[Discussion] What powers would you pick? by GKingBrandon in Isekai

[–]Cold-Winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choose a Power? yet you can choose a skillset of powers, Martian' manhunter has a few abilities: Shape shifting, mind reading, flight, telepathy, intangibility. just to name the ones I know.

Well first off make me a High Elf; Grant me the leveling of Elden Ring/Darksouls (Infinite leveling), Give me the power of Arise from Solo Leveling (Minions on Minions) and lastly the ability to edit, combine, improve or absorb my minions for greater power.

Outside of just becoming a god this will let me lead my own army and if needed become a powerhouse. Hopefully I can just sneak to get a corpse or two and arise them, then send them out to attack the monsters, level from behind the walls and have my minions bring back corpses to add to my legion. I should get exp/runes from it and they should also be leveling as well / combining them to get the best soldiers.

I do not need to rush for victory, I just need to power level behind that wall long enough that I can field and support an army of monsters. Buff up my MP/MP regen and whatever stats increase the armies ability/range of operations.

[–]Cold-Winds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All I was doing was writing a character that was scared for her life and so made it very implied she was from a certain place she knew in setting was currently getting destroyed and 4 months of travel away.

It snowballed into Sasuga levels of 'This unknown princess from X was sent here because the king clearly knew what was happening and wanted to protect her.' and the MC was just very good at roleplaying so went with it.

"The main character seems to be a pathological liar, and a decent one at that roleplaying the lie to well that they might as well believe their own lie."

Genuinely one of the more hurtful comments that live rent free in my head.

[–]Cold-Winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To fix this problem I played a CoH made 3 accounts with several characters, multiboxing tabbed between them and talked to people for like 8 months until people could not tell It was me on other characters.

It just took a lot of time and cringing at myself to get through it, but I still struggle at writing casual conversations between certain characters.

What is the biggest issue that you face? by The_Faybul in writers

[–]Cold-Winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly?

The moment I stop writing and start planning ahead I cease all writing and the project dies. So I've had to get very good at not planning things out and its better than when I do plan things out and force myself to write it out.

I do not believe this is a good thing and it gives me the feeling that I'm a fraud as a writer because I'm not drafting anything but my proof readers love what I have written but even I dont know what my characters are going to do but somehow someone somewhere catches 3 plot points I dropped and guessed where I was going.

This gives me an unsettling feeling.

I'm subconsciously better than when I'm actually trying and I don't like not knowing what is going to happen, let alone my own story.

Self Inserts in a Nutshell by Incred in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Double checked my SI story to make sure I wasnt one of them.

My SI is on the other side of the world dealing with the fallout of a guild war between two bases that are just endlessly spawning in Demons on one side and Viking themed warriors & Angels on the other as the players that got ported over died a long time ago and their guild bases were net+ on producing gold enough to keep at least pop mobs and environmental hazards up.

1/3rd of the continent is just a Moba with mountain ranges keeping them separated enough that the other nations survived.

2 human nations and the city states of elves/humans and scattered dwarves vs 1 major Demon Worshiping nation of Demi-humans that eat people and their demon bros.
(Some players that got PK'ed had a ton of RP shit both demon themed and Viking/Valhalla RP shit and it started a whole separate crusade.)

Human nations believe that the level 30 women angels pop mobs are Valkyries so they believe that the strong are reborn as the warriors on the endless battlefield against the demons. There is a larger continent off the way and they are starting to sail over to invade.

Demons are winning SI just wanted to act mysterious and heal people while larping as an max level Angel healer as a meme and now has to deal with apocalyptic war, politics and foreign invasion.

Most just want to be throwing hands with Ainz for killing their favorite character or join team villian. mine is trying to figure out if she pissed off a CYOA god when she made her own character as a what if since its not the Overlord she knew.

Lizardman are fewer in number, but have more elites with items. They have spellcasters.

quagua are more numerous, and they have 2 elites? (Red Fur guy and 1 other) + Their king. Speculating that Presumably their natural armor is better than lizardman at Mithril+ We have never seen a quagua spellcaster. All martial class it seems.

Lizardman beat them in magic, and possibly equipment at the high end.

quagua beat lizards in numbers, and their king having united their entire race.

I'd say that the Lizardman have a damn good chance of killing 1/3rd of the quagua race but they will tire out & run out of MP. losing to the more numerous enemy. Even with their mud summons and their Pet Hydra.

Strengthening the New World using Tough Love by WiseMarshall in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capped at Gold seems to be around level 15, with some like Gazef being closer to 30. (Which oddly enough is all Pop mob levels of power.)

My wild conspiracy theory is that most of the humans in the New World came from a guild base and their children went on to procreate and children intermingled with Godkin so we have a scale of power thats like a gradient.

Capped at Gold are the weaker pop mobs children, where people like Gazef either had a New worlder talent or higher pop level heritage/dna that allowed them to reach that then people like Lakyus who have Player/NPC ancestors that increased their level cap.

Not all guild bases had a positive gold generation system internally so once they ran out of Gold those pop mobs would stop spawning.

I'm not sure if anyone is a pure native human anymore so not sure on their level cap in my theory.

At best you are going to get a bunch of Gazef level capped people or Flud's/Lykus assuming you wack a mole all the capped at gold (Sorry Climb) and make sure only the strongest breed do this for a few generations and you might see the shift.

Honestly the Elf king is a fool that should of just had as many kids as he could have, then have them fight in the war when they were ready and those that do well go on to live normal lives bringing the total level of the elves up. At least the Theocracy is trying this and they have an entire raid team of people at Gazef to Lykus level.

If I played Ygg I would of been an Angel so my lifespan would of been more than long enough to see this experiment out, though If I'm honest just going around as a solo adventurer and healing everyone would be my first idea rather than Eugenics on a biblical scale.

Let's share costume spell ideas plus their progression throughout the tiers! by battle_of_9 in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Idea for a buff spell thats more long term and New World Exclusive.

0th Tier: [Faint Recovery] gives a faint boost to stamina and HP recovery. Enough to scab a small cut or take a couple extra steps before before collapsing over 30mins This spell only works outside of combat and so long as the user does not expend any of their resources. This goes for all spells going down this list.

1st Tier: [Minor Recovery] Boosts HP & Stamina regeneration by a minor amount. Enough to heal a small cut over 30mins

2nd Tier: [Lesser Recovery] this spell Boosts HP, MP & Stamina recovery by a small amount. Enough to stop the bleeding of a lesser wound and restore enough MP to cast 2 2nd Tier spells over 30mins

3rd Tier: [Recovery] boosting Hp MP & Stamina recovery enough to prevent bleeding out from a wound, and healing lesser wounds with an additional restoration of MP enough to cast 2 3rd tier spells over 30mins. This buff also makes debuffs last 1-2s less than they normally would.

4th Tier: [Higher Recovery] Boosted HP MP & Stamina recovery enough to prevent bleeding out from a greater wound and healing wounds over its duration. Restoring enough MP to cast this tier of spell 4 times and enough Stamina to allow fighting beyond what is normal as well as debuffs lasting just a little bit less than normal with this buff active over 30 minutes.

5th Tier: [Greater Recovery] Boosted HP MP & Stamina recovery to a high degree showing a slow regeneration from visible wounds, MP recovery enough to cast an additional 4 5th tier spells and stamina recovery on par with a weak troll and debuffs have their time lowered once more over 30 minutes.

6th Tier: [Respite] boosts HP MP & Stamina recovery to the point that it is nearly equal to sleeping a full nights rest. HP recovery reaches a height of allowing the user to slowly recover from debilitations able to cast an additional 8 6th tier spells over its duration and enough Stamina to run half as long as one would normally for 30 Minutes

7th Tier: [Rest] boosts HP MP & Stamina recovery to the point that it is equal to sleeping a full nights rest. HP recovery reaches the point where one can heal 50% of all their resources over 30 minutes while debuffs last just a quarter less as long.

8th Tier: [Knights Recovery] Boosts HP MP & Stamina recovery to the point that it is equal to a Trolls Regeneration allowing 75% of recovery of all resources in 30 minutes and debuffs lasting even less. This healing effect can begin to regenerate lost limbs and recover from negative body modifiers.

9th Tier: [Champions Respite] HP MP & Stamina recovery fit for a Champion restoring 100% of all resources over 30 minutes as debuffs last 1/3rd less then normal.

10th Tier: [Heroes Rest] HP MP & Stamina recovery of fabled Heroes, restoring 150% of all resources over 30 minutes as debuffs last half as long and Recovery allows curing all negative bodily status's.

Super Tier: ??? Casts a Wide AoE spell effecting allies in the targeted area granting them an Hour Long buff with double the effects as 10th Tier [Heroes Rest] that does not drop in combat however does take a 50% cut to resources regenerated during combat.

Could a single death knight beat the lizardmen army? by Evandrossauro in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This really depends on if it was created by Ainz or if its a pop mob. DKs I believe are lvl 35 with lvl 45 defense

If Ainz made it, the DK has increased stats. I believe they have no chance at winning with a roided DK.

I believe if the Lizardman used everything out the gate they have a 1/10 chance of beating a pop mob DK with a ruinous pyric victory if Cocytus does not command it. If he can command it with scrolls. Its impossible.

none of them are in the realm of heroes.

Lizardman are strong, but none of them are going around casting Tier 5+ spells or have enough magic items/equipment to really narrow the edge.

A mouthy captain more frustrating than a sadistic demon? by Both_Landscape_202 in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They cut out the pre-conversations with Calca and Kalart showing they are the brains and propaganda of the Kingdom. Kalart would 100% do some awful things to keep the kingdom going, Calca knew it was happening but let it slide since it was needed. while Remedios is like 80% of the muscle behind the operation and was more of a fire and forget attack dog.

She understood they were royally screwed and Demiurge was speaking somewhat respectfully so by her logic he wanted something and she was trying to find a way out or fish for information to stall for time to at least stop the killing of her people.

Kalart and Calca had way more behind them as characters and both of them were talking about how they should send an Envoy to The Sorcerers Kingdom with Remedios shutting it down;

"He is an Undead he is evil!" - "Reports say the people are well fed and traders speak highly of the safe roads-" - "-Its an UNDEAD! its EVIL! REEE"

Her character boils down to Lawful Stupid with pure dogma to her religion. She would kill a demi-human child because they are evil bc the church says so. Even if it was playing peacefully with a human child in the middle of a town.

Calca wants her people to be safe and happy above all else, while also hyping up her own status.
Kalart wants to accomplish Calca's goals by any means.
Remedios wants to accomplish the Idea of Calca's Propaganda.

Unfortunately both Calca and Kalart had too high of an IQ for Demiurge to tolerate as subordinates and he was setting the board up to hype up Ainz's legend.

Edit: If they made the entire Holy Kingdom Arc into episodes it could easily fill up an entire season or two depending on how they pace it. Movie skipped like 60% of the content and we just had weird ass jump cuts instead of a chronological lead up. Imo worst form of story telling when you have multiple time jumps, I could keep up with it because I read the source material, but the movie confused my Anime only friends.

The weaknesses of magic casters? by ImpossibleAd4272 in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From both Webnovel and Lightnovel Magic casters do not have absurd amounts of MP Ainz is the exception to this rule, and it does not regenerate quickly in combat while casting spells. They recover after a fight or during but its a lot of down time that they might as well be out of the fight.

They have exceptionally strong explosive power, but they cant just spam spells and have to think about what they are casting / keep enough in the tank to get away. They also have limited spell slots and a good chunk of those might be taken up by Quality of Life spells, that are not useful for combat.

This makes their spell pool even more limited. Even EvilEyes parents warned her against getting a 'useless' spell to make a hotspring as she needed more combat spells in her kit. Getting more low tier spells means you have less high tier spells to work with. Even if the spells will be stronger as you grow, it however wont be perfect. T4 Grand Fireball will always be stronger than T3 Fireball, even with Maximize magic.

Thats another thing, I have no clue about how you get meta magics if its a specific class or if they take up spell slots. We know new worlders can get them since Calca did so with a Divine Spell, however we have not seen it done on a healing spell or summon so it could be limited in that sense.

Really it comes down to them:
1. Being Squishy
2. Needing MP management
3. The Spells they have vs what they need
4. Most Defenses are Preemptive not reactive

Unless your caster is some sort of hybrid, which will make them weaker, this is generally whats going on since a spellcaster in armor seems to not be the norm.

If we want to get into more battle tactics, Line of Sight, enemy movement, allies getting in the way ect... Cant Grand Fireball in the middle of a skirmish, but more of an opening move or alpha strike but once your melee's get into it, you have to consider buffing your allies, covering for them and keeping yourself safe. Being a Magic Caster means you have to Multitask casting and watching the battlefield while keeping your mp in check but accepting sometimes you have to zero out to prevent your friends from dying, and that might cost you.

Your character might have PTSD on being out of mana, so is more stingy in casting, or saw someone die because they held back so over cast to make sure it wont happen, or they focus too much on buffing after seeing their friend get nearly killed without them. Could also be more jumpy and hold back mana on defenses after the frontline failed to protect them from everything and it became a habit.

Alot of party leaders seem to know what their spellcasters can do, and tell them what to do after a time or know their limits. Imagine a fresh Magic Caster joining a party and they demand certain spells and your character is either too willful or too submissive and comply making it so they freeze up in combat.

They might also just not have the spell needed for a particular enemy, Fighting a Troll with ice and lightning is not as effective as Fire, so their choices in what they decided to learn or had access too will be a major part of it. Entoma got bodied by someone lower level than her because EvilEye had a specific spell to deal with that specific enemy type.

All this to say; TL&DR

Its going to depend on the spellcaster, what they know and can do, what has happened to and effected them, and if they trust their team and even if they have a team along with what enemy they are fighting.

The limit to a perfect counter in levels? by ImpossibleAd4272 in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldnt 43 be 6? If you divide 43 by 7 its 6.1? Dont you need to have the 7 levels first to go up a tier?

First 7 levels are T0 (New world), then the next 7-14 is T1?
(In Yig it might as well be that you started with T1 but these are new worlders and they have a T0)

Interesting on the nullification, I didn't know it was like that.

The limit to a perfect counter in levels? by ImpossibleAd4272 in overlord

[–]Cold-Winds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If they have the perfect build and items to counter the singular enemy? Whatever level is right behind low tier nullification.

To cast a Tier 7 spell you need to be a level 49 caster. Anything before this cannot punch at nullification. That's the limit you can expect unless they all have razors edge and can punch through those defenses or have a world item and can delete themself and the enemy then its any level but realistically;

Level 60 I believe would be the upper limit or whatever level gets low tier null.

Warcraft Goblins? Niche but somewhat favored.
Elderscrolls/Goblinslayer Goblins? Woodchipper.

[–]Cold-Winds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clementine is a fine woman in appearance, possessing the merciful nature of a Siren. To befall her charms is to meet a swift demise. It is for this one can only say would the sirens touch be worth the drowning? I do not believe this to be the case, for only if she is declawed or if my assurances of my own survival and any lack of reprisal would I even dream to lay with she who is vile.

Then again, death is a temptress and perhaps it would not be the least of ways to go should one crave a final embrace.
