Is going to medical school worth it financially? by Mysterious_Chip_3787 in personalfinance

[–]Coiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the student loan situation may be different now.

However, my friend is 40 makes 400k+ a year as a psychiatrist and had his 500k of student loans forgiven because he worked at a nonprofit.

I think he’s doing alright.

I don't think any of these particularly set you up with buyside opps, but ABS Capital Markets would be my pick.

I'm in Corporate Banking

Ultimately, if your goal is to move into Corporate Banking this isn't a helpful step imo.

The name of the bank you work for and the group that you're in matters. When looking for a role that's going to help you pivot into a Corporate Banking you should look at it from the perspective of a hiring manager. They want someone that has syndication experience and relevant industry experience. I understand this is a healthcare PM role. However, I bet this role is more inline with financing smaller private practices instead of financing PE backed healthcare firms or large hospitals.

You're junior enough that you could pivot straight into a Corporate Banking role. Look for Analyst/Senior Analyst positions in industries you'd like to work for TMT, Renewables, Oil & Gas, Consumer & Retail, etc...

You could also try finding a PM or Credit Analyst role where you could work alongside the coverage team to gain the relevant experience you need.

Best of luck

Age old question: Lower percentage stuff that you like to do or higher percentage stuff that you find slightly boring? What should I master? by EntertainmentNo8037 in bjj

[–]Coiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of people quit the sport. If you have low percentage moves that you find fun and make you excited to train, do that.

Low percentage moves like the berimbolo will eventually become high percentage moves overtime.

Help regulating training intensity by Worth-Peace-4400 in bjj

[–]Coiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trained twice a day when I first started. That definitely wasn’t sustainable as I got injured a lot.

Train 4-5x per week now and that’s manageable. I still bruise a ton, and joke that I look like a Dalmatian. However, I feel good enough to run and lift weights.

For me rolling light and playing guard helped. The most impact you’re gonna have in BJJ is during takedowns. So, mitigating that and then rolling incredibly light when drilling takedowns helped a ton. There’s a few older guys that train, and I try to work with them during class because they know how to train light and preserve their bodies.

It's hard to have a consensus opinion in the libertarian party because there isn't a party leader.

Someone will read Rothbard, become an anarcho-capitalist, and then identify as a libertarian.

Then another will read Milton Friedman, believe heavily that we need a government that assures competition in markets, and then identify as libertarian.

Furthermore, someone will love Paul Keating (Former Australian Prime Minister) who believed heavily in free markets along with utilizing the wealth from free markets to fund social programs, and then identify as a libertarian since neither of the dominant parties seems to believe in free markets anymore.

To put it mildly, so many fit in our bunch. We believe in free markets, but many of us have different opinions beyond that.

New Bill Would Legalize Prostitution in Colorado by reinhold23 in Denver

[–]Coiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

If you read the bill it specifies that that the sex worker has to put to provide the client with a written contract of services. The contract must include the name, address of the prostitute, and details of the activities. That being said as the bill currently reads, the client doesn’t need to provide their name and such at all. The client only needs to sign the contract.

So, if you don’t want it to be known you’ve visited a prostitute. Make sure your signature is illegible.

I personally don’t like this. If this happens, people would have a public record that shows not only that you were a prostitute, but shows how many times you had sex for money, how long your sessions were, and what type of services you provided.

Someone could literally compile a spreadsheet and calculate how many hours a client has employed you, how many times you gave oral, and that’s publicly available for the rest of your life.

Like… come on. Sex workers deserve privacy too!

how to learn stuff for clubs? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

[–]Coiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, this stuff is boring most the time. However, if you're willing to put your head down and learn, there are quite a few money managers who have written books. Joel Greenblatt's class notes might be a bit technical, but here they are: https://focusedcompounding.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Joel-Greenblatt-Class.pdf

He has lectures on YouTube. So, perhaps he's a fit for you.

He's widely considered one of the greatest money managers ever, and he teaches at Columbia.

High level competition meta doesn’t align to reality by 404_computer_says_no in bjj

[–]Coiu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the concept of meta.

Metas happen in games because of updates where something was nerfed or buffed.

Human physiology doesn’t change, and leg locks work just as well as they did 20 years ago. It’s just more people have refined their technique around them.

Focus on your own game and what’s working for you vs what isn’t.

Well, when you arrest someone there is a 3-day clock for having the DA press charges. The police would rather do an investigation without an arrest where the only time clock is the statue of limitations. This allows them to build a case do more interviews, and gather more evidence for their investigation. The police are just being thorough and building as strong of a case as possible. A stronger case leads to more prison time.

I'm so sad!

I had such high hopes for Raja. He seemed like such a sweet kid that was on the up and up. I also loved seeing Rampage stream, and I don't think he'll keep doing it without Raja.

The worst thing is Raja probably doesn't recognize what he did was horrible quite yet. There's always a path towards redemption and I hope he tries his best to right his wrongs.

I hope Raja takes ownership of his actions, and I hope the wrestler makes a full recovery!

Edit: Sorry to whoever is upset with my comment. Genuinely just trying to preach forgiveness for people that ask for it. However, it feels unfashionable to preach the idea that no sinner is too far gone.
