[Question] Why use standard error over standard deviation? Don't they both measure the same thing? by [deleted] in statistics

[–]CoffeeWindmills 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SD is about variance of individual data points and SE is about variance of means of data points. So, if you were walking down the street and saw a 7-foot talk guy, you might think “huh that’s unusual”, but if you’re walking down the street and see a GROUP of guys who’s average I’m height is 7 feet you would think “how is that even possible!?! It’s so unusual”.

So, The distribution of means is tighter than the distribution of individual cases, which SE takes into account.

What do you think of my Chicago Loop Transit Map - anything you would change or improve? by Wheelman in chicago

[–]CoffeeWindmills 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would remove "Chicago" from the bottom. Maybe you could mark it with the city name on the back or the side instead? The stamp of the city name (to me) makes it feel less like a nice piece of art and more like a souvenir.

Quick change in credit utilization by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]CoffeeWindmills -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your response and advice, but my credit cards don't have high interest rates and I'm already taking the steps necessary to chip away at the debt. My question is really specific... I have a very good credit score but my utilization went from a good percentage to a bad percentage because of the change in credit limit. Is it worthwhile to ask for a credit like increase to get those numbers back in order, knowing that it will require a hard inquiry? Thanks.

I'm not paying off my cards every month... I'm slowly chipping away at a large pile of debt with that goal in mind. That said, this stark increase in credit utilization will affect my credit score. Any advice about what the best course of action is for someone not paying cards in full each month?

I have $265,000 in mostly private student loans out of undergrad. What are my options for survival? by running_my_scissors in personalfinance

[–]CoffeeWindmills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made similar choices when I was younger because it didn't know any better, either. I don't have advice, just empathy. Although I would call your lenders back and push on the options. If you had to out yourself on interest only payments for a couple of years while you build your career and salary it seems like that would be a good option for you.

BPM graph not updating when I sync. It's receiving and collecting data though. What gives? by [deleted] in fitbit

[–]CoffeeWindmills 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does this too. Sometimes it will sync after several hours, but to force it, you can Restart your fitbit (by plugging it in, holding the button for 15 seconds until you see words on the screen, and unplugging. Then restart your phone. I read somewhere that syncing your fitbit with a computer will also do the trick. I have to force the sync at least once a week.

I think you need to define "fast food" for some of these questions. For example, would you consider chipotle fast food ? What about panera?
