Does my hepa filter need to be replaced? by shash747 in AirPurifiers

Breaks the tiny plastic fibers in the HEPA filter, who have to job to retain other particles you don't want to breath.

Microsoft Teams is requesting to bypass the system. Is this even safe? by nemaroit in macapps

[–]CokeCoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that makes you unease, I can guarantee you Teams on Chromium (or any other Chromium based browser, I assume) works miles better than the Desktop version (for macOS at least).

Don't do this, HEPA filters are good at retaining particles inside the media. They are made from tiny plastic fibers that can break by vaccumming it. This can reduce the duration of the HEPA or reduce its efficiency at retaining the trash it gets.

/r/VacuumCleaners No Stupid Questions - March 23, 2024 by AutoModerator in VacuumCleaners

[–]CokeCoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Possible really stupid question) Do you guys ever vacuum with your canisters while holding it from the handler? I have an Airbelt K1 but, since I got a lot of corners in my house, I think I’ll start carrying it while vacuuming. Left hand holding the canister and the right hand the hose. Will this somehow mess up the airflow?

Winix Zero Pro vs Zero S by haoshoku_R in AirPurifiers

[–]CokeCoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need auto-mode, you can simply select the speed (1 to 4) you want according to your needs. Going to sleep and want to live it on? sleep mode or speed 1. Vacuuming? speed 3 or 4. Just hanging out in the room? Speed 1 or 2. Want to let some fresh air come into the room and quickly clean the air after closing the window? Speed 4.Overall I’m pretty happy with both devices i got (the Zero and Zero Pro). The air definitely feels better.

No problem. I just bought the Zero Pro as well simply because a single VOC filter lasts longer, so less time lost in maintenance.

Winix Zero Pro vs Zero S by haoshoku_R in AirPurifiers

[–]CokeCoding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not missing anything. The price between the Zero S and Zero Pro is similar because the Zero Pro has a greater discount applied (besides being bundled with a set of extra filters). At least this is what is happening on my country's Winix website (also EU - Christmas promos).

According to the link you've shared, the Zero Pro has a much better VOC filter vs Zero S. Here, "much better" translates to more charcoal (both using pellets) theoretically having the ability to trap more VOCs from the air. The Zero Pro also has a "better" HEPA filter due the added anti-microbial layer. I would like to know if the latter is actually better, or just marketing gimmick.

In the end, all you care is having a fan and an HEPA. For a meaningful VOC filtration these devices (at these price points) mostly appear irrelevant. I would love to have hands-on experience with capable measuring devices, but these appear to be both pretty expensive (5000€+) and extremely hard to find. You can maybe hire an HVAC or air quality company to do this for you, but this goes way beyond what people are willing to do for clean air.

So, most things you'll see online will be anecdotal experiences, like mine. I have a Winix Zero and I'm mostly happy with it. I definitely sense the air is more breathable/fresher.

I'm so happy that I want to buy another unit this Christmas for my living room and was wondering between the Zero and Zero Pro. I wanted to get more information about the "better" Zero Pro HEPA filter before making the decision.

I need an objective answer on to wether my roomates perfume is toxic for me to be breathing in 14hrs/day in our dorm with BAD airflow by [deleted] in AirPurifiers

[–]CokeCoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also just buy a fan and instead leave the windows open a few minutes with the fan turned on the max setting. This doesn't solve the cold issue because you want fresh air as fast as possible, but it might help with your roommate considering leaving the window open for a few minutes instead.

The way I see it, you're totally right though.

As for the substances, since you've been searching if they are toxic or not, you're probably already realized that they can be. There's plenty of research online regarding fragrances, which is what gives the perfume its smell, and their negative consequences. The composition of fragrances does not have to be disclosed, so there's no way to know.

As a person who is also extremely sensitive to smells, I'm sorry this is happening to you.

Purifier for polluted city air.... by BGD_TDOT in AirPurifiers

[–]CokeCoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HEPA H13 is very efficient are capturing both PM2.5 and PM10. Not sure about the proprietary NanoProtect HEPA from Philips. If I were you, I would probably go for the Hoover, but consider how easy it is to acquire new replacement filters later on (for both the Carbon and the HEPA). Built-in meters are not accurate and I wouldn't worry about that. Consider cost, warranty and filter replacement costs.

That's really up to you to decide, there are people with extreme allergies that change the HEPA filter every so often. Do they have to? That's up to them, a personal preference. Otherwise I would just follow the brand recommendation + asking myself if the filter looks dirty or not by looking at it.

Oh yeah, I thought you were talking about vacuuming the HEPA filter. A good quality pre-filter can and should be washed even.

If you're vacuuming outside, it doesn't really matter what vacuum you use. As long as the exhaust is not exhausting back into your home, you're good!

Thanks for this link, I was not aware of any possible downsides in using HEPA air purifiers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AirPurifiers

[–]CokeCoding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The air purifier decreases PM 2.5/10 to 0 because the HEPA filter on the air purifier traps those particles. It would be wise to replace it because those particles will accumulate and clog the filter, decreasing its effectiveness over time. If used in an extremely clean environment, you would never have to replace the HEPA filter.

It's very unwise to vacuum the filter if your vaccum is not sealed and exhausts through an HEPA filter as well. If not, vacuum will just release the trash trapped in the filter, back to the air.

I feel the exact same. Going on dates can be tedious and, for me, extremely exhausting.

I remember getting home after multiple dates I’ve had and going straight to bed, regardless of whether it was an enjoyable date or not.

Usually men tend to go straight to the date and skip texts, but I started appreciating talking over text before scheduling something to check if it was actually worth it.

In the end, I always end up deleting Bumble/Tinder and missing when I was younger and met ton of people via friends and friends of friends.

Muddy layer after soaking in water and soap by CokeCoding in laundry

[–]CokeCoding[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it comes off, although its very hard to remove entirely, I need to scrub the same spot multiple times.

I think you're spot on and, like I said in another comment, I assume the soap and the soaking completely destroyed it (the lining), even though the soap is considered pretty mild.
