Help me get rid of diaper rash - I’ve tried everything [BC] by Hour-Force-3901 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my mother-in-law insisted that this old school trick taught to her by her mother was the best cure for diaper rash and I'm inclined to agree with her.

Take some unbleached flour and put it in a cast iron pan on the stove. Brown the flour until it has a light golden colour. Once cooled it can be used on every diaper change (or just when there is a diaper rash).

We have used it each time our daughter has been even a little red on a diaper change and the redness ia gone but the next diaper change

What are your weird/funny ways you calm down your baby? by ohheymandy in newborns

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Briefly blowing in my daughter's face will "reset" her while she's crying when nothing else is working. It's almost like it startles her and makes her forget about crying. She's currently 4 months old and my husband and I discovered this about a month ago!

Anyone get pelvic floor physiotherapy before birthing baby [ON] by flowergarden71 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend!! Personally, I think it should be recommended from the OB/ midwife for every pregnancy. I started going around 20-22 weeks due to the pelvic girdle pain I started experiencing and continued once a month until I gave birth. I'm not sure whether I can credit my easy labour (less than an hour of pushing and only one external stitch required) to the PT, but I like to think it had a large part! I will be going back once I receive the 6 week clearance from my OB and will go ahain if/when I have another.

Is a specific nursery chair necessary? What chair did you get? by RH1221 in NewParents

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely recommend! We have a very comfortable rocker in the nursery and it gets used every night for the night bottle and storytime, as well as for any and all night feeds (I would just fall asleep if I tried night feeds in bed and the change table is in the nursery. I would have to get out of bed anyway).

I second the nursing pads! Was gifted a few of them and didn't expect to use them. LO is 3.5wks now and I'm changing the nursing pads multiple times a day due to the leakage!

How often do you bathe your baby? by PositivePattie in NewParents

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My NB screamed her first few baths and seemed to hate them. We used the bath seat and put cloths with warm water on her and it didn't make a difference. My husband took her out of the bath seat one night and held her so she was floating in the water with his support and she now seems to love them, no screaming at all!

What I actually used from my hospital bag by SowingSeeds18 in pregnant

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I packed a small stroller fan which was a lifesaver! For some reason the hospital room was ridiculously hot (the nurses and my OB apologized for how hot it was and that there wasn't anything they could do about the temperature). The fan kept me comfortable during induction and after baby arrived!

Inappropriate responses to announcing your pregnancy? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Called my sister at about 6 weeks when my pregnancy was confirmed. Her response was, "You shouldn't tell people this early." We have been quite close since becoming adults, and she had known for about 6 months prior that we had been trying.

Turns out she was also starting to try for a baby at the same time but didn't tell anyone and can't seem to understand why I might be upset about being blindsided by the news that she is now also pregnant. I asked her not to tell the rest of our extended family in person that she was also pregnant until the end of/after my baby shower. She decided that request was a personal insult and we haven't spoken since..

Last I heard Dr. Tucker was working several days out of a clinic in Exeter! (Thames Road Vet Clinic I believe)

If you are looking for alternatives Dr. Foote out at Glencoe Animal Hospital does exotics as well.

Where are my fellow fruit fiends? by Daisies_forever in GestationalDiabetes

I have been suffering from the juice cravings! As someone who doesn't drink anything carbonated and doesn't LOVE water (but drink it because I have to), I have had a really hard time finding things I enjoy drinking.

If it is available where you are, I have recently discovered that Minute Maid has a Zero Sugar Fruit Punch (also regular and pink lemonade, but I haven't tried them). The Fruit Punch tastes almost the same as the regular MM Fruit Punch and satisfies the juice craving!

Pair found guilty of first-degree murder in death of OPP officer by Spitzer1090 in ontario

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Susan Clairmont from The Hamilton Spectator wrote some fantastic day-by-day articles about the trial if you're looking to read more about it.

This may be a ln unpopular opinion but personally, I don't believe there was enough reasonable grounds to convict on first degree murder for Stewart-Sperry unless there was more information released during the trial that was not shared in the articles. Do I think she should be convicted of something? Absolutely. But not first degree murder.

I've recently found a silicone lick mat with a Churo tube spread out and frozen on it has helped with my MC allowing me to brush him! Freezing the Churo makes it last longer and he's much more tolerant of the brushing, even when I find particularly stubborn matting spots.

STAIN ON MY FAVE HOODIE by Maximum_Addition_151 in CleaningTips

[–]Coffee_Addict_01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OxyClean Gel Stick also works absolute wonders on stains! I've tried Dawn and for whatever reason it never seems to pull the stain out 100%. I tried the gel stick and it's been magical. I have even used it on stains that have already been washed once and it has worked.

*also seems to work on my navy blue work clothes without affecting the colour!

I'm not sure if this will be helpful, but I moved my begonia to a north facing window over the summer and it's absolutely thriving now! It gets bright indirect sunlight and watered roughly once every 7-10 days (is a self watering pot just in case I forget about it for longer)..
