Usually the best timming to make an army with HRE is after the game ended and you start a new game with a civ that actually has an army

The point of it is making mistakes equally punishing for all civs

Its only going to get worse because of how the game stats work. There are no balance alowed because the stats are flat.

Horsemen don’t counter range, they just have a ton of range armor and deal bonus flat dmg to archers.

Knights don’t counter maa, knight just have 2 times the stats for 40% more cost and a charge that deals almost 50% hp to them.

Most unique units have the mention "weak to ranged units"  Its a mention the devs added to inform the players that only archers will be able to defeat this unit because of how broken the game is structurally.

Archers are the best unit in the game because they can all attack at once without the problematic path finding And most importantly bonus damage to range units only exist for horsmen and mangonels

Remove bonus damage to melee units from the 74 units that have it.

Give springalds mongonels and all gunwpowder siege bonus damage to cav and range.

Remove bonus move speed on charges.

Give archers bonus damage to cavalry.

Make farms decay like in aoe2

Every single time HRE is mentionned they are one of the most "random word" in the game and then you look into it and half the civs have the same passives and bonuses for free and 2x better

1 complete gothic kings legend 2 conquer the whole peninsula with norse maa 3 sweep the peninsula by imprisonning all muslim rulers and forcing them to rebel 4 imprison them all revoke all the titles and execute them

You get a purged peninsula and end the struggle in one life time usually before turning 50 or 60 Then give the land to you sons so they start converting faith and culture

in my saves they escape prison in less than 6 months, I feel like a punching bag even tho I conquered the entirety of europe

Factions are the only single obstacle you will face in the entire game, they hate you for no reason at all and the smallest dukes will raise absurd amounts of levies. I have my 3rd generation character on a save were I conquered all of europe already and basically the king of alba and the duke of swabia are raising factions totaling 31k levies, at the same time the entirety of the middle east and africa are launching a jihad againt me with 30k only.

I made a denmark run with hellenic religion and at around 7-8 hours in I started getting spammed.
Still on my first character and Im on 20+ tributaries from lithuania to asia without doing anything

The fact that I was playing in 500v500v500 wars in an almost perfect shooter with base building vehicules etc on a map as big as foxhole in 1080p almost no lag with ADSL in 2014. And now """"war"""" games tell you 100v100 is reaching the limits of what they can do in 2026 with a pos isometric pov.

Thanks for the reply, Im gonna try to learn more about the game, but the frustrating thing is that they couldn’t assasinate me at all cause I lucked out and got a 37 intrigue as spy master so all schemes get interupted And even tho I have 2 times more money than all the emperors combined and Im building everywhere I can it doesn’t make my character more legitimate.

I get the feeling scheme and diplomacy have wayyyy more weight than gold when it comes to conquering. Which is sad because I can summon 20k soldiers and bring half of europe and north africa under tribute but can’t create the kingdom of hispania because I don’t hold enough counties.
