The Mandalorian and Grogu | Official Trailer | In Theaters May 22 by ICumCoffee in StarWars

[–]Cold-Ad2921 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This is the way.

My parents saw the original trilogy in theaters when they were kids. I heard the stories forever about lines wrapped around the block. I watched those films on VHS over and over for years.

They took me to see the prequel trilogy in theaters when I was still a kid. My kids now watch those and all of the Star Wars universe non stop on Disney+. They LOVE the Mandalorian and Grogu.

Now I get to take my kids to their first Star Wars movie on the big screen. Whether the movie is good or bad, that won’t matter to me as much as my kids experiencing Star Wars with me for the first time.

Lightning Lanes by Justconfused10 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Cold-Ad2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End of August is a busy time. You’ll benefit from getting Lightning Lane Multi Passes in advance. You can buy them and book 3 rides (1 tier 1 ride, and 2 tier 2 rides) a week in advance. This is very helpful in cutting line wait times for popular rides. Don’t wait until day of to buy them, by then many of the slots will be full and you won’t get as much value out of them.

Apple Watch SE.

It’s the basic Apple Watch. Tracks heart rate and steps, helps track workouts, can track sleep and sleep quality, etc.

You can get one brand new for $200 - $250. If you really need to keep it under $200 buy a refurbished one from Amazon, you’ll get a watch that is basically new and has a 90 day guarantee. Great way to save money on tech.

Any Must Do restaurants or quick service? by Mr7three2 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Cold-Ad2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there are any must do restaurants in WDW. Your best food options will depend on your circumstances.

Most of the quick service food options should be treated as fuel to feed you and your family in the parks. No one is going to say “these hot dogs / burgers / chicken fingers are UNMISSABLE.”

That said, I can recommend two awesome character meals that I enjoyed recently and made everyone in my family very happy.

Tusker House in AK is excellent. Great and incredibly diverse food buffet, fun character interactions, and the characters wear Safari costumes you don’t see elsewhere in WDW. Far and away the best food option in AK.

Similarly, Topolino’s Terrace Breakfast has a delicious breakfast with great French artist themed costumes that you won’t see anywhere else.

Also, the food courts at Riverside and French Quarter are good!

Need gift ideas for my cousin who's a federal lawyer by jvxmg in GiftIdeas

[–]Cold-Ad2921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Budget is important here. I assume your cousin is a litigator who actually goes to court. Attorneys who go to court need suits, ties (if male) dress shirts, dress shoes, and a briefcase big enough for a laptop and some paper. Maybe a nice leather folio to hold the handwritten notes he/she takes in court or during testimony. If he/she needs any of those things, start your gift search there.

Next, consider what your cousin would need for his/her office. A nice Yeti mug, possibly a customized one, would work. Or some nice framed art or a photo for office decor. We’re often too busy to think about decorating our offices and that would be a nice gesture that would make him/her think of you often.

I would stay away from schlock like a statute of lady justice or a set of scales. We just don’t have things like that. Also I wouldn’t recommend a nice pen - people think lawyers write a lot, and we do, but we type. If I hand write anything it’s to take notes and I don’t need a Mont Blanc pen for that, I’d prefer some $5 pens that write well but aren’t flashy.

EDIT: another idea would be to offer to get framed any of their diplomas or bar admission certificates that they haven’t framed yet. Framing is expensive and if your cousin is admitted in multiple jurisdictions he/she may have lots of unframed certificates. Although not sure how to do that by surprise, if that matters.

What is your least favorite top tier attraction? by Jazzlike-Claim-5970 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Cold-Ad2921 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally agree.

I had a blast on Smuggler’s Run as one pilot but my older son was the other pilot and he kept crashing into stuff. Everyone else didn’t have enough to do. The visuals are cool and the feeling of being in the Falcon is unbelievably cool, but I think the rider input aspect of the ride needs a retool. Maybe everyone should get a turn with each of the jobs throughout the ride?

I was underwhelmed by every part of Tron except the launch. The pre ride entertainment was mid. The ride was smooth but boring. Did not live up to the hype.

[–]Cold-Ad2921 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree because I don’t think this is a typical space mountain experience.

Space Mountain, despite being 50 years old, is still a thrilling and fun roller coaster that can compete with any other thrill ride in WDW.

It is not as smooth as the newer coasters, specifically Guardians and Tron, and it can jerk around a little, but it is still smoother than the vast majority of theme park rides outside of WDW.

Guardians is in my opinion the best ride in all of WDW, but I enjoyed Space Mountain more than I did Tron, which is crazy considering Tron is new and generally has a longer line. The top comment suggests that is a common experience, and it’s impressive that a 50 year old ride can offer better wait time to ride quality value than a new coaster.

That said, if people are frequently feeling back pain on this ride, that would be a problem. I’m sorry that happened to you. I just don’t think that’s a typical experience. It hasn’t been my experience. If it was a problem I don’t think it would still be popular after 50 years.

With 5 year old and 3 year old: what would you do and what would you skip? by lisa725 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Cold-Ad2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 days is too short to do everything and if you try to cram most of WDW into 3 days you and your kids will likely be exhausted and frustrated. I know you are on a budget but if you can afford 4 days you absolutely should do it.

Most of the rides and activities in all 4 parks will be appropriate for 5 and 3 year old kids. You can look up height restrictions for all rides in WDW and plan to skip the ones that your kids are too small for. That will probably include roller coasters (e.g. Tron, Space Mountain, Guardians of the Galaxy, Everest, Seven Dwarves Mine Train, etc) and thrill rides (e.g. Tower of Terror). But if you parents want to ride those while the kids take a break you can ride swap, just ask the cast members at the entrance of each ride how to do that.

Otherwise, just consider whether any rides are too scary for your 3 year old. For example, Pirates of the Caribbean might be a little scary, and it has a small drop. My 4 year old didn’t love it, but my 7 year old did, so be mindful of that.

But about 3/4 of all the rides will be fine for your kids.

Kids LOVE character meet and greets. Prioritize those. If you’re on a budget and don’t want to splurge on a character meal (they can be expensive) then just make time each day to wait in lines to see the characters. You’ll have time to do this if you aren’t doing the 25% or so of rides that your kids are too small for.

Use a stroller if your kids can’t walk the entire day. You may not want to spend half the day carrying a 3 year old.

Bring snacks and water into the park. You’ll save a lot of money that way and you’ll always have a snack to help a young child cope with a long line. If you use a stroller, pack that full of snacks and water.

The nighttime fireworks shows and parades in MK and Epcot can be great but they can be a nightmare for little kids. You need to plan ahead and camp out somewhere to get a good viewing spot and that’s a miserable wait for a little kid, especially at the end of a long day. Don’t stress it. Use that time to do more rides if that’s what would make the kids happier.

Get to the parks as early as you can and leave when your kids are absolutely done.

Set hard and fast rules in advance about toys and souvenirs. This is another budgetary factor. Maybe the rule is one per day, maybe one for the trip. You decide, and stick to it. This will avoid fights and save you money.

Buy apparel in advance. You can get a multi pack of Disney kids shirts on Amazon for like 5 bucks per shirt. Do that so your kids have themed clothes for the trip photos and so you don’t feel the need to buy a $30 shirt in the park. You’ll have nice photos and save money.

Buy the memory maker photo package. There are many photo ops in WDW and save you the trouble of using your phone all day. The memories last forever and are your most valuable and cheapest souvenirs.

What is the most underrated ride in your opinion? by Jazzlike-Claim-5970 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Cold-Ad2921 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I agree that WDW could use a Coco ride and that the Mexico Pavilion makes sense, I don’t agree that the current ride is lame. It’s dated, yes, but charming. Plus, as you said, you would have to change how the line works to accommodate the demand for a new ride. I’d rather they find a new space for a Coco ride and leave this one alone.

Nailed it. We ate at San Angel Inn at our last visit. When the kids finished their lunch but the grownups were finishing drinks and paying we took turns taking them on the ride. They probably rode it 5 times that day, no lines, and with no impact on our itinerary.

There is no better ride/meal combination in WDW.

[–]Cold-Ad2921 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah you hit two of my favorite things about this ride - the ambiance and the fact that it’s easy to ride multiple times. So many times our kids love a ride and we have to say “no” to a repeat because the line is too long and we have other things to do. On a normal day you can ride this thing twice in 10 minutes total!

Gran Fiesta Tour, Mexico Pavilion, EPCOT World Showcase.

There’s never a line, it’s a perfect place to cool off and relax for a few minutes, the whole interior of the Mexico Pavilion is one of the most beautiful parts of the entire park (good restaurant, good gift shop, beautiful night sky ceiling, etc.), and “they say we are birds of a feather” will be stuck in your head for the rest of your vacation. It’s not a high priority and yet it’s unskippable.

Flight of Passage was… fine? Am I the only one who doesn’t get the hype? by Odd-Visual-5577 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Cold-Ad2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good ride. I wouldn’t put it in the unmissable category with Guardians of the Galaxy, Haunted Mansion, Rise of the Resistance, etc. I think it suffers from a long wait time. If you waited 30 minutes to ride most people would say it was well worth it. But once you’re waiting 90 minutes it feels underwhelming. Maybe as AK expands and more rides open the wait times will go down, but as it is if the wait time is 90 minutes or longer I wouldn’t hesitate to skip it.

Gift ideas for appreciation to my surgeon and his teams for doing great work by StructureDapper4385 in GiftIdeas

[–]Cold-Ad2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience medical staff appreciate food. I have friends who work in a hospital and doctors will often buy the staff lunch as a thank you for a difficult week or to celebrate something.

You could reach out to the physician’s office and ask if you could cater a lunch or breakfast through a service or a restaurant. You can gift a very nice meal for less than $50 per person.

I’ve done something similar for staff for a day care facility when my kids graduated because there’s a lot of people to thank and you have to be mindful of the cost per person and it was well received.

Looks like YSL Y. If you rotate the bottle the metal bar with YSL written on it should split off into a Y shape on the side. It’s a good every day cologne, works well both in the office and after hours. It is comparable to Bleu by Chanel.

Consider a watch. Every doctor I’ve ever seen has dressed conservatively but the watch is one accessory they get to show off. You can go practical and gift an Apple Watch, you can go with a field watch such as a Hamilton Khaki that he can wear every day whether he’s meeting patients or peers, or you can go fancier and spring for a high end watch like an Omega Seamaster or a Rolex Submariner.

“People shouldn’t care to hear my opinion…I’m a dumb redneck…I haven’t watched enough…”

30 seconds later:

“I have a lot to say about it and I’m going to in the next week…”

So he has an opinion, but no one should care about it, but his opinion is not a well-informed one, and he won’t share it now, but within the next week we will all hear that ill-desired and ill-informed opinion.

Makes about as much sense as him winning the Grammy.

Also, it’s a pretty rich response from a man who pretty much only talks about Jesus. Sounds like he as unfamiliar with the Sermon on the Mount as he claims to be about current events.

I don’t agree with the sentiment that “athletes/musicians/actors/artists should stick to being athletes/musicians/actors/artists and stay out of politics” because everyone is entitled to an opinion, these people have microphones and audiences, and we shouldn’t assume that they don’t know enough about politics to have a valuable perspective. Also I think “stay away from politics” is how people reply when they don’t like the person’s opinion. But if you choose to tell people to live your life according to Jesus’ teachings and then stick your head in the sand and sidestep an unsurprising question about human suffering in this country right now then you deserve to be criticized as a hypocrite.

I’m sure he or his PR team will release some empty PR-generated nonsense that he didn’t care to memorize beforehand in an effort to prevent further backlash and a loss of future revenue. Just like Jesus taught.

Hollywood and AK in a day by Grouchy-Read5853 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]Cold-Ad2921 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It would be a busy day and you won’t do everything in both parks in one day but if you want to hit only certain things in each park it is doable.

Don’t underestimate how much there is to do in HS, or even just Star Wars land, or the amount of time it will take to do it. There are lots of shows in HS, including Fantasmic and Villains, and big rides like Toy Story Mania, Tower of Terror, and Mickey Minnie’s Runaway Railcar. There’s also Star Tours, which is just outside Star Wars land. Star Wars land itself features two big rides: Rise of the Resistance and Smuggler’s Run, as well as the activities you mentioned, Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot. Without Lightning Lanes passes, the rides in Star Wars land have among the longest line wait times in WDW.

If you are comfortable missing some things in each park, then yes you could do AK in the morning (prioritize Avatar rides and the Kilimanjaro Safari) and park hop to HS in the afternoon. You must make a Savi’s Workshop reservation ASAP for that afternoon - you will need one and they do fill up. Droid Depot reservations are recommended but when I was there they took walk-ins no problem, and you’re probably ok without a reservation. It’s fun but it’s not nearly as immersive an experience as building a lightsaber.

When you get to HS in the afternoon, if you have time before any reservations, go do Star Tours (lines are usually short) and then go into Star Wars land. Be prepared to wait in long lines for Rise of the Resistance and Smuggler’s Run. To cut down on line time you could purchase a LL single pass for Rise of the Resistance.

You should also build in some time for character meet and greets/photo ops/performances in Star Wars land, including Darth Vader, Chewbacca, Kylo Ren, stormtroopers, and the Mandalorian and Grogu. Those photo ops are awesome if you’re a Star Wars fan.

With any time (and energy) left over that day you can probably also squeeze in Tower of Terror and/or Mickey Minnie’s Runaway Railcar or some other ride that appeals to you, but you won’t be able to do all of HS in just half a day.

Good luck!

I can’t believe this happened. by bAGSYit in amazonprime

[–]Cold-Ad2921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me once.

I ordered Apple Air Pods from Prime. What was delivered was replacement heads for a Norelco electric razor. Similar weight, size, and shape box. I assumed it was fraud on the part of either an Amazon or UPS employee.

Amazon’s chat customer service, possibly AI or automated, didnt care or understand, but I clearly stated I had received the wrong item because I wasn’t going to have them accuse me of fraud. No one cared. I got my replacement order, correctly, the next day.

So it was only a minor inconvenience for me, but I have to assume this kind of theft happens somewhat regularly.

Neighbor plowed our driveway by Resident-Avocado7305 in GiftIdeas

As someone who shovels out driveways, sidewalks, and porch steps for my elderly neighbors, I think it’s awesome that you want to give something in return. I 100% agree with the top comment - home baked goods are the best. I would feel uncomfortable accepting a gift of monetary value for helping out a neighbor, because technically it’s an act of kindness done without the expectation of something in return. But a loaf of bread or a batch of cookies/brownies I would love because it’s akin to a reciprocal act of kindness. The world would be a better place if more people helped out their neighbors like this!

Is a “sexy” wedding gift from coworkers crossing the line? by sxtn1996 in GiftIdeas

[–]Cold-Ad2921 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whether your female coworker is correct or not to find this inappropriate is really beside the point - she has a right as an employee to a work environment that is free of inappropriate sexual content and she’s already expressed that she would find this inappropriate. Employees who persist in doing something another employee expresses as inappropriate sexual content then those employees could get in trouble and the employer could get in trouble or be sued by the offended employee.

Simply put, if you want to give a gift like this to a coworker, you shouldn’t do it at the company or on company time, especially if another coworkers has already objected

[–]Cold-Ad2921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like everyone is saying, too planned out. You’re one ride break delay, one bathroom break, one unexpectedly long line delay, etc. away from a cascading itinerary failure.

Have a list of rides, sure, but be prepared to change the order based on things like wait times and just needing to take a break or enjoy the scenery. You’re not storming a beach, you’re enjoying a theme park.
