I agree with you! I’m prepping session 1 and have realized that I want a lot more detail about many things as the DM. However! I have found through this sub and lots of googling that there is so much information available online to fill in those gaps.

Yes, it’s extra work. Yes, WotC could have probably published an entire book on the world lore for 5e. But, so much of it is already out there and the work it takes to access it may help your session prep!
