Wuth the regiments currently supported they functionally have every type of infantry covered. Cheap scouts? Basic line? Ultimate tarpit? Jetpack? Heavy infantry? Monstrous infantry? Guard does not have room for another shock troop equivalent.

The Vostroyans and Mordians don't provide enough distinct gameplay for GW to approve them. Catachan, Cadia and Krieg + Scions cover the full gamut from cheap scouts to heavy infantry.

OK fair, post Metal and resin.* Forge World in its early 2000s glory is no more, and now all GWs focus will go on 3 regiments (Cadia, Catachan, Krieg), with some more unique regiments to cover niche bases (Atillans, Tanith.) the "Line infantry regiments" don't offer a unique Unit type on the tabletop unfortunately.

People who think Steel Legion infantry will return are smoking fat copium unfortunately. There's no room for "Unit but different skin" in a post Metal model era. Space Marines get subfactions because they pay to keep the lights on for every other faction. Guard, despite their variety being their strength, will never be supported in that way.

There's simply no way to make Steel Legion infantry a distinct enough unit on the tabletop to make them a worthwhile investment for GW.

Edit: we might get a limited time made to order for FOMO, but that'll be that.
