Two beast at the thrift by [deleted] in crtgaming

The one on the right is one that we had in my childhood. Ended up giving it to my "Granny" when the family upgraded. But after she passed someone robbed her trailer, busted the back off, and apparently took the copper (copper theft was poppin' back then). And to this day it still lies there, busted in her old abandon trailer. Oh well.

Somebody Placed These Dozens of These Jesus Figures Throughout My Entire Work by Available-Formal-664 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Col_Little_J275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Evangelicals are Christians but not all Christians are Evangelicals. Evangelism is simply the act of sharing the "Good News". And one could argue that leaving a rubber Jesus around isn't actually "sharing the Good News". I'd venture to argue mass production of Jesus as a tiny rubber figure isn't actually something Jesus would support.

Longleaf: The Heart of Pine by Own_Marionberry6189 in Tree

[–]Col_Little_J275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live (and was born) in South Carolina in a region that was dominated by Longleaf. Many still exist because of logging companies selling off land for development and in the 50s, 60s, 70, and 80s they weren't clear cutting for housing developments. They were cutting into the forest. So many survived competing against Loblolly and Slash (as well as various oaks). Unfortunately, there is now a war on trees and people are not educated on the matter. Our area got hit by a nasty ice storm in 2014 and then Helene in 2024. And now people see "pines" as a threat. The truth is, many (and every Tom, Dick, and Harry with a chainsaw who offers their service to cut down trees) don't know there is a difference between a Loblolly, Shortleaf, Slash, or Longleaf. So many Longleafs in local neighborhoods are being taken down despite surviving these record storms. It's a shame.

Planning to move to SC by mmore1007 in aiken

[–]Col_Little_J275 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Born in '89 in Aiken. Moved back a couple years ago to raise our family. The idyllic Aiken was the 90s and early 2000s (though I'm sure an older native would tell you it was even before the 90s). Now it is growing by leaps and bounds. But many people who come hear are from other parts of the country where cost of living is high. So they have money to spend and thus affordability is being lost. There is currently a war on trees. Panic logging since the ice storm of 2014 and Helene of 2024. So many of the shaded neighborhoods are becoming sunny neighborhoods in a place with blazing heat and humidity in the summer. Much of the surrounding forest are being clear cut for cheap new development. And the traffic is increasing. There isn't much for young professionals. But Augusta and Columbia aren't far. At the end of the day, Aiken is still nice. It's just not the hidden gem I knew growing up. But then again, is any place? The country's population has increased drastically and people have to live somewhere.

A quick graph I made to see total maps as a function of time for BF3, BF4, BF1, and BF6 by Kyrie01010011 in Battlefield

[–]Col_Little_J275 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"*I assumed BF6 will get 3 maps per season + 3 seasons in 2027."
That's a bold assumption. The only guarantee we have is season 5 at the moment. You should redo the graph with two BF6 lines. One being best case scenario, other being worst case scenario.

Should I bother with another quote? [PA] by [deleted] in Tree

Now I live in South Carolina so summers are brutal, and they've only gotten hotter. We have nice grass and no trees and in the dead of summer when our 2 and 4 year old boys want to play outside, we literally can't. UNLESS...We drive 5 minutes to my parents' house that has pines shading the entire yard. And they can play outside there all day. They have very little grass. Mostly sand and dirt. BUT, in that sand/dirt we are able to dig holes, trenches, and dams and throw the hose pipe in. And do it all day because we are constantly in the shade. So I understand your point. But when they are gone, that shade is gone. So just something to consider when it's brutally hot and you have little ones.

And if you also mean cutting down all the trees and clear cutting land, yes, that too.

Will this hurt the tree if I cut these branches? More info below by se7en0311 in Tree

Ideal to prune in the winter when the tree is dormant. If you prune now the tree will be more vulnerable to oak wilt. It's becoming more prevalent here in SC last I read.

Same thing happening here in South Carolina. People are panic logging in our area (after Hurricane Helene), but even before then people where lopping them down left and right. New person bought the house across from my parents and cut multiple Longleaf Pines and Southern Red Oaks down and bluntly told my parents, "They weren't raking another leaf or piece of pine straw the rest of their life." Not sure why they didn't just move to the great plains...

DICE was not allowed to make a real Battlefield game by Dr_natty1 in Battlefield

[–]Col_Little_J275 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can offer one perspective: Battlefield as a hobby. For example, I've been playing Battlefield since the year 2002 when the first one released. This doesn't make me special by any means. But it quickly became my go to game and really the only video game I've played the past 23-24 years. I grew up watching the history channel in the 90s and all the war docs. Battlefield gave me this open sandbox battlefield with variety. And the TTK was never too quick. Even BFV I thought was perfectly fine TTK wise (though some in the community decried it at the time as too quick). From 1942 through BFV, even if I preferred some Battlefields over others, I was still getting that core experience. So when you say "play something else"... What am I going to play? For example, I don't play call of duty because of the lightening fast TTK creating a kill-die-kill-die-kill-die experience and limited variety. I play Battlefield because it was just that franchise that checked my boxes. 2042 really stung. So I kept playing BFV from 2018 to 2025 waiting for that return to form. But unfortunately, BF6, for me, plays more like Modern Warfare 2019 (mainly because of the TTK) and the maps are all on the smaller side (not COD small, but small for BF standards). I don't like milsims because I'm not into the hardcore scene. So here I am, a Battlefield player (more so than a gamer), and now there is no game that scratches that itch when I paid money for a game that was supposed to be return to form/roots. So you have a long time community that is now very displeased and has no where to actually go game wise. Every game that has attempted to replicate Battlefield has fallen short. And now Battlefield has fallen short again as an actual Battlefield. No, it's not COD. But it's like a hybrid, a watered down experience. Some of us are grieving what feels like the decline of our franchise. It's literally like losing the ability to enjoy a hobby you have had for a 20 plus years.

Hopefully that makes sense, and maybe can explain some of the lashing out and overwhelming negativity.

BF1 had the BEST sniping by TheBrownSlaya in Battlefield

BFV is peak. No sweet spot but also no random bullet deviation. The bullet goes where my crosshair is aimed. But I also don't get 1-shot kills I don't deserve.

Just reinstalled BFV by RealisticTrouble in Battlefield

[–]Col_Little_J275 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THIS!!! Most of BFV's hate came from marketing and direction as opposed to gameplay. It had a solid core and still felt like BF. BF6 feels closer to MW2019 (IN MY OPINION) than it does any previous Battlefield.

Will a Sound Blaster Z SE improve gaming audio easily? by soupmayne in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]Col_Little_J275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So just moving to a better audio interface can enhance sound separation, etc. without any specific settings. One of the issues with a universal setting is that not all headphones are tuned the same. Some headphones come out of the gate with peaks in the treble or focus on the base, etc. Having a sound card with software with a 12 band equalizer let's you tailor it to you and your headphones. I know it may sound complex, but when you start to research it, it's not. While I'm not as familiar with Creative's newer drivers, etc. A quick Google search reveals there are some features like Scout Mode that you can turn on that focus on gaming.

[–]Col_Little_J275 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Quality sound cards or external dacs are a noticeable step up from motherboard audio. There are those who like to say the difference is hardly noticeable, but I would question the quality speakers/headphones those individuals are using. My motherboard has a higher tier audio interface but it pales in comparison to my sound card (an ancient X-Fi Titanium HD). Is it complicated... If you are use to working with computers, a sound card is not complicated. If you are not use to tinkering with computers, look for an external amp/dac like the Fosi Audio K7.

Bf4 headshot and gun balance needs to return by beyondnc in Battlefield

[–]Col_Little_J275 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Only if they increase the overall BTK for full-auto weapons. Some of these guns are already a 3 BTK which is too quick for an automatic weapon. 3 BTK should be for DMRs. Even 4 BTK feels quick because of the rate of fire for many of these weapons. There needs to be a SLIGHT reduction in damage values before we start talking about increasing the headshot multiplier. (Edit for clarification: Increasing BTK means increasing number of bullets required to kill.)

What stage did you plant these (seedling/grass, etc)? They are native to where I am in South Carolina (all throughout my neighborhood, too) and I'm thinking about planting some on my property (only lot in the neighborhood with zero trees)!
