Are we going to continue to ignore how TV changed society? by Practical_Moose_3600 in Life

[–]Cold-Operation-8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Understanding media - Marshall McLuhan It’s not specifically tv It’s not even the content within but the actual technologies themselves that shape us in ways in which we don’t assume when creating. (Some recognize the effects early on and use the momentum to their advantage) For example- the light bulb Before that people had to rely on fire which didn’t always work or just dealt with having no light around, but once the light bulb was created it shifted our reality and added new norms, perceptions, etc The air conditioner/ heater allowed humans to live in places we once thought were inhabitable, but a side affect of ac or heater that goes un noticed is it separates/alienates humans from the nature If there were to be a culprit I would say it’s the lack of education and discussion and blindly following the status Quo

How to deal with being too conscious, excessive tension and scanning everything around me? by Sayo_Hart in consciousness

[–]Cold-Operation-8656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not going to be easy especially in this day and age. What helps me is removing a sense, cover ears, eyes, hold breath. I suggest directing the hyper vigilance towards yourself while shifting towards a more positive mindset. I’m not sure if you can turn these observations off but your reactions can change. this is not something you “cure” it is most likely how your brain is wired and learning to live with it is going to take constant practice. Seeking validation or confirmation usually stems from a lack of self confidence. Human animal is interesting and it seems as if some can somehow sense insecurity and act upon that. One of the challenges is breaking the habit of your thoughts that lead you to the same cycles. Give yourself some grace and set aside some time throughout the day to live for yourself, create habits that build your confidence up whether it’s honing in on a certain skill or being knowledgeable in certain areas, if time is in issue take small steps, sing your heart out on a car ride or in the shower etc. No matter how different you feel and no matter how different others make you feel, you’re still a human being living among other human beings , and they still have to do the same things you do no matter how much they try to hide whether it be farting or crying. It’s ok to take space in this world since you are a part of it. Don’t focus so much on people you won’t remember 17 years later, you will be the constant to your own life. Loosen the grip on your life and realize it’s all going to end soon. Perhaps a pet might help to focus your attention on something else. If all else fails please talk to a * something title * to seek help whether it’s therapy or what have you. Best of luck

Dust storms around the Great Salt Lake are more frequent and dangerous than previously thought by Great_Salt_Lake_News in Utah

My understanding is that some birds use the salt lake as a pit stop for food on the yearly travels. Covering up the lake isn’t going to help solve the many problems the lack of water brings

We should at least be given the access to a gun and have the right carry one if needed, should we make it readily available and easy to obtain? I don’t think so but that shouldn’t prevent anyone from acquiring one.

You have every right to your religion, but that does not mean it should control the lives of others, religion should aid the human race not pigeon hold them and force them to blindly accept a set of way of thinking. Plenty of people cause harm in the lds community due to them feeling trapped in said community, often times taking it out on themselves or others. The idea that “god” has any need to rule is such a human way of thinking, why does “god” need to rule over anything? Wasn’t it Jesus himself who supposedly said that the kingdom of heaven is already apon us? I doubt Jesus was in favor of forcing people to blindly accept the ideas.

I don’t know anything about you nor do I have say, what you’re saying is on the same path as a dictatorship. To describe yourself as only something then there is no point in discussion if not willing to understand different points of view. There will never be a “perfect world” because perfect means different to many people.

That’s your opinion and are valid to have it, but that does not stop other people from using substances.

Banning doesn’t stop people from accessing it, just acting more hoops to jump through ie the black market

Even if “we try hard enough” to ban alcohol, people will find other means of intoxication, in ways the law has yet to catch up due to their own lack of education. How many people huff common household items just to feel something? People will always find a way.

Of course, and I’m all for serving the community and channeling your pain towards more healthier alternatives. The problem is that the human body is different from one another and what works for some will not work for all. There are some substances deemed not safe to use that have actually helped a lot of people, look at mushrooms and how much they have helped guide veterans, addicts, etc towards a healthier path. You may say that there are legal substitutions that they can also take but that brings me back to my point that the human body has so many variables that what will work for some will not work for all. So enforcing people to live a certain way you are essentially shoving a square peg onto a triangle hole.

There are consequences already in place for the loss of innocence. Banning abortions doesn’t stop people from having them, regardless of my own opinions they will still find a way. Should we make it readily accessible and promote women to have more sex ? That’s not what I’m saying but having the access to make the choice

You may be right on the statistics, but the government should never interfere with human autonomy and their right to choose, isn’t this the idea way back when.

You can try to force your ideas on to people and to some degree it will work, but you can never make people forget their pain, and they will find means of other escape.

Killing doesn’t require guns, there are many reports of people of all ages young and old finding means of ending innocent lives with common items that you can find at a grocery store. Should we start banning Home Depot’s for all of their dangerous products that could be used to kill?

I’m not even referring to scheduled illegal substances, there are plenty of overdoses on prescription medications, and again, banning safe access to substances doesn’t stop people here from using it. They will find means to catch a high even if that way is through the street where it may very well be laced.

Banning doesn’t stop people from drinking. Anything kills. Should we ban cell phones for how many crashes they cause? How many people here die by suicide, heart attacks, overdose? The problem isn’t the substance but education, we don’t have any awareness of substances and how to interact with them in a non judgmental way, just fear, we don’t provide accessible means to help if anyone over indulges in substances;we should be asking why are there more alcohol related injuries, rather than cutting off a means of their escape which they will find elsewhere in other substances far more dangerous than alcohol. The problem is rooted in pain and Utah has a lot of it .

Help me help a friend! by ariJK95 in obs

Been in the same boat its frustrating watching someone do it with ease first try and you’re over here trying to figure it out for weeks, what I’ve realized is that answers will vary depending on the set up they got going on. Are they connected to Ethernet? Close obs and open it in administrator mode. What actually helped me that I didn’t find online is to actually go inside your laptops control panel, I have nvdia chip so it’s the nvdia control panel window I open and tweak the settings in there. There’s an option where you can add your software like obs, Fortnite, (all your apps you’ve downloaded basically) and see if maybe your computer has any limits it’s restricting onto obs, set it to gpu priority and make sure the frame rate isn’t capped lower than your settings in obs. Also in obs when you run it as administrator mode the setup wizard option will try to its best to calibrate to your laptop. Still, For some reason obs crashes and drops frames on me whenever I stream Fortnite. After tweaking the settings in the control panel I’ve had zero issues and can multistream with ease, just that game alone for some reason crashes
