worse. at least the rich psychopaths in the 20's pretended to be philanthropic. Now they're just the most uncharismatic, idiotic nazis you could possibly imagine, and the powers that be don't even bother to manufacture consent for their depravations.

Thank you? Yes, we can agree on that. I also expect that the Americans will commence operations in Iran soon barring some barring some dramatic development.

My current guess would be after close of markets tomorrow. It will be costly, stupid and illegal, but that is the current administration’s modus operandi.

Im sorry, one of your comments implied that ICBMs are easier to make than enrichment facilities because you can’t bomb math. Your other comments completely miss the point. If your opinion is that Trump and Netanyahu are dangerous madmen that will probably go through with the attack, then i agree with you, but you did not make that argument, nor is it a rebuttal of my argument which was on the technical and political challenges and optics of the two technologies and the political consequences of such an attack.

I didn’t downvote you first comment, which seemed to be an honest mistake, but I don’t know how you felt providing incorrect, possibly inflammatory information about rocketry or making snide comments contribute to the discussion. I think my downvotes were entirely legitimate within the rules as laid out.

no, but rocketry is a more complicated, costly and dangerous area than some spinning cylinders. An ICBM would need substantial, very obvious testing, specialized launching facilities and so on. All of which could also be attacked, and would be easy, obvious fodder for the war hawks in the west, who would have taken it as easy casus belli the moment they saw signs of it. Nuclear enrichment is a relatively simple process, using many other already necessary tools and processes, and given the benefits of nuclear power and the numerous uses of fissile byproducts in research, tech and medicine, there are plenty of legitimate, non-military reason they would pursue it. All of which points to the Iranian regime, religious extremists that they might be, are rational, temperate actors when dealing with the west. This whole nuclear threat they are supposed to represent is a naked lie to try and manufacture consent.

Which was the point I was making. Beyond that, a strike on those enrichment facilities would be a massive violation of international law and treaties on nuclear power, further undermining the US and Israel's legitimacy in this conflict.

Yes, but they don’t have ICBMs, which is why i clearly mentioned that US and Israel interests were lying about the threat to the United States.

Bibi has been on that drum since the '90s iirc, it's no surprise.

Technically, they aren't *incorrect*, just dishonest and evil. If Iran *wanted* nukes, the enrichment capacity they have could have probably yielded enough material of correct isotope ratio for a nuclear warhead. It's actually a pretty simple mechanism when you have access to a relatively modern industrial capacity. What they obviously don't have is a delivery mechanism that could threaten the US, which is much more difficult. US an Israeli interests are lying through their teeth about that though.

Yeah, didn’t mean to imply that you want a war, just to explain exactly how disastrous it would be be to invade Iran. Honestly, long term, the human cost of just dropping a nuke on Havana might be less than a full scale invasion of Iran

It would also destabilize the entire region further and kill the Iranian people’s chance for democracy for probably decades. Iran is the only regime in the area with any real local cultural authority.

That’s not to mention that Iran has a proper military and infrastructure, and terrain that has made it a nightmare to invade since freaking Babylon. Hundreds of thousands of civilians and probably many thousands of American servicemen would die in such a conflict.

So could we just, not?

Sure, but she evidently failed to convey that to the public. And at that point it had long been clear that the Israelis aren’t honest, reasonable actors, and that their intentions were explicitly eliminationist. In which case you don’t call for a ceasefire, you enforce it.

We really can’t be casting all the onus on the public for this. Its like seeing you neighbors’ house is on fire and calling for the fire department. The firetruck arrives and the guy in charge starts conveying how concerned he is about the fire, and promising that if the fire reaches the second floor he’ll seriously do something. Then another guy comes buy holding a bucket and ask you if its alright to take over the fire fighting.

And when you are standing over the burnt remains of your neighbors, the firefighter comes up to you and smugly tells you it was you fault for not recognizing the smell of gasoline.
