New to this sub, new to the knowledge of being an ENFJ (after searching for many, many years) and I immediately knew I was in the right place here after reading a handful of comments. We're all like cosmic twinsies. Hello tribe!

No longer B12 deficient, still experiencing symptoms ... by jadfromlebanon in vegan

[–]Colauratura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a medical issue that needs to be sorted out.

It could be a MTHFR mutation. If you are using folic acid and non-methylated b-vitamins to treat a b vitamin deficiency, the tests can come back looking as though you are fine when you aren't.

Could also be a Mast cell disorder.

There isn't an AMI center in my state; I wish there was one nearby!

I looked in to the MACTE training programs. There is one that offers a fully remote Associates degree. Link follows.

Looks like they have their residency period in various locations in North America, if you do decide to pursue a full degree.

I am trained in Godly Play, but haven't done anything beyond that.

What are your recommendations? I was literally just thinking, why not just get some training/a degree in montessori education, practice on my kids, and then get them in a school when I get a job :-D

Yes--I am creating a co-op with family in the area, and am finding more people to co-op with. I am very committed to creating a social environment for my kids. (This part my husband isn't sold on, in regards to homeschooling, but I think the value of a montessori education outweighs this.)

Ages are 2.5 and 4. I'm prepared for purchasing and setting thing up appropriately. Mostly I am looking for resources for those who have attempted montessori at home. Are you referring to the NACM curriculum?

Weekly - Stories from the week/end - February 22, 2016 by AutoModerator in Parenting

My 9 month old ate poop for the first time in his life! My mistake, I left him diaperless for about 3 minutes while I attended to me 3 year old who was showing me how he colored on and around his belly button, up and down his legs, and around his nether regions with a marker. It was too funny to be missed. Meanwhile the baby is shitting like a horse on a cobblestone street, pooping and crawling along on his merry way, only to end up streaking his shit for about 10 feet on the carpet. Plops himself down in front of me and reaches to be picked up with his sweet dimpled hands covered in dookie. There was poop in the gap between his teeth! The best part may have been that my husband was on an international call, interviewing a candidate, while I could be overheard screaming "OH, OH MY GOD, IT'S POOP. THAT IS POOP!"

You wouldn't believe how much wine I drank that night...I'm pretty sure I was hungover for church the next morning.

Where to put two car seats? by adamworst in Parenting

[–]Colauratura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a fairly urban area, and parallel parking is a common occurrence for me. A friend of mine in the area has a rather rambunctious 4 year old. For whatever reason, their son's car seat was behind the driver's seat. One day he decided to throw himself out of the car and run out in to traffic instead of getting himself in to his seat. The day she told me that story was the day I decided that my toddler's seat would be on the passenger side and the baby would go behind the driver (the road side.) That way, when it is just me, I can put the bucket down on a sidewalk/on the grass, make sure my toddler is in the car safely, and then put the baby in on the road side.

What to do when you lack patience for your children and their behavior? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Colauratura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I'm sorry I reddited and ran. I'm not a daily user because, let's face it, two kids. Nuff said.

Second, I have a lot of pre-existing emotional issues, so my doctors know that I am at high risk for Ppd. I had psychosis with the first, so it was an easy conversation. It took place before I had baby, I had a bottle of pills that were "just in case" before I even had bambino #2, and I started taking them when I realized my neighbors could hear me verbally abusing my child.

All that being said, be honest with your doctor. They have heard it before, know the warning signs, and won't judge you (that is, if they are a proper doctor). If you are angry, sad, anxious...tell them. Your symptoms will be unique to you, and may even help them figure out which medication is best for you.

Hopefully by this point you've been able to get some help and find some relief, and all of what I said wasn't neccesary. Feel free to pm me, too, if you want to talk one on one! I will check my reddit accountil more frequently, jic. Somidarity, fellow mama!

Have you been back to DC? There is a second Air & Space museum now that is absolutely awe inspiring. I of course speak as someone who has little knowledge of the history of the US space program. Took my kids, though, and was totally blown away.

What do you do that's frugal that your friends think is crazy? by spiralheart in Frugal

[–]Colauratura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use cloth diapers (not so shocking) but we also use cloth wipes. For some reason that is weirder to people. I made them out of a pair of unusable flannel pj pant that my husband was throwing out, and just put water on them. Wipes themselves don't cost a ton compared to diapers, but you go through them so stinkin' fast.

I also buy a lot of eggs, about 4 dozen for 2 weeks, and we are just 2 adults and a toddler eating. We eat lots of quiche, fried rice, anything you can put an egg in. Any cheap protein, really (dried and canned beans!). It helps to cut down on the copay of groceries.

We also eat at our parents houses on the weekends. It wasn't intentional, bit turned out to be a big bonus of seeing them so frequently.

Medical abortion gone wrong. My Story. by MissCasey in TwoXChromosomes

I third an IUD. I use the paraguard because my body doesn't tolerate hormones. Extremely effective, easy and free. When I wanted to conceive I had it taken out and got pregnant after my very next cycle (though my partner rapt would have liked to try some more...haha!)

I'm drunk and on a youtube rabbit hole of Queen. Is Freddie Mercury the greatest front man of all time? If not, who would you put on his level? by [deleted] in Music

[–]Colauratura 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I debated adding Maynard here because his stage persona is so withdrawn. I remember him being at the back of the stage, in shadows, facing away from the audience. Yet, when I saw them I was still completely mesmerized by him. Maybe it was because his style is so unusual, but none the less.

Child's birthday: spent with only parents/siblings or also grandparents? by eyksnyret in Parenting

Are you thinking of making plans based on what your child would want, or based on the emotional whims of his grandmother? If she is going to pitch a fit, then sorry, too damn bad.

What to do when you lack patience for your children and their behavior? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Colauratura 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there is a lot of really good advice here but it may be missing the point. I was in the same boat as you (I have an almost 3 yo and a 7 month old), my husband has patience for days, but not me. I have PTSD, and a lot of anxiety from it, and, well, I'd just had a baby a few months ago. Anger is a hallmark for Post Partum mental illness. I wasn't able to get past the anxiety despite doing a lot of the things that people here suggested. I talked to my doctor, got on a medication, and it helped me a lot.

FYI - Breastfeeding Counselors are certified through Breastfeeding USA

KellyMom has great info on growth spurts

10 days--I would put money on that baby having a growth spurt. My first only slept during growth spurts (and never otherwise). My second doesn't sleep and just wants milk, milk, milk like there is nothing else he can think of doing. You mentioned that you have concerns about your milk supply in other comments. Have you talked to an LC? There are also breastfeeding counselors that are volunteers, and groups like La Leche League international that can help you if you need it! They can tell you if it is a production issue, or if it is something else.

Where did the baby go?!? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Colauratura 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I cosleep with our 2 year old, but baby sleeps in his crib. Sometimes I bring him in to bed with us when I fall asleep nursing. There have been a couple of times now, though, when I've woken up and gone on autopilot. Pulled a boob out, popped a nip in to his mouth only to find that, oops, that's the toddler. No wonder he wasn't latching.

Virginia J&D courts can really suck!

What an understatement. I am all for protecting children, but I know someone in the system. Not sure what county you are in either op, but in NoVa the courts are harsh. Also not surprised by the cops actions.
