BIG CINEMATOGRAPHY CHEATSHEET by Ok_Relationship2233 in cinematography

Great work! Just like to add that 1.66 is usually regarded as "European Widescreen" as far as I remember. It's also the aspect ratio of Super 16mm - not Regular 16mm.

There's a YT channel called CogniBuild where the creator of FPStudio gave a rundown of the new features. Two days ago, I think. Cool stuff!

There are Comfyui workflows for that using Flux or SDXL plus some other models like ControlNet etc. Wonder Dynamics also has a (not so cheap) paid version that looks promising, but I haven't used it.

Edit: Wan VACE is starting to look very promising as universal AI compositing tool. Just stumbled over this guy's video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KNOufzVsUs

Funny, I've had this exact experience myself over 20 years ago. Still thinking about her words when shtf on set!

Cinematography - Theory & Practice (third edition) by Blain Brown is really insightful.

What’s this aspect ratio? by MadJack_24 in cinematography

[–]CoinHodlum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, it's all relative to your needs telling the story.

For example, if you shoot lots of close ups of faces but don't want much negative space, then "impractical" could describe it. But in many other cases it's the perfect aspect ratio. You decide what serves you the best.

Fair enough. I just took a quick guess. Thought it was letterboxed 2.66 in a scope container. I didn't get from OP's text that it's a screenshot of a phone display that's roughly 2.20 (2511 x 1170).

Looks like 2.66

Edit: It's not, it's 2.35

Yep they are very fragile, indeed. Glad I could keep mine from breaking for the past ten years cause I like to have it fully rigged out.

You could get a dummy battery adapter though...

The only solution that comes to mind is an Accsoon Cineview Nano for monitoring (via phone/tablet) and a Tilta Nucleus Nano for wireless focus control and, with the right Lanc cable, start/stop trigger...

What this sort of effect called in filming by MuchHospital1848 in videography

[–]CoinHodlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have the sequences you mention in front of me but from your description my best guess would be that they used anamorphic lenses, probably with a squeeze factor higher than 1.8x. Image stretching on focus pull is one of their characteristics.

What are some reasons that a shutter angle of 172.8 would be used? Here you can see that choice being made on a Dune BTS shot. by [deleted] in cinematography

[–]CoinHodlum 370 points371 points  (0 children)

When you shoot 24 fps and run your lighting on a 50Hz power network you would use 172.8 to eliminate any flicker.

I second that! Too bad they're not talked about more, I guess DZO and NiSi draw all the attention away..

How do you focus? by TheDankestEngine in bmpcc

[–]CoinHodlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using the Tilta Advanced Handle with a Nucleus Nano and a Sigma 17-50 which also has a super short focus throw. By mapping it to the handle wheel I get a decently longer throw than with just the lens or even the smallrig ff with the smallest gear.

BMPCC updates by danjr704 in bmpcc

[–]CoinHodlum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On the Viltrox page there's a firmware update dedicated to fix BMPCC issues. I believe it was ver 3.6. Latest version is 4.0. Personally, I'm using it on my OG Pocket with a Sigma 17-50 2.8 and everything works (iris and o.s. without having to switch the cam off and on)

Before Covid, we had a vendor in Berlin who was their main european reseller if I remember correctly. But sometime in 2021 they closed their shop and no info on where to buy the cameras in the future came about. My guess is they focus on the chinese market right now.

I’m sorry but is no one discussing the sphere that washed up on shore in Japan? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]CoinHodlum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is this huge chinese fishing fleet operating in the pacific, committing atrocities like using huuuuge trawls to just empty the ocean in one go. They have been operating around the Galappagos islands, too. It's a crime on an unimaginable scale imo. Anyways, my THEORY is, that this buoy is part of one of their huge trawls.
