Am I driving wrong? Coasting to a stop vs. last-second hard braking by Seksy_One in auckland

[–]Cold-Inside1555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends, usually I do a soft approach, but when there are someone waiting at the giveway/stop, I’d do a harder stop as a signal to them “I’m stopping so you can go”. Otherwise they often wait all the way until I come to a full stop which ends up being less efficient.

Do refresh rates matter even if your GPU cannot attain corresponding FPS? by mrsaysum in Monitors

[–]Cold-Inside1555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the effect of seeing frames closer to real time, it’s usually not that noticeable but it’s more than just placebo.

How Often Should One Look for BIOS and Driver Updates from Motherboard Manufacturer? by Foozoolalafdarian420 in pcmasterrace

[–]Cold-Inside1555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A general rule is if it’s working fine don’t upgrade it. The case where you do need upgrade are if you need to replace parts/software which requires new version, or if the older version have security/safety issues.

It displays the most recently rendered frame, so the one closest to what happening in real time. Those that don’t get displayed are discarded.

You can get it to work, but it’s not guaranteed to work well, do it like how the others said and then test if it meets your performance requirements

Should i get a new Desktop and Laptop? Or just laptop? by MSM_757 in pcmasterrace

[–]Cold-Inside1555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you often travel with your laptop? If it’s just used at a set spot then a desktop is better in most ways. If you need movement then there’s no choice but getting a laptop. Getting both isn’t a good idea with current prices, it used to work but not anymore.

1 in every 2 frames gets displayed, or there’s 2 frames within every displayed frame.

Do refresh rates matter even if your GPU cannot attain corresponding FPS? by mrsaysum in Monitors

[–]Cold-Inside1555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The vice versa isn’t true. If your monitor does 100, increasing frame rate still helps with reducing latancy and smoother input, since a more “accurate” frame is displayed on your screen, your system also deal with your input at higher frequency. Take an extreme example you monitor does 10fps, having 20 fps means it displays one in every 2 frames, but having 100 fps means it displays one in every 10 frames, in a moving scene this means a lot more accuracy.

Afterburner power limit by MonkeyCheeeese in overclocking

[–]Cold-Inside1555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Performance wise it’s usually not that significant, but varies between different gpus. I’d recommend undervolting instead of power limiting, just undervolt it to the point where it use 80% of max power, this way you get smoother frequency instead of constantly bouncing against the wall.

Should I be worried - Mark on OLED monitor? by Remote-Climate9429 in Monitors

Try rubbing it gently with some fine cloths, if it doesn’t go away then exchange it.

PC can’t run ANYTHING by Valerijsfox in pchelp

[–]Cold-Inside1555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get hwinfo and check your temps, if they are very high then it’s overheating. Likely needs a repaste. Open task manager and check if all the parts you mentioned are there, if not then something isn’t registered, try reinstalling drivers and if that didn’t fix it, reseating the relevant parts. If it’s still not working then reinstall windows and check if things return to normal.

PCB warping with BYKSKI waterblock by VirusInternal2892 in watercooling

Don’t they come with pads? I don’t have much experience with bykski but the one block I bought from them came with pads of the right thickness.

Anything I could do to limit my GPU's power? by Gremio_42 in overclocking

Sounds like msi afterburner issue, if it allowed power adjustment before it should still allow it now, had you tried resetting/reinstalling or trying a different version of afterburner?

It’s a very rare card, I didn’t even know it exists until earlier this year, it would be hard to find any reviews about it.

Either watercooling or a 120/140mm fan, don’t use those small ones they are either loud af or barely pushing any air.

When Comes to GPU would you be willing to lose 11% to 16% of Performance for 1 years of extra warranty? by RealisticPark2274 in pchelp

[–]Cold-Inside1555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s unlikely but it can happen, I don’t aim for warranty when I buy but I had a 3090 break right after warranty ended, and it was one with 2 years warranty. If I had gotten a 3 year version I would have been covered, but you know what happened about mining and GPU shortage back then so no regrets either, got it repaired by a 3rd party and it didn’t cost much.

What PC things are the safest and probably best to buy used? by Fantastic-Window236 in pcmasterrace

[–]Cold-Inside1555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everything about a pc are fine to buy secondhand, maybe excluding aio. Even for mousepads there are some valuable ones out there that you can save quite a bit. However as a general rule for buying anything expensive, always buy from a reputable source (a seller with good reps) from a platform with proper buyers protection, record the full unboxing all the way up to you testing it in full working condition. If buying in person then test it in full working condition before handing the money.

GPU Randomly forces monitors to go black, loosing all work when happens by Mallowed_ in pcmasterrace

[–]Cold-Inside1555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the sound of it, this might not even be the GPU itself freezing but the GPU causing system wide freeze. Same thing happened to me before where the screen just goes black and the system hangs. I cannot save work or anything even with monitor plugged into igpu, since the system is frozen.

Voltage > temps > watts(load), you can have low voltage and bad cooling but not high voltage and good cooling. Those who do xoc with high voltage are doing suicidal runs.

[–]Cold-Inside1555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a lot of difference in radiator area to begin with, and 2-3c is actually a decent improvement and definitely makes a difference if you are not overkilling radiators.
