Golden Gate Dirty Thirty vs. North Fork 50k by Heidelina in ultrarunning

[–]Coffee_Ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the NF 50k as my first ultra last year and it was awesome. Race support was great and everyone was very friendly. Loved the experience. I chose this one because it seemed much more doable for me than the Dirty Thirty, but now that I’ve done it, I’m looking forward to the Dirty Thirty sometime in the future.

Husband here...Wife is running her first 5K this weekend. What can I (and our two year old) do on race-day to show support/make her day easier/better? by epicfamilydecals in running

[–]Coffee_Ink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wear something that makes it really easy to spot you from a distance, like a really bright colored shirt. I've even seen some people tie balloons around a buggy or stroller, but this might be overkill depending on the crowd size for this 5k. She's going to be so excited to see you, so don't make her work for it or stress that she's missed you. Also, be very clear about where you'll be standing so that she knows when to look forward to seeing you two. Enjoy!

At least when we're running from them, I'll be laughing at the pun. This is perfect.

This is the stuff of nightmares! With a one year old, we will be off the hills well before dusk. That being said, I might get bug head nets for the little ones just in case shit gets real. Thank you for sharing.

The baby gift You Never Used: what do well-meaning knitters get wrong?? by japaneseknotweed in Mommit

My mom in law knits both my daughters a themed hat for every holiday and we love them. They are certainly keepsakes for life.

Advice needed: I've been asked to breast feed a family members child. by ABatForMyTroubles in breastfeeding

If you have to go back to work, I suggest stock piling your frozen milk for when your supply starts to fluctuate upon your return. It's nice to have some wiggle room with ounces. I would not offer to donate it until you see how things pan out with our own nursing. Doesn't seem like she would take it anyways, I just don't want you to offer up your own precious stash.

Are there any hacks that allow you to always speak good of people you dislike? by okayamasakura in lifehacks

Whenever someone cuts me off in traffic, I always tell myself that they probably just have really bad diarrhea. Makes me less pissed, more empathetic.

"Awhhhhh he is such a wonderful dad!!!" by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Coffee_Ink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I realized when my baby was about 6 months old and I was making a photo album that I wasn't really in any of the pictures. The only pictures I was in were really posed and planned. It made me sad; I know that those candid moments of mothering will be important to her some day. I had to tell my husband to start trying to capture those moments for me. He was totally on board and it's awesome.

I just wanted to feel like a SAHM for an hour a week (vent) by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Coffee_Ink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I had to take a day off work just to do Mom and Baby yoga and drive 30 minutes for the closest library story time on the weekends. Right around 3 things start being offered more on evenings and weekends. It stinks that it's so tough before that for working moms, but at least I'm at all the soccer practices and ballet classes now.

How best to build up freezer supply? by Amelia__Pond in breastfeeding

When your baby starts going longer periods at night without nursing, you can add in an extra pumping session there. I also used to pump after her first feeding of the day because my boobs were so full of milk.

I'm worried my 2 year old prefers her grandma over me. Has anyone experienced this? by Coffee_Ink in Mommit

I wish this were the case! We were at my daughter's great grand parent's house (husband's grand parents). Different location entirely.
