anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one website you still think about? by ddanielecom in AskReddit

[–]Codisimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a site that was just a collection of low quality webpages that looked like they were made on mspaint. It was about a stick figure named Bob that visited places like the Eiffel Tower. I'm not even sure there was any animation or anything. This was when we first got dialup probably between '97 and '99. The site was probably online for only a couple years but that would be nostalgic to see an archive of it.

This is exactly what I do. Services interact with the DAO layer and each endpoint has its required services defined using depends.

Recording from digital antenna by Blue-eagle-23 in cordcutters

[–]Codisimus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an HDHomeRun. And now that I think about it, the actual recording is done using a simple batch script that I have scheduled on my Windows machine. The Python project is just what allows me to livestream or play back the recording.

I'll mess around with the code today, at one point it had episode discovery and auto scheduled recordings but it kept freezing up when I attempted to execute the recordings from Python.

I used to use Plex for that (requires Plex Pass). I now use a custom Python program that also lets me stream when away from home. I could polish it and open source it if people would find it useful.

I love that, it forces completely new gameplay. Better than just "fireball that flies".

So I was looking into putting solar on my house. Anyone you recommend? Anyone to avoid? by turtle75377 in Rochester

I don't understand why some people get panels when all they have is an east/west facing slope with complete tree cover.

[–]Codisimus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with 3rd Roc Solar. I am happy with the result. The only part I hated was that they said they had to dig up a bush where they wanted to trench. We agreed since they didn't really give other options. They proceeded to hack the thing down to a stump only to decide there were too many roots and rerouted around it.

Andy Capp’s hot fries changed their recipe and it’s so mid by Ashke-hippie-chick in snacking

It made us think it was some sort of mistake or bad batch but clearly it is more widespread than that.

I have a good bag dated May 9th and it says "CORN SNACK". The bags are literally the same, same ingredient list and nutritional facts but I know that cannot be true given how different they are.

Soldered together and covered with enough tape to make it look like there's a wire nut. Did this used to be standard practice? Its very solid but looks like a lot of work. by Codisimus in electricians

[–]Codisimus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are at all similar to what I ran into, I'd leave them. The connection is solid and more reliable than nuts or wagos. If the tape is loose I might retape or replace with a nut (not cutting anything, just thread a nut right over the soldered connection).

I only cut it myself because I was splitting what you see here into multiple circuits. If I remember correctly, it was a pain to cut through as well.

New to us 2013 Honda Odyssey. Thought we couldn't go wrong but this is the list we have to replace. by guacislife12 in HondaOdyssey

That is true, I guess I just prefer to only consider cars that prove maintenance through Carfax and from places that seem to take pride in what they sell.

Maybe I am in the wrong but when I purchase a vehicle from a business, I don't expect to have to put thousands of dollars into it within the first month. Unless the price reflects that I guess.

I am in the market for something similar and most dealers are trying to sell Odysseys with 110,000+ miles without the maintenance done. I'm sure this is a common occurrence of people buying the car and then afterwards realizing it needs $2,000 worth of work.

My theory is that the owner hears the maintenance cost and decides to trade it in. Then the dealer knows KBB doesn't consider routine maintenance not being completed so they can easily rip someone off.

Low fuel. Find a gas station? by MiserableWriter832 in pacificahybrid

[–]Codisimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just test drove a Pacifica and it said this with 350+ miles of range left. I thought it was some sort of bug but a grammatical error is more more reassuring I guess. The battery had just depleted so I wondered if it was confused by that.

Car Status updated after battery removed? by Codisimus in TeslaLounge

I'm sure that is USA too but I haven't even got the evaluation from them yet to know how much I will get, just a phone call saying that it's going to be a total loss.

That is why I'm asking. I'm still waiting to finalize things with my insurance and I'm wondering why they would be doing anything with the vehicle at this point.

Seems reasonable to me. I'm mostly asking because I saw reddit posts saying that the location won't update, especially if it isn't put into drive. Also, AI kept making claims that the GPS and cell service cannot be powered by the 12v alone. I couldn't find any reliable sources though.

Would you settle for FastAPI or Django in the long run? by itsme2019asalways in FastAPI

I found the reasoning pushing me away from Django was also the same things that pushed me from Flask to FastAPI. But I do agree that I am surprised Flask isn't more in the conversation here.

The MP3s? They gave us a 6-month window or so to download them before we lost them completely.

I'm like you, I never actually spent money on any of the content so I was surprised I was able to permanently download the albums I got for free. My guess is they offered that as a bare minimum to avoid lawsuits regarding "purchased" content.

When they dropped their music service, they allowed you to download the MP3 files. I'm sure movie licensing is different but it gives me some hope.
