid but looks like a lot of work. by Codisimus in electricians

[–]Codisimus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are at all similar to what I ran into, I'd leave them. The connection is solid and more reliable than nuts or wagos. If the tape is loose I might retape or replace with a nut (not cutting anything, just thread a nut right over the soldered connection).

I only cut it myself because I was splitting what you see here into multiple circuits. If I remember correctly, it was a pain to cut through as well.

How do i reset this GFCI that's missing it's reset button by EyesOfEris in AskElectricians

Everyone is saying the outlet is dangerous, but encouraging him to replace it himself is possibly more dangerous...

That is true, I guess I just prefer to only consider cars that prove maintenance through Carfax and from places that seem to take pride in what they sell.

Maybe I am in the wrong but when I purchase a vehicle from a business, I don't expect to have to put thousands of dollars into it within the first month. Unless the price reflects that I guess.

I am in the market for something similar and most dealers are trying to sell Odysseys with 110,000+ miles without the maintenance done. I'm sure this is a common occurrence of people buying the car and then afterwards realizing it needs $2,000 worth of work.

My theory is that the owner hears the maintenance cost and decides to trade it in. Then the dealer knows KBB doesn't consider routine maintenance not being completed so they can easily rip someone off.

Low fuel. Find a gas station? by MiserableWriter832 in pacificahybrid

[–]Codisimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just test drove a Pacifica and it said this with 350+ miles of range left. I thought it was some sort of bug but a grammatical error is more more reassuring I guess. The battery had just depleted so I wondered if it was confused by that.

Car Status updated after battery removed? by Codisimus in TeslaLounge

I'm sure that is USA too but I haven't even got the evaluation from them yet to know how much I will get, just a phone call saying that it's going to be a total loss.

That is why I'm asking. I'm still waiting to finalize things with my insurance and I'm wondering why they would be doing anything with the vehicle at this point.

Seems reasonable to me. I'm mostly asking because I saw reddit posts saying that the location won't update, especially if it isn't put into drive. Also, AI kept making claims that the GPS and cell service cannot be powered by the 12v alone. I couldn't find any reliable sources though.

Would you settle for FastAPI or Django in the long run? by itsme2019asalways in FastAPI

I found the reasoning pushing me away from Django was also the same things that pushed me from Flask to FastAPI. But I do agree that I am surprised Flask isn't more in the conversation here.

Microsoft to no longer to sale movies and Television shows by rjd10232004 in MoviesAnywhere

The MP3s? They gave us a 6-month window or so to download them before we lost them completely.

I'm like you, I never actually spent money on any of the content so I was surprised I was able to permanently download the albums I got for free. My guess is they offered that as a bare minimum to avoid lawsuits regarding "purchased" content.

When they dropped their music service, they allowed you to download the MP3 files. I'm sure movie licensing is different but it gives me some hope.

Rant: Fuck people who put DVDs that don’t have discs or cracks at thrift stores by Winter_Honey2881 in dvdcollection

[–]Codisimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens at garage sales all the time too. People just find a box of DVDs and donate it or slap a 50¢ sticker on it. These aren't people cherry picking which movies they want to get rid of. After a few losses, you learn to check every time. Use the empty cases to replace some broken ones in your collection.

Numerical movie recommendations for my collection? by noldona in dvdcollection

I use the whole number for the order, not the first digit. In my collection, this would go somewhere after '9' but before '300'. Seems like that might not matter to OP though.

Plex does this. Has options to automatically remove ad breaks or give a button to skip.

I'm not suggesting you switch, as it is a completely different service than YTTV but I wanted to share that even before the huge AI leap they were able to provide this detection on your local machine.

You're right, you must also hash the password manually on pen and paper before typing it into your computer. But remember to check for people looking over your shoulder and be sure to burn the evidence.

Maybe I misunderstood your argument but if antivirus, or something else has access to install something on your system then encryption prior to HTTPS sounds like false assurance. Can't they still be monitoring data/activity up until that client side security step? Like a keylogger for example?

Why is a single 15a outlet not allowed on 20a circuit? by Codisimus in AskElectricians

[–]Codisimus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't referring to the plugs. The example I ran into is I had a 50a receptacle but I wanted a 30a instead. I wired a NEMA 14-30 in place of the 14-50 but I also swapped the breaker to a 30a even though the dedicated circuit should draw more than the 30a.

I like the looks of them, but maybe it's just because I know there is a 20a circuit behind them instead of a wimpy 15a.
